"Here at FedEx, we're going to replace our old vehicles and planes with new ones that will emit less CO2, because the truck and plane industries are becoming more fuel efficient anyway, and we're going to claim those improvements as our own. And if that doesn't pan out, we've given a tax-deductible donation to a bunch of eggheads who can hopefully pull a technology rabbit out of their hat at the 11th hour. So can you stop bugging us now and let us go back to what we were doing anyway?"

I wonder how much double-accounting exists in the world's carbon-saving promises. Is the double accounting 2:1 like we see here, or 3:1, or more? With everyone claiming the carbon savings as their own, how do we know if we're really making any improvements at all?

You forgot to mention how meaningless setting a goal for 20 years from now is. 20 years isn't in the scope of "long term planning" for a 21st century corporation, it's the unimaginable future.

As a fellow FedEx ground contracted employee, we run ZERO electric vehicles at our terminal of 300+ trucks. We (as a company) care absolutely nothing about how much fuel we use, and there is no noticeable effort made to improve truck emissions.
I notice that we burn a good 10-20% of our fuel just idling, so a simple auto start-stpp system would make a huge difference, with little investment per truck. If FedEx isn't ready to force electric vehicles not their contractors, maybe consider hybrids. Yes they are more expensive, but surely the massive fuel savings over the 300k miles will make you for the price. Plus, hybrids would not necessarily require a charging infrastructure-simply getting contractors used to the idea of electric vehicles.
I'm obviously not an expert here, but just some observations that might be able to make a big difference-even if it's not full-blown-sustainable.

I was just listening to a podcast about how there's been exactly zero fulfillment of any of the donation/money pledges made by companies in response to BLM and related issues last year. Considering how great the attention on that was plus how much easier it is to simply donate to racial justice causes and we're STILL not seeing corporations follow through I have little hope for similar climate-related pledges with a 10 year plus deadline.

I work for a FedEx competitor, and although my employer has done some things that benefit the environment it has pretty much always been to save cost, most of their fleet of vehicles run on natural gas which is slightly less bad than regular gasoline or diesel, the location where I work isn't air conditioned(fairly standard for a warehouse), and they are working on replacing some of their old vehicles with electric vehicles. It is difficult to ship packages in an environmentaly friendly way, and until we use a carbon tax or something similar to make it more cost effective to be environmentaly friendly(ideally with a carbon tax you would subsidize low emmisions energy with the funds) we won't see real change. Most if not all major industries and companies will be like this, even many of the not for profits are structured and encentivised to be as cost efficient as possible. To put it simply since we don't have to pay for the true cost of our emmisions up front most of us aren't going to make the best choices and that is even more true for companies.

They did technically reduce emissions by about 40% according to their claim that they doubled the volume of packages.
They reduced their emissions from the projected amount that is. If they projected a doubling of volume, and assumed it would emit double the amount, then the 1 million ton increase is mathematically correct, but what they’re saying in the end is, “we could’ve emitted way more, but we cut costs on shipping and that also conveniently meant less emissions per package, so it’s okay that we increased overall emissions”

Please make videos about investors who are investing in such companies. They are also responsible for this. Ultimately profits from such lobbying will go these investors procket

Bro, I love your video editing skills. Just a few subtle additions here and there... Simple and effective, nothing extravagant. If I ever come up with content worth sharing, that's the style I'd like to emulate. Also, your scripts are excellent and thoroughly entertaining. Keep doing what you're doing!
