I watched this while the rain kept me from working on my car and watched your 10m video to take my dash out. took me about 20m to get the actuator out but i noticed a wet spot on my passenger floor so i might have a heater core next. thanks for the helpful videos
I'm going to share my brilliance with you. I bought the shop manuals for a lincoln towncar 98 to 2002. I'm going to learn the car like the back of my hand. Then I'm going to always drive a panther platform vehicle because I'll be able to make the repairs because I'll know exactly how I did it before. Manufacturers change the models constantly doing this I'll always know how to fix my car and not have to learn new procedures. I'll also learn all the common failure points of my generation of car. I have enough things to learn i don't need any more foreign to me things to fix. Yes, borrow my wisdom I don't mind!!!
Screw the haters..this is the best video i have found for the blend door replacement....tried the airbag method and its was a complete waste of my day. Wish i found this video first. Great job..plz keep making these videos!!!!!
MarauderV8, excellent video, thank you for making it and sharing it with us. I just did this on a 2006 Grand Marquis this past weekend. I do have a few comments. • The 2006 did not have the U-shaped center support to drop the steering column onto when you remove the (4) 13 mm nuts. So I had to disconnect the steering shaft pinch bolt and separate the shafts so I could drop the steering with the dash (otherwise I would have strained the steering coupling). Looks like you were working on a 2004 Crown Vic (which has this support). • The 2006 has a swing arm support on the left front 13 mm steering shaft nut, so I removed the nut and dropped the support out of the way. • I was unable to leave the left side dash retaining nut loose and pivot the dash back. I had to remove the nut and I wound up supporting the dash on two plastic milk crates. The crates were placed where your feet normally go. You were more aggressive than I was, perhaps because you did it before, perhaps because you had giant forklifts buzzing around. I only had giant mosquitos buzzing around. Anyways, without the procedure, depth, and scope of the job provided by your video, I would not have tackled the job. Thank you again. Excellent work.
I was almost in tears watching this... As if I was in my back seat of my 04'LX... That's my car your dismantling! ! ! Clime control, dual electric seats, full controls on the steering wheel... and Freaking color! And the last Drive by Cable throttle! And Yes, the old style cable is the best! Timed my 2004 LX to my 2010 Interceptor and the LX had better times 0mph to 60mph and 100mph!
Can all the mounting screws holding the bond door be removed? Some videos show that only 2 of them can be reached and the ones closest to the front of the car can’t be reached, thus they just pry up the door and break off the screw mounting tabs on the door. Not the best but it seems to be the way that they get it done. Anyway, I hope you can figure out what I’m talking about😂. Thank you.
Do yourself a giant favor and do not break off the mounting tab(s) on the blend door actuator. There are two screws toward the rear of the car which can be removed once the dash removal provides access. Towards the front of the car, there is one screw and the other is a locating guide pin. I watched all of the TH-cam videos and folks stated that I would need everything from flexible extensions to a ratcheting 8 mm wrench to get this front screw out. If you check, MarauderV8 has another great video on removing the blend door actuator (after dash separation). th-cam.com/video/TamFR2KzILM/w-d-xo.html What I had to do was cut the insulation out of the way with a box cutter (just like he did, be very careful here not to cut wires) and I was able to remove the front screw with a 1/4" drive ratchet and short 8 mm socket. I had to take the insulation piece out and clear silicone it back in later. Be warned that if you try and break the tabs off the actuator, you may wind up busting a piece off the heater plenum. There are also a few videos where this happened. It is a PIA job, but can be done. I know because I did my share of cursing.
good video .. my Q. how to reach rear air line for back seat, it's blow air very weak? no one ever talks about this part as much as I searched on TH-cam, thank you.
I think it's always blown air weakly. The one thing that could be affecting it is your mode door. It's a door inside the HVAC box that directs air between the different vents (floor, dash, defrost) and has a weak plastic hinge. If it breaks or stops swinging all the way, it'll direct air through all of the vents at the same time, making it not blow as strong through any of them.
No, just the two center trim pieces that have the buttons on them (that are covering the 7mm screws for the piece that surrounds the instrument cluster) and then the piece I pulled out there. That's it!
Hello, how are you I want to replace a heater core for my Grand Marquis. Do you recommend any specific high quality heater core? And what is the name of the company
Most videos talk about removing the airbag to get to the blend door. Watching this video I can see how that’s a dumb idea. And will most likely not work. The blend door is too deep in there and up against the firewall. Breaking it off is just silly and incorrect. Take the time to drop the dash and your life is easy. Good video. But I would have liked to see the heater core removal. I mean don’t put it in the description if you didn’t have video evidence of you doing it.
I addressed that in the video - I didn't have the correct camera equipment that day to show the heater core removal, so I made another video that focuses on it.
Wow, i feel like I can do it now.. I was too intimidated to try to replace the blend doors (2006 LTC, which I’m told should be similar). But now I’m wondering if I should replace all *five* blend doors, once I open it up? Someone else did the diagnostics.
I haven't pulled an LTC dashboard, but the concept should be the same. The dashboard are built outside of the car then installed as one piece, so they are pretty easy to remove.
You don't need to pull the airbag out. I made another video specific to replacing the blend door and heater core if you want to see exactly what you need to remove.

Forget that Ill pay someone to replace the heater core......there is a reason why he is using a salvage vehicle, so he doesn't have to put it back together.
I did it in the junkyard because I didn't have a reason to pull my dashboard as I'd already replaced the heater core. Putting it back together is just as easy, but nobody is twisting your arm and forcing to do it yourself. If you want to pay someone else to do it then this video isn't for you.

this is ten times better than a book, no bs, thanks.

This is a great video. I appreciate the time you took to make it!
Whelp, I see what I will NOT be doing :)
Amazing video, thanks!

@@MarauderV8 people in the panther world are sleeping on your videos!!! You have a-lot of gems
Man back in the day we just manually moved the level to heat or Kool or red or blue.👀
Great video

14:20, but i still have to pull a lot of dash pieces out in order to remove an aftermarket radio right?

My crash plate feels like it’ll brack if I keep yanking on it I took 2 10mm screws out 93 Vic

Watched for over 20 minutes to get to the part I was waiting on (the blend door) and you skipped over it. Ugh! 😅
I made a video specifically for the heater core and blend door actuator, so check that one out for replacement!
@marauderv8 can you do a video for just the heater core
th-cam.com/video/TamFR2KzILM/w-d-xo.html
Im kind of confused.
Am i or am i not pulling the airbags out?
You don't need to pull the airbag out. I made another video specific to replacing the blend door and heater core if you want to see exactly what you need to remove.
Why do u want to change the blend door

fuck that. I just set my door for heat.
A benefit to many would be doing a blend door activator replacement-listening to you is not as helpful as watching it done 24:48
I made another video specific to replacing the blend door and heater core and it goes into more detail about the actual removal.
