That is a crazy good deal on those speakers, and stands. Thanks for the heads up. I am a detail freak, sounds like some speakers for me. I have a pair of the Debut 2.0 B6.2 speakers that I am currently using. Just love them. I have been thinking about upgrading, sounds like now is the time! Thanks for another great video. Hope you, and the family continue to feel better!

Be prepared. Both versions of the Debut are easy to love, they make a lot of things sound good. When I moved to the Unifi line I was rewarded with better quality and detail, but missed the fun of the Debut's. Sounds like the Adante's are another step in that direction so going from the Debut's to the Adante's may be shocking.

I have bought these speakers as my main ones a couple of years ago. They blew me away in the shop for 2 reasons: the absolutely clean, articulated bass never heard before, and their "holographic" soundstage. In one word, they sound really live. Give them VERY good clean and strong (current delivering) power, and they won't fail to amaze you. Only problem is the fact that their oustanding bass makes you want to rise the volume to realistic levels that may not be "optimal" if you have to deal with neighbors.

    • @bluemoonj
      @bluemoonj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Totally agree with your comment. When I push these speakers with Marantz receiver and later with Emotiva XPA Gen3, the bass is really weak, however the hologarphc soundstage is really a surprise. and two years later when I have drive it with Audio-gd master 3 power amplifer, these speakers finally shine with much much better bass, both bass extension and bass volume. It seems a good power amplifier is required to make it shine.

More kickstarted reviews, please!! All the other time-consuming deep-dive material is great to have for those that want more. Maybe, like me, others want a more traditional high-level review up top.
Also, good looking out for the sale pricing on these. That is a scorcher of a deal.

Mine just arrived at my doorstep this afternoon. The piano black finish is STUNNING! Slightly dry sounding right out of the box, but I'm already hearing them loosen up. I have a small listening room and these puppies already have plenty of mid & lower bass. I'm running them with a Prima Luna integrated Dialog Premium (EL34s) @ about 32 watts, this guy swings a lot of current. I also have a 200 W. McIntosh integrated I'm going hook it up with too. Can't wait to get them broke in. This a lot of fun! At this sale price, I think they're a smoking deal. A local dealer told me they are dropping the Elac brand (and discounting the stock on hand) because they plan to market their product thru big-box stores and his shop won't be able to compete on price.

I respect your opinion, knowledge and enthusiasm. Based on that I must emphasize that these speakers are "pigs" for power. You need a lot of current to make them sing. I own a pair. They are very good but not excellent. For the price, as Ron stated, yes they are worth it!...if you live in the USA (I'm a Canadian). I don't think they are all that holographic. The sound stage is good but not tremendous. The detail is also very good but not spectacular. The tweeter is detailed without inducing fatigue, as Ron accurately stated BUT somehow the top end is not quite "audiophile" caliber. The speakers sort of have a "plasticy" sound as you can even hear in demos. I actually have a pair listed on Canuck Audio Mart. I've been tempted to end the listing and pull them out and try them again, but unfortunately, as I've learned in life - If you dismissed something once, there's a reason for it....and your findings will be the same, and you will dismiss them again...so what's the point? This is the audio sickness full on lol! These are a very capable bookshelf speaker, that perform big! BUT I don't believe in overly dramatizing or hyping something that simply isn't deserving. Of course audio is very subjective. I don't meant to sound critical, but I am critical about sound. Thomas, I think you would enjoy these but you would also be very aware of their shortcomings. Best wishes!

It feels like there’s a concert going on in my bedroom. Totally recommend adding a sub as Paul McGowan from PS Audio suggests. I’m currently fueling these up with a Marantz PM-KI Ruby, And SA-KI.

  • @tawaunwilliams7002

I think part of the reason they aren't selling well, is the consensus is their bright and the bass isn't very extended and their not efficient hard to pair and they are very fussy. Not confusing the bass extension with punch which these certainly have. Another thing the bulk of there sales are from Music Direct, and before their price drop it was competing squarely with the Kef R3 and Wharfedale Linton which are both cheaper and more efficient. Now Music Direct has the new Wharfedale Evo 4.2 at $998 a pair and the Linton's are still cheaper with the stands, and the biggest Caveat all of these speakers are more forgiving and they can pair with a larger variety of gear. It's not to say that any of these speakers are better, it's just that the Andantes quirks are well documented, and their large quirks at that, I still think even at their reduced price they will be a tough sale out of the Music Direct stable. I must admit I like them and wouldn't mind having a pair..I think as you get later in you're review with them...all these things will come to light magic and the grimm, but I think you will help people who will be willing to go that extra mile to pull the magic out of them...

The original $2500 retail price. And what seems like a lack of review units sent out for review to TH-camrs and the non-magazine reviewers. The UB5s were only $500 - $349 now - and any independent reviewer worth their salt could spare the money to buy a pair for themselves.

    • @briansimmons5363
      @briansimmons5363 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@infn I get the price thing to an extent. A reviewer can acquire the product, review it and pop it on Craigslist taking a what, 10%-15% loss. Small cost for the review. Craigslist is hassle I know. I have a few times bought speakers on Craigslist, listen to them for a few weeks and sell them for the same price to someone else. Free experimentation.

    • @nostro1001
      @nostro1001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@briansimmons5363 Nope...I think it's mostly about the price. Across TH-cam for example most reviews are of the lower end and when it's not, it's somewhat usual. Often the reviewer has either bought the gear or borrowed from a friend.
Then of course there's the myriad of same gear getting reviewed because those manufacturers do send out demo units. Gets kinda boring hearing about the same speakers in numerous videos (Klipsch, Schiit etc).
I don't think a reviewer has the time to be buying and selling on the used market. They've got so much to do as it is. And don't forget many reviewers do more than just a vid here and there on TH-cam, such as wensites, magazines etc. It is time consuming.
      Cheers!

I just got the floorstanders (and center channel) from Music Direct. Like NRD stated, they were 50% off (their $5000) MSRP. An amazing deal. Despite excellent reviews from both Stereophile and The Absolute Sound, they received even less press than the bookshelves. The Absolute Sound review even mentioned this. "...the bookshelf-sized Adante has been a veritable rock star, the larger floorstanding model... ...has seen far less journalistic sunlight."
I think one of the reasons this speaker line was discontinued was design and size. Some customers probably didn't dig the looks. They are large. Much larger than they appear on video. They won't work in every room. Also the cabinet is of very good quality, but still, they are rather basic. Very square. The feet are cooler looking than the speakers themselves. Also, the matching center channel is a fat boy. A full 10" tall. That won't work on all consoles. Lastly, they don't look as cool with the grills. Not everybody can own speakers and use them with the grills off. Especially people with children. Whatever the reason(s), they are a steal.
This is just my theory and not based on imperial customer data.
(I have owned these speakers for less than 48 hours, and cannot yet offer a review. They are still quite tight and need time to break in.)
    Happy listening.

I have found that they pair better with meaty slightly warmer solid state amp with around 100W or so of power just like you said. I've found best results with my schiit aegir monoblocks with a freya tube preamp. Class D sounded a bit thin and boxey and a tad harsh. Depending on the person these speakers can sound a little harsh and bright with the wrong equipment. Seems like these need to be treated more like a $10k speaker vs a $1,500 speaker because of how revealing and capable they are. Also the break in time seemed to be significantly longer and more rewarding then most speakers I've tried.

Coming from Dynaudio sound, I almost regretted switching to them and almost sold them. In my opinion (you captured it on more the emotional level) here is what is happening on a technical level:
Before I begin I need to define some stuff (how I define them):
Phase -- the timing of the drivers. When the tweeter, mid, and mid-bass driver play do all the notes arrive at your ear at the same time?
Coupling - When two sound sources are combined together. In the context below the sum of the tweeter and mid or the sum of the port and mid-bass that is in a sealed enclosure that has a passive radiator
Chuffing: The puff of air you hear in a port when a bass note hits. This normally happens because the port is too small or the edges aren't rounded enough.
Ringing: When a bass note is played the driver still moves back and forth until it reaches center again. The better a speaker is at this the more accurate a bass note will be.
    Here we go:
    1. The mid and tweeter are in phase because the tweeter is in the middle of the mid instead of above or off to the side like most speakers. This causes the tweeter and mid to be almost exactly in phase (if the crossover was built correctly).
    2. The bass sounds better because the smaller mid-bass driver is coupled with the port into a passive radiator. Because of ths the bass is moved behind the tweeter/mid causing it to be more in phase with the mid/tweeter.
    3. There is no port noise/chuffing because of the port coupling inside of the box.
    4. There is no phase distortion from the port because the bass and port are coupled together and pushed into the passive radiator.
All that to say this (on the positive side):
You are hearing a speaker that is more in phase that most. The mid/sub/tweeter and working more together therefore your ears are not as fatigued when listening. My theory is that fatigue is caused by phase distortion + ringing. Most manufacturers do not measure phase and distortion because they do not believe it is important. I disagree. I believe that is why you use phrases like "Accurate", "Detailed", etc. in your review.
    Negatives:
My guess is that the reason you are hearing "Slow Bass" is because of ringing in the design. Because of the coupling of the port and low bass driver the passive radiator is still ringing once a note is played. That is just one tradeoff they had to make in the design. In my opinion it is a good trade-off because the overall sound is non-fatiguing and accurate.
All audio is a compromise. Although I have never heard the speakers I agree with what you had to say based on the design that I know of. If I didn't design speakers as a hobby I would consider getting a pair of these (or at least designing a pair of my own that follows this design).
    Thanks.

I was looking into the elac but bought some dynaudio c1 platinums instead. I recently upgraded to magico s1mk2 and these I would say destroy the adante. You could also buy over 12 pairs of adante this price.
At this price I'd buy the elac over the ls50. They produce better bass. These are a gateway drug just like the ls50.

@@Newrecordday2013 it would be awesome if you could get your hands on some magicos Ron maybe the S3mk2. It seemed like you really enjoyed the wilson sabrina. I think you would find the magicos remarkable as well.

Seemed promising, but they needed way more bass extension for that size. If they'd done that and made them active and fairly flat, I'd get a pair. Excellent dispersion.

Hi there, thanks for the comment! Whats a mess about their selection?

  • @davepastern

or, cos they were originally way overpriced and they're desperate for income, so they dropped them to a more realistic pricing level...

There is one song you have to play on demos :
    I'm your music
(I am your music and I am your song)
    I'm your song
(I am your music and I am your song)
Play me time and time again and make me strong
(Play me again 'cause you're making me strong)
Make me sing, make me sound
(You make me sing and you make me)
    _Adante, Adante_

Not saying there's anything wrong with the crown amp but... Those are more pro-amps than amp amps or audiophile amps... As in they are built for durability and long life and to power concert equipment no problem... Which uses lots of power continously... You may want to invest in a different amp... To upgrade the sound

@@bilguana11 That idk because I'm not trying to push a product so I'll just list a few... Schiit aegir and Vidar amps, Nad amps (they are class d but they use hypex ncore class d amp modules which are the best class d amp modules in the world), Parasound has some great stuff... All these are pricey-ish so I only say these as a suggestion in the future when it's time to upgrade... The most important thing is you enjoy the music but with these you'll really love it. You'll have less max volume available but way way way cleaner power and that'll make the sound bigger and more transparent and smoother.
