    • @jenniferstine8567
      @jenniferstine8567 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's okay to raise your hand in the US. Also don't forget to leave a tip. A waiter makes most of his pay from tips. Occasionally you find people who cheer when a waiter breaks something. Many restaurants have switched to unbreakable dishes. It's extremely uncommon for people to say grace before meals at a restaurant.

    The things I associate with Britain (as a German): Union Jack, British Grenadiers, Buckingham Palace, the Queen, British Empire, British knights (including Robin Hood), British winegums, Winston Churchill, tea, fish and chips, multiculturalism, cricket, rugby, beer and pubs (including Irish coffee), pale and blonde and red-haired people, houses with red bricks, tanks, ships and warplanes.

      The things I would stereotypically (not seriously) associate with Germany (As a Briton): Sausage, Beer, Bierocks, Accordions, BMW, Volkswagen, Lederhosen, Seductive voices, Receding hairlines, ruddy faces, Beer, Steins, gotta get some of that Schwartzwalder kirschtorte, Oktoberfest, Amazing medieval weaponry, Bavarian ham, Beer, and (please don't slap me for this) i dunno, the Wehrmacht?
      :) xxx

    • @yamatoclass4959
      @yamatoclass4959 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      James Wilkes Hahahahahha...wwwooooowwww! Awesome! You really think that we have seductive voices?
      Yeah, the Wehrmacht. No, I think no German would get angry about that; I think there is still a lot of sympathy for them, especially among the youth. Of course not because of the crimes of the national socialist regime but because of the men who served in the W. were simply soldiers and because of German military technics from WW2 of course.

    • @jameswilkes6091
      @jameswilkes6091 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      YamatoClass
      You're absolutely right, despite being on opposing sides, we were still all human, and with most white citizens of the UK having Germanic ancestry, it makes it even more strange and stupid. WW1 and 2 were both stupid wastes of lives and resources, and a lot of people here still like to boast of it as "A great success for Britain" but it wasn't, we got into great debt, and hundreds of thousands of young lives were lost on both sides. War is never a success, at all.
      On a more positive note (I should stop being so grumpy) I really like Wine Gums too, we should share some one day when I manage to visit Germany, and we can drink plenty of wonderful Bier :D
      And by the way, what are the best comercially available beers from Germany, I might order some online and stick them in the refridgerator. We Brits pride ourselves on "Real ales" you should check some of them out, they can have really funny names!

    • @yamatoclass4959
      @yamatoclass4959 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Wilkes You're welcome, buddy^^. Yeah, here in Germany factories usally print the Union Jack on everything that is "typical British"; maybe thats why young people like associate wine gums with British food, hahahaha...
      We do have a pretty positive attitude toward Britain here. I think I've never heard anyone saying something negative about Britain. We just love your culture, your country and your landscape: beautiful, medieval castles, witches, vampires, ghosts, Harry Potter, Macbeth, Mary Stuart, tradition are also things we associate with Britain. I mean, there a so many positive things people talk about when they mention England or Britain that I dont think we have any negative stereotype at all, to be honest.
      I must confess that I dont drink beer generally :P . I'm a physics student and I dont have much time for going out and stuff, and to be very honest, I dont like the taste of beer. I like "Fassbrause" by Krombacher. Thats a beer I definately could suggest. It tastes fruity.I live in Frankfurt on Maine, by te way.

    • @jameswilkes6091
      @jameswilkes6091 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, I've always found beer to be a strange taste too, but I always find the local stuff is alway better, and sometimes cheaper! I always go for a brand called "Desperados" but Hollows& Fentiman's Ginger Ale is the nectar of the gods...
      But cheers man, it's nice to know all that positive stuff, I guess it's only the football hooligans and the grumpy old fogeys who complain about anything like that!

      I played WoW with Aussies for years, and they as English speakers have the most distinct ability to turn off and on accents from other places. The ones I played with could be in game chat sound just like an American/Canadian. When they talked to someone out of game, while their mic was still on, they would speak with a full on Aussy accents. Never heard anyone do that as well on command from anywhere else. I'd imagine it has something to do with being online gamers for so many years, growing up communicating with people outside their local dialects for hours a day. Online games on English speaking servers are almost totally dominated in numbers by Americans.

    • @skyworm8006

      The U.S has plenty of different accents, this is due to their beginning mixed origins (some parts would have Spanish mixed with other things instead of a British accent mixed with other things). Australia doesn't really have too many official different accents though, it's really just 3 versions of the same accent. This is due to having a single origin, regardless of the mixing that occurred later it doesn't have a strong effect on the main accent, as it is already a stable throughout the entire country and is hard to change.
      I think the different accents in the U.K can be attributed to things far back in history. It used to be (most of Europe was really) a collection of tribes. I assume these tribes had different accents to each other, later others immigrated and invaded(like the Normans) bringing new accents which would have mixed.
      Oh and one final pandering, some of the "higher-class" people at some point pushed for their accent to sound more "posh" more, sophisticated. To set themselves apart from the common folk. This could have created more accents too.
