It's so funny, Eli comes across as the most chill sweet person in real life, but when VoicePlay do intense music videos he 100% seems like he would rip out your guts and wear them for a scarf.

Isn't Eli just a scary Viking acolyte? Of all of this group, he would scare me the most as an opponent.
Turning their backs at the end says they do not fear whomever they were communicating with. It shows disdain.

Eli is an exceptional actor-notice how different his Viking here is from his Disney pirate in Hoist the Colours, and both different from Drunken Sailor. He could have brought the same character to all three parts. The man can just shift his facial expressions without seeming to move a muscle, and I always, ALWAYS believe his characters-I don’t see someone acting. In Seven Nation Army I totally believe he could kick anybody’s arse, and here, he’s a total berserker. The other guys in Voiceplay are also amazing actors, and Cesar’s another one of those actors who can be entirely different characters in each song. It’s a really unique gift even among award winning actors. He is so impressive.

I believe this is the first video where we got Eli's digital backgrounds. Everyone was shot against a green screen, but instead of commercially available backgrounds, Eli did all of these in UnReal Engine. This is a Layne arrangement, which I think highly appropriate that he then went on to do the 'sequel' of "Valhalla Calling" And we even get Geoff impersonating a Viking WarHorn.

I was a theater student. I then tried breaking into New York. My good friends used to give me season tickets to Met as a combined birthday/Christmas present. I made money teaching opera students to act. Now you begin to understand why I get such a kick out of your reactions to VP and Geoff. They sound like many and many a late night conversation I took part in in my gloriously misspent youth. You, Darling Man, are a treasure of great value!

I got my bachelor’s in theater, years and years ago. One reason I adore Voiceplay is that apart from being, to a man, absolutely fantastic vocalists (and beatboxer), they are also terrific actors. I always end up zooming in on Eli, especially-the man is a chameleon-totally different and totally believable, creating entirely different characters for every piece.

That sound that Laine makes is as close as you can get to making the sound a battle axe makes when swung into the wind. Now, the words of this are not from a video game. They do come from the Eddas. What? Oh, yes, I have swung a battle axe. And, I still have my two handed battle sword. What? You thought only opera singers were nuts. You guys got nothing on us actors.

Layne has perfected the reverse breath beat boxing.

It was lovely to hear Layne sing, he has such a beautiful baritone. On the other hand, he was beatboxing on another track (or 12), so it confused a few people.
Jose was with them again in Drunken Sailor. It is a Geoff arrangement and vision, and he wrote a bridge for it that is wonderful!!

I think I look the same when hearing a VP song for the first time 😂👍🏻🤫
Love it that you first take the full experience without stopping and afterwards listening again and analysing 👍🏻
I'm normally a sucker for bass and beat, but Eli going all "pirate/viking/berserker-mode" is a whole mood 🤩
They're all so talented it always blows my mind 😮🙈

Thanks for another enthusiastic Voice Play reaction and professional, informative analysis- we love foghorn Geoff in this one! As you can see, it is the same costumed characters from "Valhalla Calling" except Cesar is wearing the hooded robe instead of Jose in "Valhalla Calling" (both covers are from the 'Assassin's Creed" game). I think with your background you would enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Phantom Of The Opera".

So, I'm curious, does anyone else mimic Rock God Eli's hand gestures when he does the "Doo doo doo doo" when listening to this? I totally do doo doo doo doo it. Also in Valhalla Calling, when he thrusts his hands forward on the "Rrrah!" No? Just me? Okay, just checking. 💙

You look how I feel listening to these guys. :) I don't have the energy to react like that now but i feel it. :) That sound from Layne sounds like a trilled R but you could be right. It is pre recorded of course.

You seem to really appreciate Layne’s arrangements. I’d love to hear what you think of one he did in only a couple days (while physically he and his partner were moving Pattycake Studios to another location. Yes, just the two of them moving all their costumes, props and scenery!)
Please consider reacting to Running Up That Hill.

I love Jose in this. He's such a sea captain type! And he does the cutest little nose scrunch in this. And of course, the beatboxing is incredible. Also, Eli's higher voice is such a nice contrast, as most of the guys sing pretty low. Speaking of which, to paraphrase Freud, "Sometimes a digeridoo is just a Geoff Castellucci."💙

    Terrific reaction!
With this song I always think Geoff could wipe out a whole Saxon army with that F1. Also this song was where I picked up that Eli is an extraordinary actor. Watch him from piece to piece-always entirely different characters, and always completely immersed in those characters to the point where I don’t see Eli, I see the character he’s portraying. Compare his pirate in Hoist the Colours to this, and all that to the songs where they aren’t acting, like Wayward Son, where we DO see Eli. Everybody in this group can act, but he has a truly unique gift-one you don’t even see with most award winning actors (some amazing actors convincingly play a version of themselves in extraordinary circumstances, but a very few just disappear into their characters, like Eli).
I like when you get into the vocal perc, since you’re so knowledgeable about how Layne makes some of those wild sounds.
