    I don't mind water sounds honestly. I used to live near a stream so maybe it's just that, but I find water sounds very relaxing. What's really grating are artificial sounds like air pumps and water pumps

    These filters and air pumps are always branded as silent technology but still make noise from the vibration

    Another tip for in tank filters is to put foam under your tank so the filter vibrations don't travel into the stand and reverberate.

    Hanging air pumps reduces noise and sometimes cleaning the propeller and shaft helps with noise reduction when doing a filter clean

    I would love to learn what type of wood you have on your AngelFish aqua. Thos big vertical logs look amazing. My goal is to have something similar in mine but i struggle to what type of safe wood can i put in it for this purpose. Can you give pointers on types of wood for this purpose ? Thanks a million

    I have the bio cube tank and theres an annoying humming! it must be worse for the fish since sound carries in the water

    Can definitely attest for off-branded canister filters making helluva noise. Love a heated Oase, but they're pretty rare and pricey down-under..

    air pumps send the noise of the pump to the tank through the air line if you make a separate manifold full of sponge it stops it

    One tip you forgot to mention on how to quiet a fish tank, Keep fish that don't jump up out the water. My platies and swordtails do this constantly even when I'm not near the tank and it can get annoying if I'm trying to fall asleep.

    • @dxjes8703
      @dxjes8703 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure you don't need a water change? Fish try to jump sometimes when the water fills up with ammonia

    • @LtexprsGaming
      @LtexprsGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dxjes8703 nope my parameters are all in check. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and nitrates 40-80 cause I have a planted tank. My fish have always loved jumping, and platies and actually known to be jumpers.

    I have my fish tank in my bedroom and I use air pump for circulation behind some plants. I have the pump on some noise cancelling foam, and connected to my light's timer.

    If you have a base cabinet with doors add foam the the inside walls of the base cabinet it will deaden the sound by absorbing them. A good double side tape will hold the up even wedging is another way with a large pice if foam and of course silicone thin to the walls and the door. You could use the course reusable green fibrous a/c filters that can be washed in water. The use of foam or filter will help to isolqte the sound with the cabinet. You could also line the floor of the cabinet with a gel mat that people use to stand on instead of hard floors to cut down vibration noises. Air pumps I found suspending them with fishing string or line helps isolate their vibration noise even a mesh potato bag or onion bag will work. Hope these ideas help you as they have helped me, along with many of the ones described in the video, will make for a quieter fish room or tank in a family area like your living room.

    I have a filter that hangs on the back of my tank. It’s a aqueon quiet flow 10 led from petco. It’s not horrible with noise I just wish the motor was a tad more silent as the tank is in my bedroom *face palm*
    Any tips to help reduce noise? I was thinking about maybe stuffing a piece of foam between the tank glass and the filter since you mentioned things vibrating against the glass make lots of noise
    Would that work?

    Two things that I’ve found help with air pumps:
    1. If you have extra self leveling mat material laying around, set them on top of that to help reduce vibration.
    2. If you have extra ports you’re not using, attach 12-18 inches of extra airline tubing to them, it really helps reduce the hissing noise from them.

      or just a little stub of piping and put an airstone on the end. airstones muffle them almost completely

      Why are you guys leaving the thing open? The pump will be running less efficiently. Put some tube and a valve, and CLOSE the valve. Also most pumps have their intake underneath, so putting things underneath it can cause it to run harder and heat up, causing it to make more noise as things wear out faster. I suspend mine if I can, or put them behind the tank or in the cupboard, and that usually dulls the sound the most.

    • @RexClair
      @RexClair 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boges11 it’s not sitting on top of the mat and covering its vent holes, it still sits on its rubber feet. The mat simply dampens vibration.

    5 of my 6 tanks have Oase canister filters. My 10g is on a sponge filter with the nano air pump, which is pretty quiet considering. I do want to get a Waterbox Cube 20 sometime this year which has its own internal pump. Now if I could do something about the washer & dryer!

    I have terrible luck with any filter I buy - right now I have a Fluval C2 that is silent - it only took 4 super noisy filters to find it. I am more talking about impeller noise and rattles - water noise is fine with me. Thanks for the video.

    I use a cheap hang on back filter but i perposely leave the water level lower because i want the splashes to create more air bubles
    Do these bubles matter or is the waterflow more important?

    • @error-xn7hn
      @error-xn7hn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bubbles don't matter. You just want to get the surface of the water moving. The oxygen is mostly absorbed through the surface. Even a bubbler is just about moving the surface.

    Use a check valve if keeping an air pump below the waterline ☝️. The linear piston air pumps are very quiet(and cost efficient for lots of tanks👍).

    The noise cause by low water pressure. If you bring your filter up to your tank level, and let it run for a few minutes. Then the noise will disappear. Then you move your filter back under your tank.
