Properly set up short throw kit that is... I mentioned that many well known Classic Mini guys hate these and will not install them because of the difficulty in getting them to work (shift and find gears!). Attention to detail along with patience and finesse result in so precise a shifter that one can hardly believe how sloppy it started out!

Enjoying the videos. I have a 1984 mini mayfair 1000 in Cornwall, and am planning on bringing the shift linkage to the interior of the car to improve the shifter feel as well as it also just looking really cool. I still have the 998 in it but a previous owner put a cam in it (I have no idea what it is but she's got a nice chop at idle) and they also put a hif44 on it while retaining the factory head. Needles to say it did not move. I ordered a 295 head and plan on swapping my hif44 for a hif38 then the car should drive great.
Keep up the video I enjoy watching them.

Welcome, Chung! As this is only your third day as a classic Mini owner, let me explain that your Mk 1 Mini has what's called a "remote" shifter which works very different than the one I show here. There is a short-shift kit for that style too, but we'll have to see the condition of the parts as I get into it. It absolutely will not work with worn out knuckles. THAT'S where most people get it wrong!
Of course, depending on what I find, converting yours to this style transmission and linkage is always an option....
