It cracks me up to think that there’s a whole group of people that this was the first and possibly last Ween exposure. Just a stoned out 17 year old in like ‘95 watching Conan and then THIS happens. Just sitting there like “What the hell was THAT!?”
Ween is one of the most underrated bands of all time. This stuff is so over the top, unique, artistic etc. yet many people just think of them as "that one Ocean Man band"
Not surprising because in recent times they got King Gizzard on the show when Murder of the Universe came out. He's clearly a big fan of these kinds of bands
No. Freaking. Way! I wondered why we didn't see more Ween on Conan! Man they seemed like a perfect fit back in the 90s, with their odd humor. What exactly is offensive about showing Shwarma during a middle-eastern influenced musical number. It doesn't call out any specific groups of peoples, or religions, countries, etc. Nor does that particular style of music belong to any one nationality. It's just a musical scale that makes us think of middle east, Persia, etc. They also happen to enjoy shwarma there...SO WHAT! Would we be offended if Iran TV had a band on playing American-influenced music, and showed a Burger? Damn
@@bigboyjohnald9424 that's so odd that they somehow were in the dark about the shwarma. The producers HAD to be aware that they had video equipment set up, and a screen. They would've been the ones helping set it all up. It never occurred to them to check the footage? Or ask what if might be? That's their job as producers. Unless Ween pulled a bait and switch with another clip, NBC had to have known.
It sucks that they were banned from playing Conan ever again because of this performance. True story, it was because of the spinning shawarma behind the band wasn't cleared by the network.
I mean it kind of is. I'm a fan too but we can all recognize shit was different back then and we're just trying to change for the better after all. Not like anyone is trying to cancel them for this right now or anything.
@@goldielocks9292 I agree to disagree. For example Japanese people are appropriating my culture, Chicano culture and the manner in which they do it is actually endearing and respectful. I think people should have thicker skin and gauge nuance with intent better. I have no ill will towards you or others who don't necessarily agree with me. Hope you're having a good day mane!
@@RobertoReyesChHC nothing but respect brother. I take comfort in seeing another individual with strong opinions yet keen intellect and respectful delivery.

In all seriousness, sometimes you forget how versatile a vocalist Gene is
I’d say both he and Mike Patton are up there in terms of most versatile rock singers
He's one of the best, AT LEAST top 40
I personally don't
@@thejamnasium6447Well that’s because you’re an idiot!!
Deaner too, there is so much nuance and talent
I, for one, was not surprised when he touched the dwarf inside.
I was slightly unsettled. But I came to accept that if the dwarf was in fact a willing participant, i wouldn't object.
I was not as surprised as said dwarf.
I searched for Sammy Kershaw. Good stuff! Albeit different.
The dancer deserves some credit. They really pull this performance together.
She's quite beautiful and moves quite gracefully.
"They" give it a break man

That hot smoldering piece of femininity deserves some credit for sure!

I have to think that Conan absolutely loves these guys

The drummer is on point with the fills
Claude is a god
Legendary
as always
dude I actually met claude after one of their shows in new orleans. he's a very kind man.
The shawerma footage on the backdrop is brilliant!
They said in an interview that they got permanently banned from Conan for having that in the background lmao.

@@kevinr.3542 They said it had something to do with the rights to the footage, not the content. Still seemed like a weird situation.
@@user82938 this performance is one of the best intros I've ever heard though. So pseudo-serious it, I love it.
That was just plain beautiful.
I will not stop until this song has a million views..,,Best version of this song by far...I love you
Did you stop yet?
YOU STOPPED.
Can’t stop won’t stop?
Passionate version of cant put my finger on it!
Imagine being in this audience and knowing nothing about Ween. Highly probable at this point in time.
I finally found this version again! Thank boognish!
Gener might have been a pharaoh in a past life
he was the sun God
He is a god
Thirty eight years later it still sounds fresh.
you sure that math's correct?
gotta love ween
The infamous spinning shawarma
when he was on so many drugs the best
Savvi Long
I feel good for him getting clean and all but you can't deny that this is utter brilliance
he's skinnier when he's on drugs, he's not on drugs here, he has more weight here, like he does now
Some artists are thay way, for better or for worse.
Damn Claude really popped off on this one
Simply brilliant
You have to give a warm welcome to Ween, cause I can't put my finger on it..... Wait!
this is so awesome!
Something about this video is incredible …I just can’t put my finger on it
much better than the studio version imo
This is so great.
Shawarma is one of my favorites! :)
can I have footage of only claude please
Getting major 'is she weird' vibes from this. 👍🏻
both great songs

poor deaner tryna talk to the dancer at the end 3:45
Makes you want Shawarma.

Chocolate and cheeese ‘94

Do yourself a favor and look up the interview following this performance. Its better than the song.
