The 2021 Triumph Street Triple R is one of the finest motorcycles I've ever ridden for its performance alone, but there's a lot more to this bike than that. Its light weight and neutral riding position make it easy to ride in just about any setting, from the densest urban centers to the wide open highways. Elliot, what a great review! I own a '21 Street Triple R and you nailed all of the great qualities this bike offers. I enjoy it most on the twisty mountain roads. Look into a curve and the bike starts responding immediately. So competent. So compliant. So much fun!

Hey! Not owned a Street Triple. I do have the Daytona Moto2, and it's great. You know I'm getting the 2023 Street Triple Moto2 this summer. Summer in Tucson, it's going to be hot. But I'm definitely going to the 600-mile service. I saw this video before, but I had no intention of getting one, till now! 😉
Adore my 2010 Street Triple R! The 2023 black/gold like my 2010 will be hard to resist.
While I think most would agree that the Bonneville in all its variations is the iconic platform of the company, the Street Triple is Triumph’s penultimate creation in my opinion. It is an almost perfect combination of power, weight, and handling.

Bought a 2014 street triple r as my first bike...been riding lambrettas and vespas for 30years...I ride with advanced motorcyclists and have been having such a great time on the roads around England. Yes it's way more powerful than my lambrettas but my road craft gave me confidence to purchase the triumph...great vid, ride safe.
Adding the metric conversions is such a simple thing to do but hugely valuable, thanks very much for that.

Have owned a 2012 Street triple R for a year and a half now and absolutely love the machine. Agree with many of the points mentioned in this video. Great on the twisties. Awful on the motorway/highway (I find windblast very uncomfortable on the neck above a certain speed) and solid around town. Every pillion I have ever taken has also aged about a decade after jumping on the back for a spin. Rubber side down! 🏍💨
I have a '20 Street Triple R (low ride height model) and have used it mostly to riding in the twisties, but as you suggest, I did take it for a track day this year one day instead of my usual '07 CBR600RR track bike. It was a blast and I really enjoyed it, the engine is perfect for the track, so very smooth and predictable. It also gave me a chance to work with a suspension service who was at the track to dial in the suspension a bit since I hadn't done anything with it from stock. I wasn't having any real issues but it's a bit better now.
My future next motorcycle.

Test rode a 2022 Street Triple yesterday and loved the bike except on the freeway. Over 65mph it got “buzzy” in the bars and in the mirrors. Everywhere else though what a blast. Transmission was the best I’ve ever used in a street bike and sound was quite intoxicating.

My wife started with her love of motorcycles with small dirt bikes in the paddocks and back blocks years ago, I bought her 1st road bike a 2013 honda cbr250r, rode that for around 3 years getting her on road confifidence, skill and ride conditioning up with longer and more technical rides, she has jus (nov 23) stepped up to a 2022 Triumph Street triple r LRH and absolutely loves it, she has it in rain mode for this time till she feels the full sport mode out.
i just bought this bike. incredible... i love how they kept the analog tach. it might be the last model to sport those iconic blue led shift indicators.

First off, great video and review. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I own a 2016 Street Triple RX and I LOVE it. It's my third bike that I worked up to starting with a Buell Blast, upgraded to a Suzuki Gladius, then decided I needed a little more hp to keep up with my husband's BMW R1200R. The street triple was an attractive choice for a lot reasons that you mentioned in your review but in the end I chose it because it was light. That gives me more control and I feel very comfortable and confident in my riding even with all that power. My upgrades: lowered it 1.5 inches (because I'm only 5'4"with short stubby legs), aftermarket seat, bar end mirrors, and engine crash bars.
Nice! Strangely, I think the R is the only trim that's offered in a factory-lowered version. Glad yours is working out for you!
I own an 09 triple R, most of my riding is in the canyons. I put apex clip on bars on it and it's awesome! I can now get better body positioning and because the bars are adjustable, the ride height is more comfortable than a Daytona or other super sports.
All true about this machine, how is it so well sorted I ask myself with each ride?
I have been riding bikes since 1971 and its by far the best handling road bike ever in my opinion, I have ridden some bad ones and a few good ones. The Street Triple is light responsive and powerful. Forget the touring its not a tourer by any means. Why not it revs too hi, its not relaxed the seat is good for a short wrap only.
If you want to tour buy the 1200 Triumph.
Its home paddock is the twisties, it is so smooth and slick it makes every corner too easy with loads of
confidence inspiring finesse. Over shooting a corner on this scooter would be hard., it just turns in with no hint of any fuss.

As for beginners start small say a 300 cc and ride for a few years not just one.

This is got to be one of the most complete and comprehensive Triumph Street Triple reviews I’ve come across so far. The way you explain it’s features and not linger on the small details and quirks makes it very enjoyable and educational to watch. Plus the scenery you chose to showcase it is on point. I used to live in RVA and never got the chance to ride on US-33 or any of the northeast nicest roads, so thank you for showing us where bikes like this one can be enjoyed to the fullest. What if somebody DID get it as a first bike? Somebody mature and not looking to do anything foolish.. but doesnt want to buy a smaller bike ill want to trade in pretty quickly

@@VanBlamm Yea, its arguably the best bike I've ever owned. Love the look of it, and that engine is one of the best out there IMHO, especially with a nice aftermarket exhaust and tune. Such a great bike.

mine is 1 year younger and now 4000 km on it since december last year when I got it new. It is my very first bike and no regrets at all. Did not visit the track but everything else I did. Autobahn is boring as hell but country roads are super fun. City a mere necessity but the bile doesn‘t protest and can be handled at super low speeds. Now that spring is coming finally getting the experience of long days in the saddle. Today after 7 hours of riding feeling not tired at all.
I had mentioned in a previous video that I was going to test ride the RS version of this bike, and a rocket 3 gt. Ended up going with the rocket since I have carpel tunnel that flares up in my wrists from an aggressive riding position, but I agree 100% with you assessment of the handling of the Street Triple. It handles like a dream and you really feel like you are "part" of the bike vs just riding it. The quick shifter on the Street Triple also worked fantastic and I ended up ordering one for the Rocket. (I figure a rocket GT with mid mounts + quick shifter should be pretty fun)
That said, I still may end up picking up a Street Triple down the road just for fun and shorter rides.
That's awesome! You got basically my ideal spec for the Rocket 3 (R pegs, GT bars, quick shifter). Enjoy the hell out of that thing!

I bought this bike last November as well as a 2022 model. A high quality product, a very handling and nimble bike, very precise with great components. The Diablo Rosso 3 are very good whatever the conditions, the Brembo M4.32 are doing well and the combination with the Showa fork and rear suspension are absolutely perfect 😍 and what about the engine ❤️ Impossible to be wrong with this bike! I definitely recommend it 👍✌️😉

Great review. Thanks! Went from a speed twin to a multistrada950 and then to a 14 STR. I know...too much bike changing but I am so happy with this bike. I actually ride it in DC so all your roads were familiar to me. It accelerates fantastic is really torquey and the handling is a dream. Its so good and so much easier than my other bikes that at first I was afraid it would lessen my riding skill but hopefully it hasn't as I try not to be sloppy at all with it. Previous owner put custom seat on so its actually more comfortable than the Multi if you can believe it and way more than the Speedy. Just put the 20 mm risers on to ease up a it on the wrists. Every ride is fun. Period. Wondering from others if the newer ones are worth trading for with the slightly bigger engine. Thanks again great job.

Having not been on a motorcycle for 10 years i decided to get a 2019 street triple R. Have not regretted it, and managed to take it on a track day last season. Amazing bike, I don’t think I was even able to take full advantage of its capabilities.
One thing I’m not sure you mentioned was that it has different ride modes. I was using rain mode the first while just to get the hang of it again. Now I ride in road mode and it’s got plenty of power for me. I rarely use track mode unless I’m riding with my buddies with faster bikes. Awesome review!

I had a brand new 2015 FZ09, got hit on it only a year later, been wanting to get another bike and have been eyeing one of these up at my local dealer. Glad I found this video to affirm my attraction to great naked bikes. I'd get another FZ09 (now MT09) but I'm not a fan of the new headlights and color schemes. BUT THIS TRIPLE R THOUGH ! Thanks for watching! You'd miss some of the low-end torque you used to have, but other than that the Street Triple R would make a more than worthy successor to the FZ-09.
I have a 2018 Triumph Street Triple R that I commuted 50 freeway miles each way in Florida for 3/4 of a year. It was fine for that, but the wind blast did become quite noticeable above 80 MPH. The cowling above the lights directs the wind blast so that if you lean over more and more as your speed goes up the wind blast will hit you in just the right spot. Cruising around town, where you need the best visibility, you'll be sitting fairly upright and not really notice any wind. You will be leaned over a bit at highway speeds, but not uncomfortably so. Adjust your angle of lean so that the wind blast hits the upper half of your chest. This will take almost all the weight off of your hands. If you feel any numbness, fatigue, or cramping in your hands you're doing it wrong. I rode from Seattle to Sacramento, CA in two days. Very long days in the saddle are possible. IMO, the bike is unparalleled for riding around town and on twisty roads. I've had mine up to 109 and have seen evidence that an RS can do 141. How fast do you really want to go on the street or highway? As for a second rider on the pillion, an hour is about tops. You will notice the extra weight (my girlfriend is 105) and the handling changes a bit, but all-in-all it's fine. I have a Kriega US-30 Drypack with the Triumph fit kit. It holds plenty and you can attach, through side and top attachment loops, additional packs to bring the total to 70l. I'm not sure I'd recommend that.

Hi, thanks for the ride. I love those roads you chose, it really puts this bike in it's best place. I have the same model Street R and cannot say enough good things about it. Although I have owned larger bikes in the past - I had a MT-03 for a year before the triple and I think it has all the advantages of the smaller bike (lightness, ease of manoeuvre, great in town) and also those of a larger machine (great brakes, excellent suspension, plenty of speed) I can't see myself trading it any time soon. BTW I loved the luggage you featured, I'll have to see if it's available in the UK. Stay safe and have fun :>)

It definitely feels like a much broader midrange and it doesn't really stop pulling around 100mph like the 14 did. I like the addition of the quickshifter but it isn't very smooth so I only use it for the upshifts. Handles just as well as the 14 but it felt like significantly more high frequency vibration to me on the 21. I liked the feel of the throttle and the sound better on the 14. If you don't spend a lot of time above 80mph, then you're really not missing much. Just get a quickshifter up only and its perfect.
Man I so badly want one! Was close to pulling the trigger on one as my first bike (though I’ve known to ride for years), but decided to get a CB300R and instead build my skills more fully before going for this in say 18 months.
Just picked up a 2010 St Triple 2 weeks ago and I have just started to venture out and admire it! Im not a newbie by any means but I do enjoy the snappy quick agile feel. She is the best looking St Trip on the road with her Black and gold wheels. Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels

The biggest thing that swayed me to a 2021 Z900 was not price or the engine, but the ability to use hard cases for touring.

This is the bike that I always come back to…I’m curious about the 890 Duke as well.
I've never ridden a Duke (or any KTM for that matter) but I really want to. Seems like the 890 is one of the closest bikes out there to the Street Triple, at least specs-wise.

I picked up my 2022 Street Triple R LRH two fridays ago. Fantastic bike. I was a cruiser guy for the longest. Had an Indian Scout and recently traded my Indian Chief Dark Horse for the Triple R LRH. First bike I paid in cash after the trade. Fantastic bike, worlds different from what I am used to. Still, the twisty country roads I have here in Texas are a whole different experience with this beast. While I was used to my Darkhorse and it basically riding itself in 1st gear, this bike does need a few extra RPM to get going from a stop. No issue, just a learning point for me as the Dark Horse was just too easy to ride.
With all that being said, there is one point I wanted to make. The Street Triple R in the manual specifically says that 87 octane is sufficient for the bike. I felt a little weird with this as all bikes I've ever owned were 91+. I put 89 in after my first fill-up and no issue. Yesterday I put 87 in, and no knocking at all. I know the manual says 87, just felt weird for me. So while the premium you put in isn't hurting anything, for those that want a slightly better gas for money, 87 works and is the standard per Triumph.
Nice! I rode a Chief Dark Horse recently and enjoyed it, but obviously it is an entirely different animal. Glad you're enjoying the Triple.

Motodemic makes a very very nice round Led headlight for this bike. Pricey though
2021 street triple R owner here. 14,000 miles in a year with zero problems. My only real complaint and this is probably because I’m 50 is that the foot pegs are pretty high and I constantly think about getting a foot peg lowering kit but I already scrape my boots in the twisties so that’s probably a bad idea.

Hello, nice video👍. I own a 2015 Street Triple R 675, and would have to say I have zero complaints about it. I’ve owned a ‘99 ZX-6R, and although I dont remember that 4 cyl engine having as noticable of vibration over 6K rpm, it had to be wound out higher in the rpm range to get the power the Street Triple does much lower. Also you cannot beat the sound of a triple- the growl of this engine with a Leo Vince slip-on is far superior to any 4 cyl in my opinion. Also the steering on the Street Triple is hands down the best of any bike Ive riden, its scary nimble at any speed. Hope this helps confirm your review, take care👍
Got a killer deal on a ‘20 Street Triple RS for my wife’s first bike. While I had an absolute blast riding it, it was NOT a good beginner bike for her. Even lowered to fit her 5’ 2” height, and in Rain mode, she just wasn’t very confident on it. So we traded straight up for a ‘22 Street Twin Gold Line. Her bike now complements my ‘20 Speed Twin nicely, and she’s learning to ride very well. That said, the Striple is an amazing bike! I’m 6’ 0” and found it exceptionally comfortable.
Lastly, Eliot, your editing and productions are top notch, but I found myself mentally replacing your music score during the twisty section with Kenny Loggins’ Highway to the Danger Zone. Way more fitting, don’t you think?!

Good video. Honest and fair! I bought my Triumph Street triple RS 2018 as a first bike. It is easy to drive and reliable. Very good driving characteristics in combination with good power. It's super fast when you need speed, but you can also slide around in town with it without feeling that he dos t go smooth. Only thing i want to mention with my RS is Speed wheelies.. but i have started to get used to them now. Doesn't matter if you have activated ABS, Antiskid system or wheelie control, you still get speed wheelies on RS.. but honestly they are nice and they give the feeling that you are sitting on a wildly powerful machine. I love my Triumph and the companion with the exhaust sound from the Scorpion red power is wonderful. I'm sure I'll keep mine for a few years to come.
Sorry to ask, I am proud owner of Street Triple 2018 RS since half a year. As a first bike as well and haven't had speed wheelies so far. What riding mode where you using when the front wheel came up? And do you know around what amount of rpm? Thanks! I stick to street mode for now and avoid sport and track mode.
I do not own a Triumph ST but a couple of years ago I thought about it. Even test rode one at the Triumph Dealership in Dulles VA. It was a short test ride, too short really to get a decent feel for the bike. I do remember that it was quite light and kinda of cheap feel to it. But w/e. I have never heard anything negative about the bike, almost always the opposite. Ok, December 2020 I bought a KTM 790 Adventure S. Love the bike ! It does everything I could want on a bike. From Adventure to Sport Touring. Superb handling, more than ample power and torque, and riding position comfort (well the seat ... ordered a Corbin Seat the other day, have a bad back regardless). Bought a set of Lone Rider saddle bags (in process of putting them on now). Ok, getting back to the type of bike like the Triumph Speed Triple. I noticed the "New" 2022 Yamaha XSR 900 and it looks like a bike that in most ways will rival the Triumph ST. Since it is a "new" version of the XSR 900 there are not any in showrooms as of yet that I know of so I cannot test ride one to experience first hand. But it does look very promising as a choice for an additional bike to add to my motorcycle stable instead of the Triumph ST. Where or what is the purpose of my comment here ? I have no idea, haha. I see that you live in the DMV area which I can relate to since I live in this area as well. By the way, I also own a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II Stone and a 2015 Harley Super Low 1200T. Though I probably would have to rid myself of one of those two bikes if I were to purchase the 2022 Yamaha XSR 900 or any other additional bike. Or, maybe simply decommission one of them for insurance savings. Who knows, many years from now they may become a collectors item when all motorized vehicles are electric, haha just joking. I mean by then gasoline/diesel will be illegal, inpossible to get, hehe. Later ...

I test rode an XSR900 last year. The motor is in a different league from the Street Triple, with torque all through the rev range. The chassis didn't feel nearly as refined though. Unfortunately the updated XSR is ugly as sin (in my opinion) but I'm sure it rides better than ever.

Riding a 2020 R since 08/2020 - i like it a lot and it ticks many boxes of "what I want from a bike" and "can do anything". I love the price-value getting from the Bike. Its surely not a CHEAP bike - but comparing to other options in that range the street R is super equipped (Showa adjustable, Brembo M4 brakes, steelflex etc.) - its so great. On other premium brands you easily pay 12.000 $ plus to get that, or even pay 12k but get lower range stuff on the bike.
I know its not going to happen, but if i would have a wish free, i would like to see a 2024 street triple with a ~960ccm tripple engine. With like 135 PS and 100 NM. Its not so much about the extra power, just having some more torque would be nice. The Street R has already so much more umpf then for example the Honda 650 - so dont be worried, the 765 does the job cool. Only if you know 100 NM form other bikes, you wish the street R would also be available in such a setup. Ducati street fighter V2 does appeal me because of that reason - but hey 16,999 $ really Ducati?
Thanks for the input! That's actually a really interesting idea. We just saw Triumph turn the Trident 660 into a Tiger 660; perhaps they could do the opposite and put the Tiger 900 motor into a naked bike package? With a sportier tune, of course.

Hiya, great video. You mentioned filtering in the the US is not wholly embraced. Here in England filtering is allowed by law and generally drivers are pretty good here in Lincolnshire to let us through. When ya think about it the more motorcycles are on the road, especially rush hour, it will reduce car numbers. Simples. Take care mate.

My 675R is great but I do think sixth gear should've been much taller. When you're on the boring bits between the twisties you don't need it revving away the way it does. I can't believe anybody would tour on one. It sounds 'urgent' 100% of the time which might get a bit wearing after the first hour...

Great review, would you choose it over the Speed Twin? If not why? Besides the look, it seems that the Triple has a lot going for it.
Both make great all-rounders, and if I spent more time riding sportily or on the track then the Triple would be a lot more tempting. Given my riding style and tastes however, I could not give up the Speed Twin's torque and personality, even if the handling and top-end aren't as good.

NICE review! I wish I would've bought this bike instead of the GSX-s1000 I own. I'm at 6k miles now, it's just a bit big and heavy for my 5'7" 165lb size. Honestly my Suzuki is to powerful, lol. The price was right, oh well we live and learn. Ride safe out there.

The buffeting on my Street Twin at 70+ on the interstate was really annoying (along with lack of passing power). I had the same buffeting on my fully faired Ninja 1000 with the same helmet, the Scorpion EXO-R420. On both bikes life is much better with the replacement helmet, the Scorpion EXO-R1-Air; it just cuts through smoothly. The air blast on the Street Twin never bothered me, but I can ride a lot longer, and be much more comfortable on the Ninja 1000...I think a lot of it is from the windscreen dumping all the air at my head and not my chest...and the new helmet just cuts right through that smoothly.
Amazing what a difference the lid makes! I'm thinking about putting a +1 front sprocket on my Speed Twin to make highway life easier
I think you pretty much confirmed that this should be the bike I get. my first bike was a harley iron 883 - and as i kept riding i got really annoyed that the pipes and pegs would constantly grind whenever i tried to have fun in the corners - loved the low seat height of that bike but after 18k miles of riding it i found it to be slow, sluggish and uncomfortable after about 40 minutes of riding it or so (but reliable and cool looking). I am 5'6 (maybe can squeeze in 5'7) with a 29" inseam - would this bike be too tall for me (this is what initially kept me away from sportier bikes). Also wondering what quality and reliability is like with these bikes. Also love that you highlighted the riding we have here in the DMV area the mountain roads were really hard to exploit on my harley :(. Love the channel btw.

Good video. I owned a 2017 765 R model for one year. I moved on to a Super Duke R (was to brutal) and than to a F 900 XR. Although both got more low down torque, I miss the Street Triple. Touring was actually great for me on the Street Triple. And I liked the light weight a lot as well as the soul of that bike. I plan to go back to a Street Triple maybe in 2023 when the next update is released.
How is the F900XR? I'm hesitant between street triple R and F900XR

@@the_freedom_quest My personal experience is that the F900XR has a more comfortable suspension, more torque and better fueling in lower revs. The Street Triple is more in the sporty side with a firmer suspension, torque in higher revs and more jerky throttle in first and second gear as well as in lower revs. On the other hand the Street Triple has a better seat and a more emotional engine. It's up to your taste. Try both and take what you like more.

3:35 i've found the opposite to be true. my 2024 765 R gets hot as hell. so hot the footpegs feel like they're melting the soles of my riding shoes.
but that's only when i'm riding hard, not when i'm leisurely cruising on city streets.

Could you by chance show how you have your GoPro mounted on your helmet?
I use a RideTechMoto mount, which are 3d printed to match specific helmet models. There are also GoPro housings out there that fit both the camera and the microphone adapter together; I've used ones from Ulanzi and Artman. This video was filmed with my old Shoei RF1200, but I'm planning to do an overview of how I set up my new RF1400.
Hi Elliot, I had a ‘11 Street R. Beauty and Beast in one. The reason I sold it was because it’s so eager to get going very quick. When riding with the misses I was way up ahead al the time. Now searching for a Speed Twin 1200. Gotta get a big boy ones in your life right?
How do you feel the two compare?
Very different bikes, but both awesome. The Speed Twin is happy to ride at low and medium speeds, just a very easygoing bike when you want it to be. It goes fast too, but the Street Triple is much faster and more agile.

Pillion accommodations are not going to be better on the STripleR. Probably about the same as the Z650. You can do it, but you probably don't want to do it all day long.

I’m really trying to choose between a 2021 Street Triple R and a Thruxton R. It’s difficult.
How do you think it compares to speed twin ? I mostly ride in the mountains and so the triple makes sense however the torque on twin and those looks take my heart away. So on twisties how does the twin compare to the triple ?
Depends on how serious of a sport rider you are. In expert hands, the Triple can be much faster than the Twin in the twisties, but in my hands they're equally fast (equally slow I mean). So for me the effortless torque and charisma of the Twin gives it an easy win. If you're smitten with the Speed Twin then I say go for that, unless you have a few track days under your belt and need to keep up with buddies on supersports.

I LOVE my 2022 STR. The only CON is... you can't enjoy this bike unless you are constantly gunning it or doing twisties. There's absolutely no joy in riding this casually/gently.
How do you find the power down low? Does it make good torque?
The low end is good enough for comfortable around town use. You won't be redlining 1st gear every time you set off from a traffic light (unless you want to, of course!)
Disagree with your statement : I had it as first bike, and it's absolutely new rider friendly
Have you ever rode down the turnpike on a motorcycle? I drove a car down it in fourth gear doing 80 mph with my foot on the brake. It was a little scary.

I hate that front lights, but if Triumph was to make a Street Triple RR, I would be all on top of it.
Good question! Both are excellent all-rounders, but the Speed Twin's personality and effortless torque are better suited to my riding style.
I think the Motodemic single headlight conversion helps out the STriple a lot, although am RR version would indeed be ideal.
