The fact that the banditos burned the truck kind of undermines the theory that the surfers were killed because the banditos were after the truck. What are they covering-up here?
They burned it because they were trying to destroy Evidence.
Hard to say. Cartel will do this at random. I lived remote near a cartel compound. They never targeted me. Had a crappy jeep. Some hunter was out there with a nice car and gear, they got him, found his vehicle ditched at the border.
My guess would be they just wanted to steal the truck and the surfers put up a fight. If killing wasn't planned, they probably burned the truck to hide evidence.
Agree.
Life is so cheap there that a botched carjacking robbery etc, to get rid of witnesses etc, pow, will off you in a heartbeat….same where I grew up in South Africa.
Mexico + remote area = no
Not correct. You should know the area a little though.

Some Americans think this is a war zone lol. There is certainly dangers here. Just be respectful and don’t flash expensive stuff and it would be fine.
Let me confirm what the (hastily concocted) story appears to be. The three surfers were killed execution-style and the bodies dumped in a well two kilometers away from their burned out campsite, all for their truck tires, which were then stolen. By implication the perpetrators jacked the truck up to remove each wheel, removed the tires from each rim, and then replaced the empty rims back onto the truck before setting it ablaze? Is that what the story is? Fishy.
Seems ligit...
they dont talk about the 4th body found in the house close to the well, that body has been there a week longer, i think they found the body and then were executedfor finding it.
The 4th guy has some nice hubcaps

They could have just taken the truck.

Mexico needs to know this is really bad for tourism.
I live in a small and beautiful country in the West Indies. We are very appreciative of the tourists who come here. If tourists heed the sound advice that is given by the Board of Tourism, and the Hotel Association, they can enjoy a lovely vacation and return home safely. Nevertheless, I am terribly sorry for these three men who have died and their families. Crime happens everywhere, and we have to be careful while at home and abroad. I have been down to Mexico more than 200 times. I have always loved it and the people there. Unfortunately, currently, it is unsafe. Even the Dept. of Defense has forbidden active military from taking leisure travel down there without specific authorization. In addition, the U.S. State Department has an active country travel advisory for Mexico. (The entire advisory notification warning can be read on their website, by anyone.) People should always check the country they are visiting PRIOR to traveling out of the U.S.
The active travel advisory reads -
Mexico Country Summary: Violent crime - such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery - is widespread and common in Mexico. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Mexico, as travel by U.S. government employees to certain areas is prohibited or restricted. In many states, local emergency services are limited outside the state capital or major cities.
U.S. citizens are advised to adhere to restrictions on U.S. government employee travel. State-specific restrictions are included in the individual state advisories.
There are also a number of countries with advisories for traveling to the USA because it is objectively unsafe.
This could easily have happened in the US. We have one of the highest rates of gun violence in the developed world. #Contextmatters
I think Americans think Mexico is safer than elementary school.
@@bearswithglasses But in the U.S., the 2nd Amendment allows citizens to do what folks in other nations are forbidden to do--return fire.
Back in the late 90s, I was required to go to Mexico City for a couple of weeks to help with software installation for one of our users. We were right on the edge of the "Pink" zone. We were given many cautions about gypsy cabs and other things. I was very glad when I was able to go home. I would never, ever go back. When the plane touched down in LA, I could finally relax and know it was over.
@@bearswithglasseswith your ridiculous logic you might as well go visit Syria or Iraq because hell bad things happen in the USA also so just ignore the danger you mean that type of context???

Mexico is a beautiful country. I went to Yucatán alone and met up with a tour. I was in Merida known as fairly safe but you have to be aware of your surroundings and heed warnings - that goes for most countries in the world. Such a senseless tragedy I feel deeply for the families and friends. Such a terrible loss.
I've lived in Rosarito Beach for seven years now. It was very stupid for those three guys to go to an isolated area to surf and camp when there is an excellent surf area just fifteen miles south of the border at the San Antonio exit with numerous short term rentals, restaurants, even a surf shop, AND a police station just 200 meters from the beach. In Mexico it is against the law to carry a gun so the criminals who carry guns know that they always have the upper hand when it comes to committing crimes and law enforcement isn't nearby.
Having travelled extensively in Mex myself, this was their mistake. They should have stayed in the city, then made day trips to the surf locations, returning to the city in the afternoon.
The attorney general of Mexico has the same credibility as the Hamas health ministry.
Mexico doesn't tolerate this kind of atrocity; I'm sure the guilty parties will be sentenced to at least 3 years of incarceration.
Is that all?😮

But it Mexico, if you go off to a place where NOBODY is around for miles, you are putting yourself in a very deadly situation. I was dumb enough to do this in 1986 outside of Cabo San Lucas. We did not run into any bandits and the Federales did not stop us. We were just lucky.
