Video game music is great, for those of us who won’t play them anymore, but whose minds are probably forever moulded by them. Thanks for putting this together
6:49:48 This kind of blending catchy sadness and direness is what gives me life and a big part of why I want to play many Japanese games from this era.
Awesome collection, thank you for posting this! I've lately been trying to discover more great soundtracks and artists from this era, so this is perfect!
I use this vid for getting so many personal creative task accomplished now. It’s honestly that cool. Seriously, Japan always got the better end of the spectrum with quality game music. U.S.A. and Europe as well as the U.K. were great way back in the day too. But these days nothing comes this close.
Well, competition was tough between games companies in Japan, teams grew fast and bigger, they each tried to produce the best products and hired people with excellent musical education/training to score their games, whereras in Europe as long as you knew how to write a little tune you could be the audio guy on a project. Of course things have changed since, but I think this may be why old Japanese game music sounds just better in general than what was made here
@@Pimpeaux On a great day off I’ll blast this while practicing computer programming or illustrating comics (best music to do those task to). I guess I could be the other 10% or at least 5. I’ve got stacks of official chip tune based albums and a keytar to rehearse upon. But I don’t doubt you. Your taste is awesome!!! Keep the appreciation alive fellow ally.
vgm on the X68000 was so dynamic. even though it makes sense as to why, it’s a shame modern vgm is so compressed and work less as stand alone pieces of art
It's a great collection, thank you! Even better would be to use recordings of the actual games, as (like you mentioned) in some cases the reconstructed MDX music is an approximation of the original. Also, some soundtracks have astonishing MT-32/SC-55/CM-64 versions that are much, much better than their (still excellent) FM counterparts 🙂
nah instead of the YM2612 it should have had the YM2610 or YM2610B with all the extra PCM channels available. The YM2151 was getting old by this point...
Thank you for this awesome collection of retro music! Is there a way to download this playlist as a collection of separate songs? I would love to listen to it offline.
Hi all, would anyone know what the letters mean on the top like K, offset , d, I know these are notes being played in the keyboard, but I don't understand those letters and offset is. ty
Noticing mention of MDXWin in the description, but there don't seem to be any live links to get that anywhere anymore. Anyone know if it's still maintained? Ideally I'd want a Linux port of it, as I'm liking the aesthetics here.
Its too late retro systems are very popular now and willl only get more expensive soon you won't even be able to afford a game boy you should have gotten one in 2005.
I'm just gonna make a list of time stamps of stuff I recognize, cuz there's no full list of everything and I can't read Japanese. This will be edited over time. 5:37:06 After Burner theme Songs I don't know but they sound cool and I would go back to: 5:42:54 5:51:36
The Sharp X68000 is a japanese PC from the late 80's to the early 90's. Most Japanese PCs and Arcades had FM synth sound chips to create music and sound effects, the Sega Genesis has 2 sound chips, one of them is also FM. That's why you found the sound similar. Differences exist in those FM chips like how many sounds can generate simultaneously, etc.
Now that I realize most modern J-style game music has abandoned this unique and awesome feel. They’re still the best when compared everywhere else. But nothing gets past this.
This player plays Sword of Lxsor Skyhigh Voyage (and all other songs) worse and different at 2:13:45 (like it was for msx2?) than the (original?) version played here at 3:51 (warning high sound volume): th-cam.com/video/C-CmfagVKwE/w-d-xo.html Why does this x68k player not play original sound?
That Buster music at min 43~ love.... anyway to get the music from a game using emulator XM6 Pro-68k? I've tried to record with fraps but it seems fraps doesn't recognize the emulator window...

Aaaaand I've just noticed that TH-cam has erroneously added markup to titles, and it won't let me edit my own comment to fix it. Very cool.
wow! tremendous effort! Thank you
Ty so much!
Incredible music. I genuinely had never heard anything from the X68000 until today, can't believe I was missing out on all of this great VGM.
Please never delete this video
I've been thinking the same damn thing since watching it for the past 3 hours for the first time.
Blame copyright, most of the videos are getting deleted because of it
@@asmarloki8553 agreed. copyright just keeps getting stupider and stupider

Quality tracks here, wow! Never had a Sharp X68000 back in the day, guess I was missing out.
What a wonderful collection of songs. I envy anyone who owns a X68000 especially if they owned one back in the late 80s.
6:49:48 This kind of blending catchy sadness and direness is what gives me life and a big part of why I want to play many Japanese games from this era.
Excellent list of soundtracks!
Yeah! I have my own collection of the MDXs - most of them are done just fantastic! Part of them was from the Sega Mega Drive games (surprise).
What awesome sound mate, great video and content, keep it up ! Subbed !

Of course things have changed since, but I think this may be why old Japanese game music sounds just better in general than what was made here
Very nice. Thank you!
awesome~ thank you

2:16:37 that song sounds like the opening of an anime
vgm on the X68000 was so dynamic. even though it makes sense as to why, it’s a shame modern vgm is so compressed and work less as stand alone pieces of art

Sounds like the Sega Megadrive should've been, Imagine scrimping out of $5 per machine for that sound chip over the 2512!
Wait, THIS was almost the MD's sound chip!? What happened, why didn't this happen!?
Is this really true? Just a curiosity.
You mean that the YM2151 should be in the MD and not the YM2612?🤔
nah instead of the YM2612 it should have had the YM2610 or YM2610B with all the extra PCM channels available. The YM2151 was getting old by this point...
Good thing they did, because I prefer the Mega Drive sound.
How can it all be hits? But it is!

Been trying to find a reasonably priced X68000 for years now. The search continues.
You might have a better chance if you just go to Japan and look for one or maybe yahoo auctions
Its too late retro systems are very popular now and willl only get more expensive soon you won't even be able to afford a game boy you should have gotten one in 2005.

I don't know what a X68000 is, but it sounds like SEGA Genesis/Megadrive music.
