  • In this video, I talk about one of the best downscalers on the market today. The Mimo Genius II is as good as it gets when converting your 480p resolution down to 240p.

    Here's Fudoh's full review of the Mimo Genius I & II. This review inspired me to get a hold of this unit and make a review myself:

      Oh I thought I mentioned it in the video, but it's an Extron RGB 203 Rxi. It's a sync processor.

    How does the quality of the Genius II's downscaling compare to a Extron Super Emotia? Also, how can I purchase a Mimo Genius II?

      This is a bit tricky, as both have their pros and cons but I'll try to answer the best I can.
      The Extron Super Emotia is a true plug and play solution, so there is no need to adjust any settings. If you watched my review on the SE, you can see that all 4 borders provide a perfect 4:3 ratio. Another advantage the SE has is it can output RGBS, which is very PVM/BVM friendly. The downside to the SE is that the picture could be a tad sharper, but that could be the case for various reasons. The SE was manufacture in the 90's, so the caps inside might need to be replaced.
      The Mimo Genius II on the other hand is not a simple plug and play solution, as it provides a few options to customize its input settings as well. The MGII provides an extremely crisp display when outputting 240p content. This might be due to the downscaling line count starting at lines 1 and 2 rather than 2 and 3 like the SE might be doing, as well as it being recently built so everything is brand new. One downside I found about the MGII is the VGA output can only do RGBHV. This output signal is not PVM/BVM friendly and will require a sync processor like the Extron RGB 203 Rxi. I personally would prefer to have less clutter in my video game set up. Another disadvantage is it's extremely sensitive when the input timings are adjusted. If the settings are not perfect, the user can experience speckle artifacts, garbage pixels and screen tearing. This is why it's difficult to have a perfect 4:3 ratio, because one slight adjustment will throw off another setting.
      Overall, they both have pros and cons and would be up for the individual to pick and choose what works best for their set up.

      Thanks for asking about purchasing the MGII. I updated the details section to provide more info on that.

      I have tried emailing them to buy a Mimo Genius II but they never responded. Can I buy your Mimo Genius II if you are going to use your Extron Super Emotia?

    I would like to sell my Super Emotia Gx and get one of these Mimo2's since my Uvc died a few months ago, I need my 24khz fix but sadly these are nowhere to be found.

    • @Ex_Savior
      @Ex_Savior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's right. The Mimo Genius II does handle 24khz signals. Unfortunately, I don't have any Tri-Sync monitors to test it with.

      I wish you could, but the PS1 doesn't support sync on green, therefore it cannot be used.
