    The low relief buildings against the back scene looked really effective I'm amazed how quickly your layouts come along, mine is taking ages but really enjoyable to do and I'm picking up loads of tips from your channel on the way.

    I enjoy your videos. They give me ideas on how arrangements will look. I especially liked your wall scape combined with low relief buildings you add depth to the scene. Again I enjoy trains. Keep on tracking. From the third coast in the new world!

    Your videos are amazing. I'm a beginner. Wanted to get started for so long but was put off by price. But after seeing your video I'm getting going. So many videos confused what I wanted but you make it simple and to keep to a budget price that looks amazing.

    What you've got there is suburban stations in an industrial cityscape. The platform canopy in the first shot is from the Superquick terminus station kit. Nice to see I'm not the only person who favours this brand and its adaptability. Looking forward to developments, as and when you find time.

    That's coming along quite nicely, Mike! I think we all go through 'dry spells' where we look at the layout and say "Meh." Eventually we get back into it. Model railroading does seem to be more of a late autumn/winter hobby. Spring and summer come along and we want to be outdoors more often, not to mention yard work and house repairs. We do what we can, when we can. It's more of a marathon than a sprint race.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All very true. In my case I try and find a small bit of time each day and a longer spell once a week as I find it therapeutic being creative. But life does tend to get in the way! Having got lots done I'm as we speak looking through books and the internet to find inspiration for the second station as I have hit a wall creative wise.

    You should connect the island platform that leads into the goods yard back onto the lower loop. So you can run around trains at the station in the island platform.

    The low relief transitioning to the flat backscene is great. I do the same with my buildings; I'll build them with a spot in mind but later on looking over a scene I'll think "I've got just the building for that spot" and re-plant it. I like the idea of elevating that station versus having it in the foreground; it provides a visual break in viewing the layout and for lack of a better term adds "texture" to the scene.
    Who makes the industrial city backscene behind the station?

    • @BudgetModelRailways

    Great video.
    Just a suggestion, where the upper level station is, you could still have the grass bank, with maybe a road bridge to get over the track as not all stations were built in the middle of towns and cities. Also you could fit a run round loop in the goods yard so you can do some shunting in the loft.
    Hope this helps

    Hey Budget Model Railways, I was thinking about trying to scratch-build a Streamlining Shroud for one of my bachmann 0-6-0 tender engines.
    I have almost no idea how to do it, but it sounded like the sort of cool thing you and your son would figure out for less than the cost of a fine lunch.

    Good evening gentlemen, and nice to see you again. I pick your idea of a small closed building for freight in a small station, it is prototypical as you said, and interesting for my layout options (small branch line).
    Anyway, I have to watch your video about making your own buildings, I think that buildings sold by retailers are far too large for my project, and I really need minimalist stations, all-in-ones which have a 15 x 30 feet footprint for the sole building in reality, the rank just above halt if you see what I mean.
    About your station placement, I have a personal preference for the one above the tracks on a broad bridge, I see it as more british-like architecture than a side-built building, but it is up to you for the final choice.
    Also thanks for showing us some tweaks ideas on Superquick buildings. I have an idea to wrote detective novels sets in an LMS station in 1946, and that would help me for the story if the station mistress had her house included in the station, like in your Superquick tweak... Also a good idea for one of my project.
    Keep on the good work on both your layout and your videos, it is always delightfull to see your works.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Being too big is a problem, especially the Metcalfe ones. Most country stations had the house integral to the station, or very close. During the war many stations had female station masters and signal men, if that helps.

  • @richardtarr2745
    @richardtarr2745 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You know, I really like the way you put the layouts together. You plan almost on the fly it seems but somehow it all just works. I guess it helps to have extensive knowledge of what goes where in real life but I thought the creation of the little wharf scene was inspired and it looked perfect. Perhaps it makes the buildings too high in the front thereby obscuring the stuff immediately behind but I'm sure you will sort it out. As always, thanks for the videos which are always fascinating - what's the other hobby? Cheers

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learnt on my last layout that obscuring some scenes behind the for ground with trees or buildings helps the track look like its in the landscape not on it? I'm a senior youth worker, I get to deal with all the staff problems for my sins, among other things.

    Those old SuperQuick kits last a long time. I have found resin buildings get faded and chipped. Good idea to stick to sectional track. I think the non-scenic section with the fiddle yard is questionable. Why not have a scenic fiddle yard disguised as a modelled marshalling yard? Interesting video explaining your decisions relating to the track plan and the scenic consequences. Thanks for uploading.
