I was watching this to figure out how to get to the bulbs. Thank you. ... also, those wedge bulbs, you can usually get them out without having to get to the back (looks like you'd still have to for the speedo and gauges if the lights behind them are bad). Get a straight spark plug boot... the little end will go snuggly over the bulb... then just pull. They'll come out from the front and then you can just put new ones in the same way and just wiggle the boot off leaving the bulb. I work on pinball machines and they have the same style bulbs in some of the newer machines... that spark plug boot has saved me a LOT of frustration.

Yes. I would recommend to keep the original sockets. I used the aftermarket ones that came with the bulbs and half didn’t make good contact. So I had to redo it again.

Good stuff. Whether I agree or use it, information is always good stuff. My father was an electronics buff that had nothing but a GED. He was trying to teach me something one day and it got real. I was assuming as a teenager often does, to pat myself on the back, because we had nothing and was poor and I needed a boost. He said,"Son, you think you understand what I'm saying, but you're assumption is hindering your ability to learn. Always listen to people who give you tips or try to explain things to you that you are interested in, or you'll lose a lot of good stuff. Just be quiet and listen, and you'll get a lot of ignorance too, but you'll find that there's some everyday people who have been there and dine that and really know stuff that will make your life easier, and you'll fond that some of them are acting like you are right now. They know nothing, but to someone who knows nothing, it sounds good, Listen and learn anyway, but don't act on it unless you know that by what they say, that they are onto something and sometimes even information that you thought was bad information, will get you out of a ditch," Now I didn't like hearing that then, but later there was plenty of times that I tried everything and used someone's advice that I didn't think much about and had nothing to lose or was working on something I could replace if I had to and that tip was golden and after I tried that tip, I was able to move onto another issue and share that tip. We as a people can build and function well with knowledge and wisdom. I may never use that tip, but I just changed my upper engine parts and I'll be saving a rubber spark plug boot for that purpose or another. I'm a truck driver and moved from automotive to that and haven't had much of a chance to use a lot of fancy tools, but I went to a shift that allows me weekends off sometimes and had no need for a car earlier, but I knew if my health got worse, I'd need one. I didn't want to go in debt, so I bought an old 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis with 90,000 miles and it was neglected the last few years of its life. I may still go in debt as I heal and get use to high blood pressure, but I'll have this old car in tip top shape for any cross country trip I need to take either way. They're good cars

Great video! You might want to lighten that key ring, maybe keep the MGM keys on a separate ring. All that weight bouncing up and down will eventually trash your ignition switch.

I did. I have separate keys for my Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis now.

Has anyone replaced the air bag light on the LED dashboard assembly? My 2005 Grand Marquis Ultimate has a different gauge assembly.

I would like to change my fash to that size. I have the small radio slot and I'm trying to update mine. I haven't looked at it. Deep yet. My temp sensor was changed and pigtail and the temp gauge still doesn't work. Looks like the instrument cluster may be the culprit, so I'm debating on changing to the stick digital one

How did you remove the gear shift cord? Just pull it out?

    • @thepantherchannel2988

There are two tabs that hold it on the gauge cluster.

How often does a bad ground in the instrument cluster area happen? Trying to get to the ground which I suspect is causing my Marquis to lose battery and not start.

Sorry for the late response. It is a Pioneer AVH-X4800BS.
I got it at Best Buy back in 2016 when I bought the Grand Marquis. Then the radio was 300$, plus 400 for miscellaneous parts and installation.

what's the total quantity required to replace all of them ? Looks like 10 or 12 unless more behind the dials at the botto.

The best approach considering the age of the car and amount of work is to
      1. Replace all the bulbs
      2. Replace the panel dim switch
      3. Replace the headlight/exterior lamp switch
Both of left side of console.
I just replaced my blower motor switch.
I am replacing the two.lights it has
And then onto the instrument cluster.

@@richarddoherty8090 whatever you do, use the lightbulb holder that are on the vehicle right now. I bought lightbulbs + holders from ebay, and the holders were cheap and loose. My lights would start flickering. I had to do it over, swapping the new bulbs with the old holders.

Anyone watching this DO NOT REMOVE THE LENSE your risk bending the arms and the gear indicater.

The only reason i did it like this is it was 3 degrees outside and it failed safety because the check engine light was burned out. I disconnected the shifter cable from the needle. Nothing happened to it.

I would not have the power on to the panel either until you are ready to do a full lamp test. Might short everything out if you oops.

@@WizardofTechno you also should remove the gauge cluster as one piece first, rather than what he did and pull off the lens and especially while the key was on, very bad idea!
