My dad used to work for law enforcement in Mexico in the 90s, and he never wants me to go because of how unsafe it is. I feel truly blessed to live in the 🇺🇸.

On the way back about 100 miles from the U.S. boarder, was stopped at a makeshift checkpoint along the road by a handful of federal military guys with automatic weapons. Made me strip down naked and threatened to put me in jail unless I paid them $300. Forced to sign over traveler checks or go to jail for 3 months. The city of Ensenada is relatively safe but don’t venture off to places out of the city it’s not safe for the people living here, its not safe for women and it’s not safe for tourists. The unspoken rule is don’t come down here like you have money , don’t come here looking for drugs and don’t look at anybody wrong , if you don’t mess with anybody nothing happens. Mexican here: it isn’t safe. My husband & I had visited Rocky Point in July of 2019. It went well. Decided to take our 20 yr old daughter w/us a few months later in September, 2019…..our Air bnb didn’t let us check in until 3. We decided to kill time & check out town homes that were for sale across the street. HUGE mistake. That same night a woman knocked on our door (9pm) asking if the loose dog was ours. My husband said NO & had noticed ppl in a mini van waiting for her not far from our driveway. She kept trying to get my husband to come outside. He slammed the door on her. Needless to say none of us slept. We packed our shi+ & left as soon as the border was open. We messaged the owner & told her of the incident. She just said we could have gone to the home at the top of the garage because she was “home” or to get her security station that would patrol 24/7. Yeah, that would’ve been a real smart choice. 🖕don’t go. If you do, trust no one, STAY with a group, don’t go out at night.
