You are very thorough and explain exactly what the issue is. I like it. Because that weep channel issue is something I’d never think to look at until I had water pouring into my window
I had something similar at a place I lived at. The windows were pretty new and installed in the dry season. When the wet season came it was okay until there was heavy rain. Then it make a lake inside my home. Turns out the factory hadn't drilled through some of the centers of the frames. I didn't realize there was a barrier in the middle of the window itself. So water trickled into the inner trough, filled up the inner side of the frame and overflowed the trough. Drilling from the weep hole through that middle divider fixed it. Remember to put eyes on though folks and not just go drilling away thinking my problem is the same as your problem. Lol
It seems like the material wasn't molded right and the person who welded the vinyl didn't do his or her checks before sending the frame. For the welds breaking it takes a lot to actually break one of those weld for those patios but it could have been broke before it was installed or on of the builders were a bit to rough with the windows.
I wonder if drilling weep holes in the front part of the window frame should help water escape. That’s odd. I’ve never seen residential windows that don’t have weep holes.
Hey man i like your videos. I keep various arthropods if you want to keep out critters use a polyester felt, yarn if it a small weep hole, to fill the weep hole and the capillary action of the felt will draw the water through the hole leaving leaf cutter bees and scorpions no home.
Mine were closed with stucco and only one window had a screen for the channel. Nothing a flathead couldn’t fix. I just put tape over the holes inside the track during the summer when scorpions and bugs are at their most invasive time.
I've watched alot of your videos;; It's nice to see that your actually pointing out the manufacturer...it's not so much the builder.. But shitty products being installed
We rented a new build villa in Abu Dhabi. It rarely rains here but that year we had a few storms. We had no weep channels so the water POURED into the house. My husband drilled holes in the rain...
Great job in exposing shoddy build quality from most of the builders you inspect.👏 Any chance you could call out a few of the good guys in the industry should you run across them? I've learned a lot just watching how thorough you are.
I like old houses better. Given they’ve had basic maintenance throughout the years, the were built to be a home and to last a lifetime. Shortcuts I think are a developer issue. How can we cut costs, type of thing.
Honestly impressed with how you even caught that. How long does it take for you to inspect a home? With how many things you come across it must take a long time!
Not to mention over time I can only imagine built up water possibly attracting mosquitoes larvae. ✌🏽 Friend I don’t even own my own home but you can bet if I ever do I’m calling someone like yourself to come out and inspect it. Appreciate what ya do and for those who don’t like what he’s doing (contractors & subs) he’s basically holding up a certain standard that should be met across the board which in turn only helps the builder’s reputation. ✌🏽🇺🇸🙏
Speaking of upside down windows. A Years ago i worked for a good friend that is a builder basically to do the final punch list, inspect during the build. He calls me up and says to check on a house that he had a new crew working on. Every window on the back side of the house was installed upside down. They had cut the house wrap back from the openings. One window was crushed on the corner, looked like it had been dropped. We were in a building boom from a automotive manufacturer coming in. He was a pretty new builder so getting a good crew was a challenge. Good crews were already working.
I remember when I bought my home- that year we had the biggest storm we’ve had - my wife calls me to tell me it was flooding in our home from the windows. Found all the drain holes for windows were stuccoed over. So while it was raining I had to remove all the window glass- and runs- and found that it was full of stucco, nails, old batteries, fast food wrappers- had to do that to 17 windows during a storm- contractor disappeared
I have something like that on my shower door frame. When I first bought the place, I didn't know what the holes were for so I blocked them. Yep, got water all over the floor. Learned pretty quick not to block those.
I am not going to do standard windows. I am looking at a type of casement window that is as big as a 36 inch door. Each one of these doors will be for the bathrooms and bedrooms and a 8 foot by 8 foot glass door with sidelights and a transom will be the main window in to the living area. The street side of the house will have solid steel doors and no glass. Only the east, west and south sides which will be fenced in will have glass doors. The house is being build around these doors to provide the best light for the area while not putting in too much glass.
I have water that pools in some of my windows, and I don’t have those holes, it never overflows. The window has a seal running around it completely, in the water pools on the exterior side of that until I open the window. The only real issue it causes is buildup of material and mold. I just clean with diluted bleach once every couple months to keep the mold out.
Those worlds breaking are either from people beating the shit out of the door frame to get it in and installed or shitty welds, but I’m gonna go with the shotty craftsmanship and say that it’s probably people beating the shit out of the door frame to get it in
Most rough openings are framed 1/2" to 1" bigger than the window no need to frame them any smaller unless you have someone on your crew who can't read prints or a tape measure.
*When I was building my place my "father" tried telling me to silicone the weep holes, I was like dude is that why your house is falling apart? HAHAHAH*
😂 I have a window that was put in backwards and one was put in without hooking up the mechanism that allows the window to raise. Another one leaked air, it was caulked shut😂. At least mine was a foreclosure. I learned alot from working on it, but its over 100 and still going.
What's with the window corners being cut on a 45? This is asking for trouble. In Australia ours don't have that and are screwed not welded, they never crack.
I love the videos, man. Question: How do you spell the name of those channels for water? "Wheat" is what I'm hearing but I'd love to find out the actual spelling. Thanks :)
I remember doing the electrical on a fairly massive ocean front home in florida and the builder had installed the windows correctly (maybe?) And the weep holes were constantly whistling from the wind and the homeownet didnt like it and so the builder caulked them closed then on the final the inspector said that was a no-no so they had to go around and dig all thw caulk out and the windows started whistling again 😂 i dont know if they ever found a solution tomake everyone happy
Yeah, my mom had windows put in by a professional and all the weed channels are cock shot and she said that the guy says it’s no big deal. You don’t need those L O LL O L.
I have been in the residential home construction and handyman business for over 20 years. I can't recall a single window corner ever broken, let alone 3 or 4 in a single house. What the heck is going on in Arizona? There has got to be a root cause in how they are installed. I learned early on to leave a gap above so the framing doesn't settle and warp the window frame. Are they shiming the sides to keep the frames plumb and secure? You need to caulk and foam the gaps to airseal anyway. I would blame the window builder for not staying on top of the warranty repairs. Shame on the builders for allowing egregious disregard for quality. Being in the Northwest, seeing the lack of sealing between the window and the stucco hurts my soul. Just invites rot.
Ok, I’ve installed several doors in my home and replaced the windows.. none of the corners are broken.. How are they breaking these corners? I don’t think I was extremely gentle during installation so how rough are these guys?
Curious if those doors and windows don’t have wheat channels, does the temperature ever drop low enough for that water to freeze because the expansion and contraction could cause the plastic to break at Wakepoint
I've never living all over seen windows with weep holes as I've never had a closed window fill up with liquid.. except direct spray from a hose or power washer... these are just shifty windows
Btw to help with scorpions get cockroach boxes the scorpions love them crawl inside stick to glue in box we controlled them with these we have them around the sink and stove and Evey corner of house it doesn't help with ones crawling on ceiling use your long handle vacuum them off the ceiling and they glow green under a purple light in dark just want to help the uninformed or not prepared our house is on a scorpion nest and each year we've had less we had our broken tile roof repaired they had to come out 3 times B4 roof was RIGHT SO BE CAREFUL with important life challenging decisions
Maybe I'm missing something. Why would you need weep channels on windows? Is that something in the mid-west? I haven't seen that on windows on the East Coast.
How did they mess up wee channels? Do some windows not have them?! Also what causes all these weld breaks? Poor handling, incorrect instillation, or poor quality manufacturing?
I’ve installed huge windows and not broken the welds! What are these contractors doing?! I watch video after video of yours and broken welds seem to be the standard not the exception! What gives?! 😳🙄😤
Why are the contractors that don't know how to install doors and windows still allowed to build homes. Seems like every one you check has broken corners on windows and doors.
You are very thorough and explain exactly what the issue is. I like it. Because that weep channel issue is something I’d never think to look at until I had water pouring into my window
It’s expensive to be cheap remember that one folks
It's cheap to check your work. Remember that one builders...
Good job! I like your shorts where you explain why something is a problem. Do you ever do post fix follow ups on your inspections?
I do, I'm limited on TH-cam. Facebook will give you the most and best follow ups.
We will do follow up interviews next year on TH-cam.
@@cyfyhomeinspections Shame - TH-cam supports longer videos just fine. Not going onto FB for anything.
@@cyfyhomeinspections Explain how TH-cam limits videos?
Let's not forget that if moisture hangs up it's almost certain that you'll have a mold problem. 😵

As a glazier, everytime I see an active window with no drain holes I give it drain holes. Some times it's the easy shit that fixes the issue

Worked in the industry my whole life as a plumber but always paying attention thanks for the education
I wonder if drilling weep holes in the front part of the window frame should help water escape. That’s odd. I’ve never seen residential windows that don’t have weep holes.
Maybe installed upside down some how?
I've heard of that happening.
These inspectors are a blessing to society. Making sure it's built right before you buy it. Got to appreciate these guys.

Brillo pad works best. Still Allows for water to flow. Most of the time you could pull him out, rent some off. Put him back in.

Have you ever been on the building end of things ? Sincere question , love your Videos
never knew that could be an issue. But also have never had windows that would hold water like that.
Would love to see long detailed inspection videos if you're so inclined to make them 👌🙏

The Maine state bird (mosquito) loves ANY standing water.

As a previous residential window cleaner I can say, I experienced a lot of this. Old and new homes.
You are doing a good job.
I have something like that on my shower door frame. When I first bought the place, I didn't know what the holes were for so I blocked them. Yep, got water all over the floor. Learned pretty quick not to block those.
bro got me checking broken windows and doors everywhere I go now 👍
I think I die a little each time there's a broken weld.
In Michigan we have to clean ladybugs and other insects out of the weep channels.

Always be sure your window water reservoir is topped-up. Keeps the bearings lubed and most pests can’t cross the threshold. …Darn Moses ants…

*When I was building my place my "father" tried telling me to silicone the weep holes, I was like dude is that why your house is falling apart? HAHAHAH*
Why is it that these new homes have a bunch of broken welds?
Why are the cracks in the window frames so common? Is it from lessor quality windows or sloppy installation methods.
😂 I have a window that was put in backwards and one was put in without hooking up the mechanism that allows the window to raise. Another one leaked air, it was caulked shut😂. At least mine was a foreclosure. I learned alot from working on it, but its over 100 and still going.

Standing water will also encourage mold growth.

i dont want to live anywhere that a freakin SCORPION can crawl through a tiny little weep channel and into my house!! wtf, thats a thing?!? NO
Plus termites love stucco and water.
If scorpions are a problem then maybe rain isn't that big a deal

Ok, I’ve installed several doors in my home and replaced the windows.. none of the corners are broken.. How are they breaking these corners? I don’t think I was extremely gentle during installation so how rough are these guys?
Will you make a shirt that says " Welds are Broken " ?
Water or scorpions, take your pick.
Or screened and no water no scorpions.
Welds are broken in the window that has the water in it too.
No, it won’t go inside the home, when the Lower Lip is to the outside.
Unless its halfway full and someone shuts the window. Then Maybe.
But I get it.
I wonder if the stucco guys covered the weep holes ?
Ask for Andersen windows instead of cheap vinyl replacement type windows. Makes me wonder why these homes cost 500k plus dollars.
Curious if those doors and windows don’t have wheat channels, does the temperature ever drop low enough for that water to freeze because the expansion and contraction could cause the plastic to break at Wakepoint
Are these homes near Glendale and El Mirage? Looks just like my sister's house

for this reason you need broken welds
Those door manufacturers seem garbage if all their doors break so fast!😂😂😂

I would like to know the manufacturer of the windows.
Why are the welds always broken in the corner like that?
Isn't that something the manufacturer should have to do?
HOW do they keep breaking the welds?!😮😮😮
I have a question for you why do your installers break all the wells because when I install windows I make sure they fit
This shit is crazy.
New build homes make me sad.
Why do the windows corner welds break so often?
I’ve installed huge windows and not broken the welds! What are these contractors doing?! I watch video after video of yours and broken welds seem to be the standard not the exception! What gives?! 😳🙄😤
I gotta ask. Why are all the welds broken?
And if that water freezes it's a whole lot worse
Is that outer wall supposed to look like that??
It seems that vinyl windows are complete shit!
Are the welds bad? You show so many broken welds...? Is it purely the carelessness of builders, or is it also poor quality materials?
Vinyl windows are absolute crap! They need to be banned
Why are the contractors that don't know how to install doors and windows still allowed to build homes. Seems like every one you check has broken corners on windows and doors.
