    The European equivalent of the America was not the Austin Princess (ADO71), but Austin 1100 (The ADO16).
    Though one luxury version of the ADO16 *was* called the Vanden Plas Princess, amongst a plethora of other names, the Princess as we know it, never came with an A-series engine.

      Stupidly, I gave away a 1300 Princess a few years ago. Silly really. In it was the engine and gearbox that I had fully overhauled. Virtually a Coppers S Power unit. Would cruise at 100 MPH with no trouble.

    The Mk 1 Mini came with a "magic wand" gear lever that connected to the gearbox directly - without any intermediate rods or levers. My 1965 Mk 1 had that arrangement.

    thanks for the help. I'll be changing the oil seal down there soon and this video helps!

    Appreciate the pointers! Definitely long overdue for my MK1...

      Glad it was helpful. Are you wanting to convert from a magic wand?

      My 1961 Mini, was an 850 with magic wand when I bought it in 1968. Soon after I put a 1098cc engine in with 12G295 head and remote change. Perhaps in the future I'll put in a rod change, I have a rod change gearbox in the garage.

    I like this, however, something I cannot find ANYTHING about, is the rod change selector box maintenance and refurbishment. Wher the rods go in and out, there are bushings? But are they replaceable or not? the bushings in back are not easy...and just in general, I see nothing about it, just removing it as a unit, putting it in as a unit. I would like to see a teardown and restore job on a unit. I have two that are 40+ years old and I have no idea if they're serviceable or not because of that "bushing" if there actually is one?

    Did you have any clearance issues with the exhaust? Thinking of doing that conversion as well to finally get rid of that magic wand:D

      @classicminidiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Converting to the rod change system will actually give you a ton more room down under the car. its just a little big around the base of the gear selector but I didn't have any issues with the exhaust.

    Did you move your push starter next to the gear stick? Any technical reason or just practical?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the original placement for mk1 floor starters. So short answer is no reason hahaha.

      @@classicminidiy I see! Mine's dash mounted now, always thought it was more forward by the magic wand fitting ;-)

      @@gegenmiketom were you thinking perhaps of the headlight dip switch which is floor mounted and close to the magic wand.

    What gear shift gaiter did you use?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a soft leather one. So it gives me a bit more flexibility with where it mounts.

  • @jimwade1416

    Can the connection between the rod and the gearbox be installed in a unaligned fashion which could cause difficulty in shifting into certain gears? My first gear is hard to get into, especially at a stop. First is also located at center and up, not left and up.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it definitely can, that most commonly is an issue when you have an earlier car with the round tunnel and a poor retrofit of a rod change gearbox. To me it sounds like your shifter housing might be askew or your mounting bracket could be fatigued or damaged. Have you jumped under the car to have a look at how it's mounted?

      Classic Mini DIY Thanks. I’m still having trouble getting the front end up onto jack stands. They keep moving, actually the car moves, when I lower it onto the stands to the point where they aren’t really where they are supposed to be on the subframe, or on the subframe at all. How about that video on how to get your Mini onto jack stands? Oh, and in your videos you usually have 2x4s or similar involved Why?

    • @jimwade1416
      @jimwade1416 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Classic Mini DIY I can tell you there is no round tunnel there. It’s more square. Floor replacement in the past? And the bracket that holds the shift mechanism looks custom.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll do a quick video if I have some time today for jacking up the mini. I only used those 2x4's when I had the subframes out because I needed to distribute the weight of the body onto the jack stands so it didnt bend the floor at all.

    Does the rod shift interfere with the starter button?!

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope the rod change actually makes considerably more room under the mini. So no issues there.
