    And the start of the end of the 1960s - much like the end of the Mid-60s, 1966: Jim Reeves 'Distant Drums', Snatter's 'Strangers In The Night', the Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' etc - was all .. erm Smooch, Waltz, and Pop. The 1960s .. as it was. Lovely stuff.

    In those days, San Francisco's Tenderloin District was clean and night life was relatively low key. "The Last Waltz" was a very popular "Closing TIme" song played on the juke boxes.

    Not a Beatles fan!
    Love Frank not a Nancy fan. Cute song tho.
    Bee Gees the best Trio that ever walked the planet. Nobody can hold a candle to them. Period!
    Loved the Monkees. So entertaining. Great music.
    Englebert great singer. Extremely underrated!
    P. H. Whiter shade of pale. Fantastic song!

    It just goes to show how much the mums and dad’s generation were still buying records then, especially if it had a strong melody, I was 20-21 in 67 and there was no way you would consider buying Humperdinck records, not when you had music like Arnold Laine or See Emily Play by Pink Floyd as an example. There were so much good progressive music coming out in 67, you were spoilt for choice.

    Bei den Bee Gees hätte ich gerne gewusst, wie sie als 5-Mann Band ohne Orchester Brimborium geklungen hätten

  • @BleedBNG
    @BleedBNG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The song San Francisco gave the Bee Gees the idea for Massachusetts. There were TONS of big hits in '67 but Light My Fire should have been included over at least one of Humperdincks songs. The biggest selling record for '67 was LuLus To Sir With Love. Sold over 8million records.

  • @ralfbodemann1542
    @ralfbodemann1542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    So this was the legendary Summer of Love mirrored in the UK charts. No "Light My Fire" by the Doors, no Jefferson Airplane, just Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco" on #3. Only one Beatles anthem "All You Need Is Love" made it just to #10 - in the year when they released their "Sergeant Pepper" album. But who dominated the Summer of Love with three songs on #5, #2, and #1? - Engelbert the Hump. The truth hurts.

    • @johnd8892
      @johnd8892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Englebert had the advantage of appealing to a wide age range of singles buyers , especially those with money compared to those who could only afford to listen to the radio

    • @racketman2u
      @racketman2u 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      said truth being that it's often the pop songs that endure, and to be honest I'd still rather listen to the 5th Dimension sing about their beautiful balloon than anything by the Doors. Popularity is fickle, though; look at Seals and Croft, huge a couple of years later , yet like the 5th Dimension, all but forgotten now.

    Procol Harrum the song of the 60s imo.. Absolutely loved it and still do. Scott Mackenzie ushered in the flower power era.. Humperxink etc just not cool. Migrated towards Cream, Chicken Shack, etc the more progressive bands then..
