Asheville resident here. The army corps of engineers is here to help our roads and such. They were blown away that we had little to no protections relying on a hurricane proof sentiment to our tourists and locals. They said they need to dredge the Swannanoa river 20 feet down and we need to build a wall where you saw this lady here tall enough so that if and when it floods again, the dredge will give us another twenty feet before it crests a wall. Many of our communities and townships have been wiped off the earth because lake view or river front was built into our way of life. Looking back on it, that makes perfect sense. How ignorant. It's awful here. Help is slowly but surely arriving and already here. So many volunteers cutting trees and transporting supplies or water. Civilians have astounded us with grace. Task forces, police, ems, rescue, and operators from all over the states and Canada are here helping with rescues and support. Heavy national Guard presence. Cell signal is spotty but better by day. This is the first day after Thursday that I've had solid service for more than 30 minutes. Power still off for hundreds of thousand. Myself included. 6 days now. Water isn't expected for 3-6 weeks. Without the army engineers and companies in neighboring towns or states, we could never rebuild our home. Many are affected by this hurricane. Asheville was just decimated. I am in Asheville, we have no power, water, and Wi-Fi. Months before the hurricane hit, in the spring, they have been doing the cloud seeding off and on, every time they do the clouds seeding, it will rain for at least two weeks, sometimes a month. The ground has been soaked already. The government cares so much about other countries problem except ours. They only want us to pay more taxes every year, but when disaster strikes like this, where is help for us? I am very disappointed! It’s a very sad situation. All I hear the radio keeps saying the help is on its way. I remember when other countries has had problems, the us army went there quickly and air dropped supplies, right now I feel that we are the third class citizens, and we don’t need president to visit here, all we need is water and food.

If you live in areas in states, You’re the reality of climate change is being costly denied by your elected officials. You will never have the kind of after the fact support that you need. People really are to start thinking about where you live, what the resources are for you in case of another warning about About anything to do with huge amount of water, Whether it’s rainstorm, tropical storm, or full-blown hurricane, That if you don’t leave early, you may not be as lucky next time. This is simply the earth evolving itself from the mess. We left it in and refused to try to change our behavior in how we treated our earth… It is not happy with us and it is going to throw us all kinds of natural disasters between now and 2050. Think carefully about where you wanna live and how you you gonna survive!

IT WAS AND IS CALLED SHEETZ ISLAND AND SHELL LAKE. WE ALL WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND THE MOUNTIAN MOTEL AT HIGHER GROUND. MET A LOT OF PEOPLE, WE WERE ALL AMERICAN NEIGHBORS, SHARING LOVING AND CARING FOR EACH OTHER. THERE WAS MILES OF CABLES ON THE MOUNTIAN ROADS WITH JUST ENOUGH ROOM TO PASS A CAR BY. MUD RIVER FLOODED THE CREEK BEHIND SHELL TRUCK STOP. THAT MODULAR RESTAURANT IS GONE. WE HAD TO DEFILE THE LAND OF A CHURCH TO DRIVE AROUND THE DOWNED LINES. WHAT I DIDNT UNDERSTAND WAS SO MANY PEOPLE STROLLING AROUND WITH THEIR DOGS AS RAW EXPOSED, DOWNED LINES ARE STRUNG ALL OVER THE PLACE. IT IS NOT TIME TO GO ON TOUR. IT IS TIME TO GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY AND CLEAN UP YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS! STOP SLINGING MUD ON YOUR TRUCKS TO LOOK COOL, AND GO HOUSE TO HOUSE AND CHECK IF YOUR NEIGHBORS OR AIR B&B PEOPLE ARE ALIVE!
SPECTRUM SEEMED TO HAVE SOME SERVICE. THEY NEED TO GET THE LOCAL 911 WORKING AND PHONES, CLEAR THE ROADS, THEN SECURE ALL POWER LINES. WHERE ARE THE CRISIS TEAMS TO SHOW AMERICAN POWER AND HANDLE THIS? FIRE LOST TRUCKS, STRANDED FROM STATIONS, HOSPITAL OUT OF POWER, NO TOILETS, BUT THEY HAD GAS AND COOKED SOME FOOD! GLAD WE DIDNT LISTEN TO STUPID POLITICIANS AND GET RID OF GAS! NO WAY TO CALL HOSPITAL. 911 DISPATCH WAS FROM SPARTANBURG SC. BUT HENDERSONVILLE IS OPERATIONAL AND THEIR BRAND NEW FIRE STATION HAS THE BEST CELLPHONE RECEPTION 5G 5 BARS. NON STOP EMERGENCY SIRENS AT HENDERSONVILLE, IS IT THE CRISIS HEADQUARTERS? IT SHOULD BE. AND FEMA, DID YOU GET THOSE TWO OFFICES OFF THAT TRAILER AT SHEETS? THAT MAN GOT STUCK. YOU CAN GO GET EM... THEM FIBER OPTIC BUILDINGS HEADED TO COLUMBIA SC... FEMA, WHERE ARE YOU? GO DO TO DOOR, IN PERSON WELLNESS CHECK YOUR NEIGHBORS! WHAT HOPE FOR THE HOMELESS? ASHEVILLE IS A SANCTUARY FOR PEOPLE IN RECOVERY. BLESS ASHEVILLE HEART. HOPE THEM RICH PEOPLE HELP, UP ON THAT MOUNTIAN WATCHING US DROWN, DRIVING AROUND IN THEIR FANCY CARS. THEY DONT EVEN HAVE A BUS STATION AT ASHEVILLE AND MAKE RIDESHARE PEOPLE WALK ALMOST HALF MILE TO BE PICKED UP IN TERRIBLE WEATHER. RICH PEOPLE OF ASHEVILLE... TIME TO SPEND ALL THAT MONEY YOU HOARDING. AND DONT RUN TO RALEIGH... LOL
2 firefighters due to a fallen tree. And people being dumb , not listening by evacuating.
Sometimes its not about dumb its about not able

Why are they dumb for not evacuating? Not everyone has the finances to up & flee.

Can Zelensky return a few billion $ for hurricane relief?
This devastation needs to be more talked about on national news
I have a close friend who lives there and I send a text to them but it couldn't be delivered :( I hope they are okay and any one else who may have been effected!
Honey, this is climate change… the sooner people realize these natural disasters are going to become a way of life.
My sister has a good friend who lives in Weaverville (north of Asheville). Has anyone seen what kind of shape Weaverville is in?
@SteveBrant55 hello, I live near weaverville!! I just got my power back on, one of the lucky few. Your friend is probably safe if they stayed home in Weaverville, as it was very mild there compared to Asheville. We still do not have cell phone signal, and it might be a while before it comes back on.
Apparently people dont get the old saying Turn around don't drown.
@@johnstickles6789 problem is, people got inundated right where they were. The rain waters were funneled down from the hills into the valley overwhelming folks there. This is tragic.
Is this along highway 26 ?

Need Starlink like FL Governor DeSantis got for us Floridians
Hey we just got service back, hopefully your family is ok but it’s bad
Where's Joe?
How is bearcreek road area ? My daughters friend bro is in that area??
A lot of people finally learning that global warming means more water from the glaciers. Kinda cool to think about what the rivers will look like and the reality surrounding the water ways 30 years from now
the earth went through an ice age. dont be a mindless follower your whole life. The same people who tell you oceans are rising have million dollar beach front properties
Looking for Tom and elzibeth and Sean Adkins
Verizon has cell coverage
That's great, if you can afford it.
It’s remarkable that whenever it’s windy storms or rain
And there’s damage in USA
If u look at the damage and debris
It’s mostly wood
Cheap houses
Instead of making them off bricks
Street after street is flattened
But look !!!!!!!
It’s ALL WOOD
Still sad though

werre these people warned to evaculate?

I thought cells work of the satellite
Iridiums do, not cell phones? Starlink service into cell phone providers?🧐🤨

So sad
So who sinned so bad that god did this?
Maybe this will send the woke hipsters who have destroyed Asheville back to Portland, Seattle, and San Fran as Asheville is rebuilt into the beautiful , low-crime mountain town that it used to be. We can only hope.
Amen. My family an I just moved from Asheville. We couldn't find an affordable place to live. It's so expensive now. Plus I'm tired of all the woke crap and liberal crap. Bring back the old Asheville
Exactly. My family and I just moved from Asheville 2 weeks ago. It's extremely expensive. We couldn't find an affordable place to live

Grey Eagle and Orange Peel okay?
@@ST-xg3gy Both gone. Water was over the rooftops in that area.
A car is not a boat. Jesus. What is wrong with people? Your engine and battery covered in water cannot operate. What do people not get?
for the rest of the country do not buy any used car that used to be on the east coast.
The water rose so fast people were taken away by it. That car in the video may have been washed downstream from miles upstream.
They can't get out no communication
Where is FEMA? come one joey
Unlike all the nuts on the right who laugh & chuckle when natural disasters hit CA or any democratic cities , I send my prayers to all affected by the devastating aftermath from Helene ...
@@eyeswideopen8115 I’ve been thinking the same,
Whenever I see a car flooded, I think "geez someone should have moved it" after all it is mobile
If you drive in water and get stuck, stalled, or trapped then you are an idiot to begin with.
There’s always one dumb@## posting something like this. It’s not JUST PEOPLE DRIVING affected by this, but you’re far too stupid to understand that. If you’ve ever been trapped and cut off due to quickly rising flood waters, you might learn what this is like. You think they’re out for a joyride? I’m sure you’d be the very first to have a tree land on your head…..it’s called karma. Get some empathy, doofus.
Thanks for the judgmental commentary. Very helpful. Some folks were attempting to rescue their vehicles from areas which rapidly flooded. Foolish at times but understandable when you live in an autophilic (car loving) society.
and your car will have so many problems later on. They are cars, not boats.

Do you feel better while doing nothing ?

Yet, higher ground is sadly flooding.

Mother nature wants its mountains back. Stop developing in areas you know will flood. Water run off from roads ,roof tops driveways ,parking lots has got to go somewhere. Given the soil is soaked and can not handle any more rain water does not help either. 😢
My family has been up there since the 1700's. I don't think they are worried about your opinion.
@kathymc234 I hope your family is safe. They have seen our mountains first hand being over developed. More development results in more flooding that's a fact.
Where is the cat lady? Oh yes! Talking selfies!
