    As someone who's trying to moddle a very specific area from a very specific time, I'm a firm believer in rule 1; it's your layout run what you want! Don't listen to the haters! Yours looks great as well, progressing very nicely!

    Hahaha love it,its almost a footie chant that.... 'We'll run what we want,we'll run what we want, we are Budget Model Railways,we'll run what we want'!! I totally agree with you,at the end of the day its about having a bit of fun and for me its an escape from the real world! I also agree on the overbuilding of some of the layouts,most of the weight is in the baseboards.I will look into joining that club thingy :)

    I have that exact Jinty (from the 1977-1982 catalogue). I paid £22 on Ebay last year and to be honest I still feel like that was good value. It's a brilliant runner. Paid similar for a Hornby GWR 57xx pannier tank around the same time. Also a great runner.

      The real life locomotives at preserved railways don't always haul the correct rolling stock. This also annoys these people who want realism. You do see a BR blue diesel's or GWR locomotives hauling LNER teak carriages at the Severn Valley Railway on gala and normal running days.

    just realized you got it wrong, the 37 is in metals sector, not petroleum.
    the model itself was actually DCC and was released back in 2017 hence why the front coupling was probably missing

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure its that version, Lima went bust decades ago and were bought by Hornby who haven't released the 37?

      @ewanfawkes2708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      well I have a 2017 hornby mag with that exact model in it
      conspiracy time
      1. it might have just been hornby being lazy and using a pre existing l lima loco as an image
      2. somebody had a lima 37 and wanted sound for it so they bought this version and swapped the tops before selling it on.

    • @BudgetModelRailways

    About the wrong era comments, did those people ever see what combinations are usually running on museum lines these days?
    Of course you can nitpick in having only locomotives based in the region that you are modelling, but that can be quite a limitation and financial burden. I have seen people cut up €300 Drg class 50's because the pipe layout did not match the exact machine in the exact time scheme. For the readers who don't know the type: even if that locomotive was produced as a 'choose your own configuration' option you still would not have covered all possible variations.
    But maybe we continental modellers are a bit spoilt, you can put almost anything behind a DB 50 and still have a realistic consist

    "That's not the right coaches behind the right locomotive, blah, blah, blah"... So what ?
    Not everyone likes to be a pinpoint historian who likes to pick exactly which kind of rolling stock is accurate to the era X, the company Y and the place Z (I am this kind of bloke !). There is a wide room for fantasy layouts like yours !
    Anyway, as I had said it before, railway modelling always implies compromises, and the best compromise possible is the one that suits you, and no one else. Except for extreme accuracy addicts who makes their layout as an exact replica of an existing prototype (if it is possible : here, near Grenoble, the mountain line that goes to the city of Gap have PLM broad curves of 130-150m/142-164yd radius, that would be 1,71 to 1,97m/5ft 5in to 6ft 6in in OO gauge ! Mine would be 483mm/19in), there is always a part of compromise in ANY layout, no exception.
    So, why not on the rolling stock ? You can just say that you like the look of a GWR 56xx pulling three BR MkIII coaches in Intercity Swallow livery, there is no further need for justification.
    It reminds me something someone asked me years ago. I was also a pinpoint technician about photogtaphy, and someone asked me one day : "If someone shows you extremely good photographs and tells you that he understood nothing about photographic technique like you, not even knowing what a stop means, or what depth of field means, what would you answer him about that ?" I was straightforward and told my friend : "Just one thing : you are brilliant, you have understood what photography means".
    That is the same with your layout now.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind words. I have nothing against total accuracy, only when its pushed as the only acceptable way. As you correctly point out every layout has to have some compression. I saw a model of Pulborough station at one exhibition, to scale, very impressive but something like 6 mtrs long!

    • @bentullett6068
      @bentullett6068 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These people also moan at the real life preserved railways as well. I occasionally hear people complaining that the the wrong loco is hauling the incorrect rolling stock.
