    Total War: Shogun 2 Gameplay Information:
    In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.
    Take on the role of one Daimyo, the clan leader, and use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun - the undisputed ruler of a pacified nation.
    -----
    Total War: Shogun 2 Features:
    Total War: SHOGUN 2 features enhanced full 3D battles via land and sea, which made a name for the series, as well as the tactical campaign map that many refer to as the heart and soul of Total War. Featuring a brand new AI system inspired by the scriptures that influenced Japanese warfare, the millennia old Chinese “Art of War”, the Creative Assembly brings the wisdom of Master Sun Tsu to Total War: SHOGUN 2. Analysing this ancient text enabled the Creative Assembly to implement easy to understand yet deep strategical gameplay.

    BUILD your kingdom on the inviting and turn-based campaign map. Wield economic, political, and military power to amass wealth, armies, and influence.
    SCHEME according to the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Use fire and siege tactics, spies and assassins to adapt to the ever-changing conditions on the battlefield and throughout your kingdom.

    Apparently if you offer the Takeda 20 turns of military access as soon as you meet them, you can get them to:
    1. Break Alliance with Hojo
    2. Become your ally
    3. Enter war against Ikko Ikki
    4. Enter war against Hojo

    • @JonatasMonte

      @@JonatasMonte as long as you have very good relations with them you can keep them as an ally in the very end (even during the realm divided and after that you can be a dick and backstab them). takeda is probably the best clan to have as an ally since it's AI is good as fuck and can some times rule over 15+ provinces

    Uesugi clan must build up their navy not for battle purposes but for transportation and should never venture far inland, also staying at the coast means securing ports for trade nodes with more clans :). So the best uesugi play is to not play by history and ignore takeda.
    There is a trick for ship allowing you to move your armies by insane distances by making them board another ship at the end of the other ships action pts :)
    Thumbs up for the road thing never thought of that xD combined with ship transport idea this might be worth another play through.

    i think the ikko ikki should be priority 1, the monasteries needed to build your warrior monk armies can be helpful in killing the ikko religion, plus the fletcher and blacksmith the ikko have can help buff your monks late game

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  7 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      Late game. You hit the nail on the head there. Leave the Ikko Ikko to other forces such as the Takeda, Hattori and Oda. You don't need the blacksmith and fletcher until later in the game. Going west means you make things a lot more difficult for yourself, you're going to get far less income, and you're going to be going to war with far more clans than if you east. All for things you don't need until the later game.

    • @koreancowboy42
      @koreancowboy42 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep, you definitely dont wanna tempt eyes of the other clans that way. Especially Oda since their a powerful clan during early game.
      Sorry am late

    • @kyokushinbaka6046
      @kyokushinbaka6046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrSmartDonkeyLP I'd rather rush south with 1 army and go southest with the other to secure the gold mine, blacksmith, crafts, 2 schools and warhorses early on. Hatakeyama rarely move out of their province, and the date and the mogami will fight each other for a lot of turns in those big provinces.
      After this going east with 1 army and holding against the oda with another makes most sense, let the ikko ikko fight the oda and other clans there if they're still alive, get a few vassals with the sevond army to defend against the ikko ikki.
      After that the game is pretty much set since your finances are taken care by many fertile lands and 2 gold mines. Uesugi probably get the best unit roster if you play a very offensive playstyle, so if you can reach this point you'll have a pretty smooth mid-late and late game as well.
      Tech proving grounds and master weaponsmoth on your warrior monks, so you can get the awesome marathon monks who are an excellent flanking unit, which can also quickly intercept and kill enemy cav charging at your bows or general.

  • @TheLoyalOfficer

    I finally figured this out! I did the "single city" method in Echigo and waited until I had a sustainable Fortress. Then I wiped out a 4 stack army of Takeda plus Jinbos as they impaled themselves on my walls. Then I launched a counteroffensive and took all of Takeda's lands. Things are going great now and although I have battles on multiple fronts I am hanging tough with about 14 provinces! I'm on my way. :)

    The best campaign I ever played was on Very Hard with the Uesugi. It was just a constant war with lots of factions on multiple fronts which made it a much more interesting campaign than all the others I played. Something else: I think the Uesugi are easily the best agressive army faction in the game (with the Date). Naginata warrior monks recruited in the right provinces and leveled up a little just have an insane damage output. They shred armies in seconds. 2-4 yari cav, 2-4 katana samurai and the rest warrior monks and bow monks is in my opinion the best campaign army possible.

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Camera is also restricted in battles. Those are the battle difficulty differences. On the campaign the AI pays even less upkeep, you pay even more, they're more aggressive towards the player, things like that.

    I'm Shogun in 1583 as the Uesugi and my strategy is not to fight in too many fronts specially against Takeda and Ikko at the same time so I was able to keep the Ikko neutral while I took out the Takeda and from there I went after the Date and came back for the Oda once destroyed the Oda then everyone hated me and the Shogun declared war on me but by then I was way too strong and to keep my budget under control I used numbers instead of quality of troops, if you make your ashigaru strong with high experience they will hold their own specially defending on the walls so two units of high experience ashigaru can neutralize just about any one unit

    when i see your battle lines I get a lil cringe because I always either pour all my units to the middle or focus on a flank =\ or sometimes trick the ai on thinking I have a real battle line but one side of my army always have the superior units and my inferior units I always retreat back as the enemy threatens them :\ if I remember this was on a book or something its called somekind of formation but I used it before even knowing that (or maybe I did is just my memory sucks).
    Oh I do engage with my inferior units when the enemy starts focusing on my strong flank which at that point should be done with the enemies flank and at the end I have numerical superiority and tactical superiority since my lines at that point looks more like a crooked L shape where the enemy is kind of surrounded.

  • @newindika849

    I finished recently a legendary campaign with Uesugi and ironically I found them the easiest clan I have played. I focused on Chi, beelining to chonindo. Echigo is a great choke point. On turn 4 or 5 it's possible to take Sado early on and it's a huge boost to your economy. Then, Date & Mogami are the next targets. Valuable provinces, fertile soil and resources. One trick is not building roads on Echigo. You don't have to give your enemies the advantage of reaching your capital quickly. Since the AI has to spend several turns to reach your capital you can use this to your advantage and with a general and 2-3 light cav units you can vassalize what it leaves behind undefended. Once Realm divide hits, the trade bonus income is your friend. Make vassals and enjoy having a good economy. The only part I missed is that I hadn't time to use Warrior Monks. I steamrolled the map with ashigaru armies and this is something I regret.

Go look at an actual map of Japan and then look at the in-game map, it's close enough that east and west are still accurate terms, and even if they weren't, even if they flipped the map upside down I'd still say the same exact thing, because why confuse people by using the real map as opposed to the one provided in the game, that's just stupidity.

      I never understood why this guy is so famous. All he ever did was getting his horse spooked and accidentally charged through Takeda line. Nobunaga's Battle of Okehazama, on the other hand, was something so legendary that one could mistaken its origin as Hollywood production.

    • @vanlao6367
      @vanlao6367 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well, apparently he's famous enough that there's a saying when people compare him as " Dragon of Echigo" while Takeda is " Tiger of Kai", and the rivalry between Takeda and Uguesi is the add on to make it more so.
      On the other hand, I think the reason while he's famous maybe because he's an odd ball in the Sengoku jidai era. His clan is one of the most powerful clans in the era, and yet he rarely expand his territory like any other daimyos unless it is the only solution. His enthusiasm to Buddhism make people think he stand for justice or something similar.

    • @TheKripox

      It not quite accurate. See, Kenshin was not born a Uesugi, he was born Nagao Kagetora, member of the Nagao clan wo were vassals of the Uesugi. When he was 15 he usurped the Nagao clan leadership from his older brother, which is his age here. However, when the lord of the uesugi later came to him for help he would help only if the uesugi daimyo would adopt him as heir. The lord agreed, Kagetora became a Uesugi, quickly took over the whole clan and changed his name a few times until settling on Uesugi Kenshin.
      They just didnt want to represent all that mess in game so they just made him the Uesugi daimyo from the beginning.

    I don't think the campaign is that hard, you can expand by winning against the first enemy you have and further you have the blacksmith and pottery that make you huge amount of money if you place the correct buildings and you can make the warrior monks units way better with better accuracy, armor and weapons

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With enough practice nothing is hard, but that doesn't change the fact that out of the 12 clans in the game, the Uesugi have one of the hardest starts.

      I've played every clan on legendary difficulty multiple times, with challenges like Ninjas only, Cavalry Only, Siege Units Only, what have you, and in my opinion the Oda is one of the easiest campaigns because they have the 2 best units in the game that you can spam like crazy, Yari Ashigaru and Long Yari Ashigaru, they're cheap because of the Oda's traits so you can have loads of armies running around rampaging through Japan.

      Going west down the Hokuriku coast (aka the Dragon's Head strategy), while attractive in theory, is one of the worst ways to open as Uesugi, imo. It brings you in conflict with the Ikko-Ikki and the Hatakeyama, both will be long-term conflicts. It takes years to entirely subdue that region due to the religion penalty. While you're bogged down, you're open to whoever is coming out of Kansai and Takeda (assuming Takeda doesn't come for you early on).
      The thing with Uesugi is that you have to rely on luck sometimes. It could be anywhere from a manageable, one-conflict-at-a-time campaign to where you are gangbanged by a Hojo-Takeda-Imagawa unholy entente.

      I’d lump the Uesugi with Tokugawa and Hattori as the hardest factions to play, even though Uesugi is my favorite faction.

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      If anything Ikko Ikki would be a copy of the Uesugi. Since the Ikko Ikki are a DLC clan whereas Uesugi were in the base game. Either way, as others pointed out, there's a lot of unit differences between the Ikko Ikki and Uesugi. Ikko Ikki get a lot of unique units no other clan has access too, and the the Uesugi have access to the regular Samurai and Ashigaru units that the Ikko Ikki do not.

      It was mostly a joke, and also I really don't care that much. I'm not Japanese, you can't expect people who don't speak Japanese to know how to perfectly pronounce things.
