That "Thriller"-performance was pure gold. Holy shit.
He can move pretty good, but once he starts singing? Hooo, boy.
Useless trivia: @ 4:08 Billy's audtion piece is from the Joe Orton play "The Ruffian On The Stair". He line is one of the title character's.
I would honestly pay cold, hard cash to get Star Quality on DVD. Pure comedy gold.
Unfortunately, I would say Brandreth and possibly some of the contestants have already paid cash to make sure that never happens.
I think 'Beverly' was Beverly Isherwood, 'Miss England' 1978 winner. She was also the first assistant on Countdown.
OOOH THESPIAN BILLY
It was just an....a THEATRICUL GESTJAH.
Ive never stopped thinking about thespian billy since
Lol
Oh my gosh! Such an oblique reference to the game Rise of the Robots, I love it.
The thriller guy was actually a good dancer. I guess they couldn’t get the rights to the song. So brilliant!
That rendition of Thriller is one of the most painful things I've ever watched...
...and I watched Transformers 3.
I remember watching 'Star Quality'! Not HTV's finest production, but at least they tried something different from the conventional 'talent' shows! About the same time, they had some success with a music-based quiz called 'Keynotes', and of course they'd done 'Three Little Words', and 'Mr & Mrs' in the 70s (presented by Alan Taylor, alternating with Border TV's version with Derek Batey).
I read earlier on Wikipedia that Gyles Brandreth had done a programme on LBC Radio of the same title, so it seems to me that perhaps he pitched the idea to a number of TV companies, but only HTV West took him up on it.
part 2 is blocked on copyright grounds, but parts 1 & 3 -- they're up for grabs?

gyles brandreth sounds like john sessions doing his alan rickman impersonation
Dongers? Haven't heard that in a while, I'll take it!
at 4:00, the guy sounds exactly like Steve Pemberton in The League of Gentlemen playing Edward or one of those characters
Gyles Brandreth must be the inspiration for Stewie Griffin from _Family Guy!_
"Ansel, who can see through time"

2:51-3. The answer is cocaine. Lots of cocaine.
Billy Brightman is still a better actor than Tommy Wiseau.
It's close, though.
