the camerawork -- the nightvision and the jerky too-fast movements of the camera -- are horror movie perfection. The reveal of how long those lines are, and then it keeps revealing, and keeps revealing, and oh god the camera's moving FAST, that must mean that these are even LONGER, launches this thing into monster history. I refuse to call them tentacles, how the hell would they move to feed the thing if something got caught at the edge of its reach? Would I even want to know? the answer tends to flip depending on my mood.

"The most peculiar structure is that of the arms," said deep-sea biologist Bruce Robison of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California.
Referring to the way the tentacles hang down from elbow-like kinks, Robison said: "Judging from that structure, we think the animal feeds by dragging its arms and the ends of its tentacles along the seafloor as it drifts slowly above it."
      ...
But NOAA's Vecchione suggests a feeding behavior that is more like trapping than hunting. He speculates that Magnapinna passively waits for prey to bump into the sticky appendages.

Scientists don't know much. Don't think one has been washed ashore to study there's only been brief encounters in deep oceans. They are called magnapinna squid or (bigfin squid) wiki still says their tentacles can grow to about 26 feet long and the deepest they've been found is 4000 feet though this video disproves both those statements. This video is taken at a depth of like 7000 feet and that squid is over 100 foot long. They say it's closer to 150 feet. They don't know how they feed but the tentacles have suction cups on them so they guess that little fish and things get caught in the suction of the hanging tentacles and they feed that way. All other videos you'll see the squids are a lot smaller but maybe this is an elder or maybe they don't stop growing nobody really knows. People do know the reason everything is bigger the closer to the bottom you get is because large animals can process their food or nutrients better. They exert less energy etc.
