    1 - it is better to storm enemy bases on foot, since in this case they will not immediately start shooting at you from all guns
    2 - rockets are not very effective due to the long flight time, they are better to provoke enemies from afar
    3 - shotgun loads work well against an oncoming horde, even in this game
    4 - purple spheres with antimatter work very well against the base; they literally destroy entire zones with turrets. By the way, they can work well in quick raids, while flying, shoot at the nearest photon cannon, fly off and land

    the implosion cannon shells are the best weapon for Icarus when clearing a planet, the splash damage is insane, and it forces them away.

    Hi Nilaus, so as i was cleaning my sector, i did what you did: (i play on default difficulty - this is my first DSP playthrough)destroy relay station to starve Dark fog, but instead of instantly landing and clearing it out, i went to shoot down all relay stations in whole system. then deal with the hive, and then i'm actually leaving ground bases for themselves until i will be building on that planet. In general time needed to kill hive is almost enoough for ground bases to deplete their resources so when you finally come to kill them, it's only leftover units, all buildings are powered off. this helps to keep ground units loss count very low :)

    When you destroy the relay stations, the bases can't get any more energy. But they have a bit of a storage, so all you need to do is wait like 1 or 2 minutes after clearing the relay stations, then you should not get any raids at all and the laser turrets will be disabled. Smaller bases take longer to run out, because they have a lower passive power consumption.

      Yes, kill the relay station and wait a few minutes for them to power down. Same goes for hives... After you wipe out all relays, they still have some matter stored so you just need to whittle them down to exhaust their storage... Take over all planets with shields or missiles to kill the relays as they land since it takes matter to build relays.

  • @HelicopterShark
    @HelicopterShark 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    While space combat needs improvement you don't need to do fly bys. While in combat mode you can hold ctrl and a 2d grid appears, you can then click somewhere on the grid to send your space units there, it can be hard to know they are going to the right spot but eventually they will engage the hive, move them away a bit to pull the units away from the turrets. Control the plane the 2d grid is on by moving Icarus' pitch and yaw.
    Needs a rts style view hopefully it gets better.

    To solve the issue with your own energy, it is better to make a mini production of batteries based on dark fog. There are 72 giga joules and, with full proliferation, a 2300% rate of energy recovery. Then there will be no drawdown.

  • @JathTech

    Easiest way to kill the bases is to literally land right in the center of them. You take the least amount of damage since your drones are all around you taking aggro, and the towers and spawners are dying fast. Even early on, i cleaned out planetary bases this way. Fighting them from long range causes a lot more damage to icarus because the drones lag behind you and the bases target you directly, meanwhile keeping your drones occupied with constant spawns.

    the way I did my last couple system that worked pretty well:
    1. Warp to each planet and allow your fleet to wipe out the relays from orbit which will trigger space attacks but start to starve out both the ground and space dark swarm.
    2. Use ground drones to clear and establish Polar Hub + missiles targeting upper air + 1 shield to protect the hub. Repeat for each planet.
    After this is done you actually have the system effectively under control. Both ground and space swarms will start to starve without relays. First time I cleared a planet and started pulling resources off it before dealing with other planets, but you can easily clear planets with drones + towers for missiles. I didn't even bother with BABs. Next system i went straight for space swarms. It just takes a while to break through the defenses but since you have the planets under control you can easily go resupply or top up energy if you are doing this before white research.
    I'm looking forward to the next updates and more space stuff. We really need the space hives to be more menacing and better tools to fight them and intercepting seeds.

    Now that you're at the point of testing the limits of the Dark Fog, going from the original missile blueprint to this, the drone push, how do you think they should be balanced?
    Right now it seems more-or-less like a tower defense mobile game, which I think is fine given that it's a secondary or tertiary mechanic, but what would be a fare challenge? Stronger hive sort of like how factorio does it? It seems the game is really at it's limits with the quantity, so I can't think of any other ideas. Maybe a Death Star sort of Hive, where it only begins development once you've unlocked interstellar logistics, that can disregard all defenses, and requires the player to engage directly, or with a very high level of automated defense.
    As always, love the videos, this is by far my favorite recent series.
    Stack 2 seems fun to play, but this is far more entertaining to watch.

  • @chemie7037

    I feel like the relay thing exposes a flaw in a game mechanic. Killing relays is fast and easy and not only makes clearing planets trivial (essentially eliminating the entire role of the bases) but essentially makes the space hive inert (denying matter) without any real difficulty (I guess you cleared the hive for entertainment purposes but the hive can be ignored with no relays on planets you care about). So not sure why we need space platforms etc given ability to inert the hive via relay destruction. This means after the first few hours of the game, there is very little DF mechanics in the game apart from a few 15 min burst while you clear a planet for use. Note, I find missiles still easier vs a large ground fleet for clearing the planet post relays, especially at earlier research levels.

    • @pedromiguelsilva2077
      @pedromiguelsilva2077 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is probably intended, targeting supply lines is basic warfare. You then have the choice of waiting for then to run out of resources, or strike them to speed it up.
      The only balancing might be if the dark fog started attacking your interstellar drones, but that would be too annoying, after all, this is a factory game, not a RTS.
      Also, it does seem like more is planned for space combat, and when that gets added, the space hives will also be made stronger.

    100% my preferred way to clear a planet (or even system) late game. I don't even bother building a base until after I've cleared the entire planet.
    If you are looking to clear an entire system, I like to clear all the relay stations from orbit first, and then land to start clearing out a planet. They are often completely unpowered by the time you return. Yes, hives will rebuild new bases, but they waste resources on new relay stations and those relay stations are built and deployed slowly.

    If power is an issue as you do the attack, couldn't you drop a geothermal once the first place is cleared and stack some wireless power towers to try to charge yourself? Maybe that wouldn't be very much power, or it'd be destroyed too fast to be practical. Not sure, just a thought 🤷

      @@ИгрокИгроков-в3ы a stars radiation is always the same. It doesnt matter if you collect 100% radiation in a small or big radius sphere, all that matters is that you are collecting 100%. You dont get more radiation from a bigger sphere. However what you could argue is, that the energy harvesting may get less efficient on higher radiation levels, resulting in more efficient harvesting and therefor more energy gained from a bigger sphere. If you now also assume, that the energy that cannot be harvested just passes through, you get an explanation on why multispheres are working (more specifically you could assume that the sphere material can only absorb a certain level of radiation per surface area and that the rest just passes through unhindered to get the exact behaviour from the game).

    How is this even a question? Of coarse you can clear a planet with only drones. This is all I ever use. Takes about 5 mins to clear out a max infested planet. If you fly in tight circles around the enemy base, they very rarely land a shot, and by doing so all your drones swarm the buildings wiping them out very fast.
