Those types of games aren't my bag but Mandalore completely sold me on Darkwood.
I remember when ImScared was just some creepy as hell ghost head chasing you around... Good times.

Really enjoying these videos on lesser known horror titles.
People who base their existence on the accurate description of why tank controls exist thank you.
I didn't know anything about "The Devil" before watching this, but the setting--cultists living in a group of enormous walking buildings--seems to have been inspired by Alstair Reynolds' sci-fi novel _Absolution Gap._ The Gnostic elements might have been inspired by the book also, but I don't really know enough about Gnosticism to be sure. For example, before forming the cult, the leader lives on a ship called _Gnostic Ascension._

White Face from Imscared actually shows up as graffiti on a wall in Lost in Vivo! I was surprised to find out they're not made by the same person for how similar they are. That game is iconic, I'm not exactly sure where it sits on the timeline of "creepypasta-esque indie horror that looks like a PS1 game", but it was the first one I learned of.

Alone in the Dark was the game that create Tank controls and fix cameras, and modern survival horror tropes.
But normally, people forget it and talk like Resident Evil invent everything.

I’m so scared of anyone reviewing soma. So many shitty reviewers missed the mark so fucking bad with that absolute masterpiece of a game. It’s a shame that Amnesia Rebirth was such a failure of design when TDD was essentially the defining piece for a genre, and spawned so many terrible imitations which didn’t understand how to create unscripted intensity. I think Soma has been covered by so many people that there isnt a ton more to say about it, aside from delving through the supersecret folder contents.
Well, dunno if it due to game mechanic reason, but the Lifter is the only one who carry a flashlight, lighting up his way while the rest of the cultish live in the spire in darkness. So maybe they are living in ignorance and the Lifter who is an outsider is the one seeing the truth?
Another room you didn't mention was the "Office" room where you find the gun with one bullet. Apparently the room might be the higher up who might be controlling the Spire, also gun with one bullet probably someone plan to commit suicide. This room is for some reason the only room that is "Calm" and safe
also there's an infinite health cheat that i found on accident. . .
When I played, I found 62 bullets, but I did not find the gun...so I had to run

The Devil is beautiful! I really dig how passionate you are about them games and them hips. Also, try Yuppie Psycho one day, I think you might like its occult setting and clever commentary.

I just want to say thank you for telling me to play the game first before watching the review it was great it also legitimately helped me get over my crippling fear of horror games which has prevented me from truly experiencing these kind of games for years
"religion/history lies to you" is one of the main plot points of Mistborn, which I recommend to anyone. You can feel that something is off with the mythos, but you can't quite pinpoint it.
The sound design is one of the best things about The Devil.
It would be cool to see you try and break into Dwarf Fortress

If we had to pay for this game I’d say $15-$20 is a fair price for what you get.

Couldn't stand this game, got to the post-swamp part of the game and the "gun jammed" section. I tried dodging as many enemies as I can but between the painfully bad camera, the complete inability to see anything that's happening, and your character's natural tendency to be blocked by even the slightest enemy, I'd invariably become trapped, try to shoot, get my gun jammed, and die. Yes, I know you have to go to the workbench. No, I'm not giving it another shot, I wasted half an hour doing the same section over and over again. I wasn't even remotely scared at any point, only frustrated.

My biggest gripe with RE3 remake is how the game shoots it's load just as you start playing, few modern games do build up correctly if at all, Alien Isolation is another perfect example of build up done right, and Cry of Fear if you ignore the section with the camera.
Also review Cry of Fear pls, I need you to validate my opinion.
Game pillarboxes in 1920x1080 and the dev says he has no play to fix it... so its unplayable to anyone on widescreen.

@@ProbablyJacob thats bizarre...I contacted the dev and he told me theres no way to play on widescreen. Did you change any settings at all? I tried looking around for a config file or something but no luck :(

Just gonna say this... I really feel like you dug to far into things in the devil. I see a broken workbench and think "oh a broken workbench". In no way I would ever think "oh my weapon sucks and might break so I should prepare for bad weapon go breaky". I think in reality you played a scary game and overthought things in it. Still good info on the game, just felt very well you know, scripted
In the context of a survival horror game, in which your gun can jam as well, I think it's not really reaching too far to come to that conclusion.
@@kurtusky13 but from the explanation from the video he hadnt used the gun a single time to know if it could jam. Comparable survival horror like classic resident evil didnt even have weapon jams. I personally feel it was a bit of a reach in logic if you hadnt used it to know it does. Its like the first time i played Silent hill. I used my melee weapons like crazy than it broke. I didnt expect it to break leaving me completely defenseless. Now knowing they can i treat them as precious
