As we can see, if you plant ALL YEAR ROUND, you should probably not let your old roots stay in place because they won't get the time they really need to decompose. Better to put them in an actual 'Compost pile' where they will break down and later you can feed them back to your beds. Obviously, roots do the same thing as finely shredded paper... they _ball up!_ Not what you want! It's your garden DIG THEM OUT if that's what you determine you need to do. I, for one, ain't mad at ya! Be blessed!
me too🤗 I didn't realize how inspiring it was to see a similar face in a similar urban environment doing what I want to do and will do - thanks for your videos
I’ve been watching your channel a couple weeks now. Thanks for being real with us. I love that there’s no mistakes in gardening only experiences 😂 you have taught me a lot thanks 😊
I just saw the video of your urban food garden on ‘Exploring Alternatives.’ Your garden is an inspiration and you have a new follower. We are in Southern Ontario and gradually working towards a similar setup. This year we’ve had a bumper crop of peaches, plums, tomatoes, garlic, parsley … I think you get the idea. I’ll certainly be dropping by to see what’s happening in your backyard in future!
Hi, love your video's! So nice to see a truthful story with all the good and (fortunately just some) bad on growing at home. Especially the positive way you do your vids. You're awesome, have a great week!
It's afternoon when I'm watching this video. I pulled my beans plants this morning along with the cucumber plants. I have more cucumber plants started and will get them into the garden soon.
Hi Asia. I just wanted to thank you for taking time to make videos to share with all of us. I look forward to your videos twice a week {and sometimes more often}
Love love love your videos. I especially enjoy your do what works for YOU in YOUR garden approach. I also have a yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia). I think they’re good luck.
I have so many questions! Ginger! I tried twice and they went upstairs, same with lemongrass, quite a few herbs and so many other things. I grow in pots. I am here for all the knowledge. I like how you pulled a harvest out of your pockets. I remember going through my pockets and I pulled out tomato seeds, dried beans, pepper and a tiny carrot which I ate. Lots of laughter and crazy looks.
I had one of those black and yellow narly looking spiders is my rose bed. I even named him Freddie. He got pretty big. I don't love spiders, but they really help with keeping the grasshoppers and crickets under control. One of my house guests thought they were being 'helpful' 😢 and killed my 'Freddie'. 🫤
I grow in containers and I turn my soil and refresh it. I pull out the old roots and root balls. I feel l Iike containers get so conpacted after a while. I feel like the new plants need room. They take too long to breakdown. Everyone's garden is different.
I'm so there with you regarding pulling up roots when I remove plants. Recently pulled up corn and found though they tend to be shallow rooted near stalks, smaller roots formed mats. After I removed all the corn roots and filled open areas and holes with compost, every single pepper planted near them in my raised bed began to flourish and produce buds. I plant my small 4x4 beds intensively and so there is never a fallow area. Like you, I don't have the luxury to allow roots to slowly decompose. Thank you for being you.
Good morning. I subscribed. Saw you on Exploring Alternatives and you are inspirational. Was impressed at not only how you taught yourself to successfully garden but what a great attitude you have. I subscribe to other homestead channels but really like the way you express yourself. Can't wait to view your other videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Asia, I just found you after watching Exploring Alternatives, loved that video! What I do with my tomato suckers is root them in water until you see them root in a cool shady spot, I do them in my screened in patio, then you sill see which ones root and which ones don't, hope this helps💞
Hello hon saw your video last night. I would suggest to add vermiculite for moisture plus it will retain your fertizer and perlite to make your dirt fluffy to help with compacted dirt.❤
I agree. Do what works for you. I leave those roots in until I'm gonna plant something, then they have to go. Or, I have chopped up a few, and left them.🌱
Oh, is that what we call watering? ❤😅😊 I'm hoping that you get a chance to go fishing and enjoy yourself. And what fish you don't use. You can use in your garden so excited for you. I love fishing.
Asia, on the asparagus, can you add soil and cover the crowns after they get established? Mine are finishing their 2 year and I have never added soil or compost. Should I?
Hello I just saw the video on Exploring Alternatives and was quite impressed with your work. i also have a small backyard garden, and subscribed to your channel right away. I am in zone 7a in Central Maryland, so we have a similar climate although your might be a tad warmer. Your garden is impressive and I shall watch more of your videos! So glad that I found you and your channel!
Thank you! I normally mulch the plants and cover with pvc and plastic. I didn’t do this last year but I will probably do it this year. Our winters aren’t extremely cold. We rarely hit single digits.
With your super busy schedule, do you have time to make tinctures or salves? I finally made tinctures, after 2 years of putting it off. They're 1 week in and have 6 more to go.
I have made tinctures and salves before. I’m going to work on it more in the winter when the garden isn’t as demanding. O cool! I really do want to do it more often!
I’m new to your channel!! Absolutely love ❤️ ❤ your garden 🥬!! Remember to shake out those root balls… there is still a lot of soil left inside. Thanks for sharing!😊
Asia gyrrrl...U talk'n abt go'n fishing. I know U are "Good People'❗️😊 Wished I could go too. Enjoy urself while play'n tug of war with the fishees❗️ By the way...the Garden is look'n good, especially with all the heat we were having❗️😄
Hi Asia, I luv your videos ( and your accent). I just used your code for 10% off on a food dehydrator, plan on using it for tomatoes and herbs. You are the best, keep doing what you do!
A lot of people ( not always real gardeners) stick to their rules a bit too much. Nothing beats experience and trying stuff out and finding what does work for you. So dig those root balls if it helps! 😋

Thank you, that makes sense. I like the ideal and I have plenty of room in my garden. Something that I will start doing as well.

If you can't allow your beds to "rest", it's best to pull old plants. I also break up compacted soil.
lol 1:51 a classic funny mama statement "oh that's what you call watering"
I thoroughly Love Watching your videos 😊❤
😮 you like fishing too your awesome great minds think alike. Another great video.
Your a beautiful young lady. Love your garden and videos.

Good afternoon Asia another beautiful day in the garden.
Hi! Thank you!
Rock dust is essential in re amending.
I had no idea how truly horrible that comfrey tea smelled until I made some myself my goodness that is the worst lol
I have several months i cant grow to let roots break dow but even still found some in spring i had to remove

Yes you can soil it compost. I add a layer of compost when I put the bed to sleep and/or in early spring. Sorry for the late response!

Hey girls ❤hey Asia ❤, thanks for sharing. Hopefully you got to go fishing 🎣 ❤
Hey! You’re welcome! I went the next day and loved every minute lol.
New sub..you are inspiring
Love your channel how do you prepare for winter?❤
Thank you! I normally mulch the plants and cover with pvc and plastic. I didn’t do this last year but I will probably do it this year. Our winters aren’t extremely cold. We rarely hit single digits.
Good morning hon ❤😊
How long have you had your asparagus and how long until you will see some spears?
The spears grow the first year but from my research they should be allowed to fern until the third year to allow the crowns to grow and establish.
With your super busy schedule, do you have time to make tinctures or salves? I finally made tinctures, after 2 years of putting it off. They're 1 week in and have 6 more to go.
I have made tinctures and salves before. I’m going to work on it more in the winter when the garden isn’t as demanding. O cool! I really do want to do it more often!
my asparagus wont do anything. I must be doing something wrong.
I dig my garden, you do what you think is best for your garden.
I pulled almost everything last week. I'm preparing for fall also will be transplanting my pepper plants into bags.
Hi Asia. I'm new to your channel. Can I ask where you actually live?; Love your channel
Hi 👋🏾! Welcome! I live in Virginia. Zone 7B. Awww thank you so much!
Hi Asia! Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy your time fishing 😊
It's always good to try different things to see what works for you. I would trench compost in that area and then pant in that area a few weeks later
I agree! Ok thank you for the suggestion!

What do use for fertilizer?
I use organic granulated fertilizer (Garden Tone), Fish Emulsions and Comfrey Tea. I’ve used bone meal and blood meal in the past as well.
@@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead thank you ♥️
Thank you i enjoyed it.
Hey Asia, do you know it's a video on TH-cam about you made by someone else?
Hey Ms. Ari! I did. It was published a very busy time for me so I didn’t have a chance to come back to you.
Hey Asia 🪴
Nice video 👍🏽
Thanks Sue!
Your Amazon wishlist link do not work 😮
I fixed it. Not sure what’s going on with the links today 🤣. Thank you!
Wait a minute, you said you got something from Vevor? Well, what was it? Oh and Broke Farmer's channel is gone.
Strike that, it's the link you provided for him that's broke.
I fixed the link. Thanks for the comment!
