i really wanted the big muff pedal it was my dream pedal because john used that pedal and i fell in love with the shape and sound, and i wish i could get the pedal and i will take care of it with all my heart.
Yesterday i bought an ds-2 to rock all the frusciante solos, and after watching this video i realized that i want that big muff too. I left only 4 cents in my bank account, so it would be great to get it from you guys. Really nice frusciante tone video. Keep up!
Is it weird that the big muff sounds better to me in almost every solo? I never had a fuzzbox before and im so excited of having a chance to win one. John Frusciante is a really talented guitarist and one of the reasons why i started playing in the first place. Keep on playing every1 especially during corona!
I think one of the most important things to consider is the type of big muff. I used to have one of those used in the video (US reissue) and eventually bought a Ram's Head clone. Those two are basically different pedals. Frusciante have used several types of big muffs, and personally I find the US reissue to be the hardest to make good sounds from. It easily becomes too smooth and "buzzy" at the same time. If you use a US reissue I think it's very important to stack it with some other gain pedal or amp gain.
Those comparisons are really awesome and interesting because now all of us who try to understand how John is playing at certain point, when you need a fuzzier tone, or a brighter tone for interpreting and re enact solos we can express our own self. By using those to pedals who are at this point some masterpieces for a Frusciante tone approach. Vigi I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing with us ( but also with me ) your passion because it's mine too and it gets bigger and bigger in my daily life. I'm watching your video right now and with my classic vibe 60's Strat and playing some Frusciante riffs and solos. You are one who really inspire me because you have that approach of learnkin how to understand and feel the tone and not just simply copy what john has on his pedal board. Nice video Vigi, I'm not going to participate since I already have a DS-2 and a Nano Big Muff. Good luck to everyone. That being said, I would like to share what I think so far on this subject. I just got the Nano Muff last Christmas so I haven't figure everything out about it but your video gives me an excellent point of comparison. I think the combination of the 2 pedals works very well. Most of the time if I don't like the ds-2 sound I jump on the muff to get a thicker sound and I must say it works well almost everytime. The Strip my mind solo is a good example. In other case I find the ds-2 is good on its own and I barely used the muff without the ds-2.

I have a little cousin super fan of RHCP he's just starting out playing guitar. Would love to give him a Big Muff as he's first pedal so he can start nailing some frusciante tone's
the thing is, big muff is perfect on the third string 12 fret maximum. On everything higher than that you don’t feel the bigmuffness 🙂 or the fuzz tone, if you will. Big muff perfectly works with DS-2 on all the fretboard though

If you do get one, run it after the DS-2 so when it sounds brighter when combined with the DS-2, depending on how you set it, running the big muff before the DS-2 and combined together gives you a synthy sound almost like a fuzzrite synthy sound.
Well I havent had had much expirence with fuz pedals yet and would very much like to, playing guitar for 2 years now and takeing it very seriosly, so would be happy to win ;)

I've been listening to RHCP since i was 6 (I'm 17 now), and john inspired me to first pick up the guitar. i don't have any pedals right now and would love to have a pedal that john used. i would play it live and record some tunes with it. I would want the big muff as I am planning to record my first ep near the end of March for a school project. I want it to be a experimental ep with synth guitar and strange noises. Like some of the jf solo stuff and Omar Rodriguez Lopez stuff. I feel like fuzz can be very well used in experimental albums and I have so many ideas for songs with fuzz but I don’t have one. This is a fantastic video! Just what I was looking for in trying to play Frusciante’s Stadium Arcadian tone. What would be your recommendation for Especially in Michigan? The power chords in the chorus seem almost like the Big Muff and DS2 both.
i just saw a wet sand solo cover where the guy was using an overdrive into a fuzzrite circuit (plus delay) and into a marshall tube amp and it sounded exactly like the solo itself, however i'm not so sure he used the fuzzrite there because of how clear and super-compressed it is. he's clearly stacking some pedals but it made me reconsider which it might be and whether the fuzzrite is there. would be interesting to see a video from you about the fuzzrite and where it's used in recordings/live. i can definitely hear it on dani california power chord part, and in the solo of warlocks. but i'm sure it's all over the place on stadium arcadium. thanks again for the great content

i know i'm late to the party but sometimes to me it sounds like he has the mxr micro amp before the muff in minor thing for example and some other songs when he doesn't jump from the ds2 to his solo tone, i think that when he goes from his crunch to a solo tone he adds the mxr before the big muff
Hi Vigi... I'm having an issue with my ds2.... When I turn on my ds2 it sounds full but when I turn on my big muff + ds2 the sound is bigger then when I turn off my big muff, the ds2 sounds small and less full. Does this happen to you?
i think it sounds like a fuzz pedal on those recordings. i like to use fuzz on slow and precise leads like that as i think that fuzz has a strange ability to be super distorted to the point where it almost sounds clean whereas distortion pedals always sound really crazy, more like an overdrive pedal. i think calling them fuzz pedals is a little misleading as distortion pedals usually produce a more dramatic effect
when i play strip my mind solo i usually use a distortion pedal and when i play the wet sand solo i always use a fuzz pedal. the distortion pedal is clearly used on strip my mind in my opinion because of how screamy it gets. but the wet sand solo sounds better with a fuzz in my opinion and that's probably what he used
@@knowledgeisthepower1 i believe he would be stacking with the ds2 also since there's a nice mid boost, but it could also be the fuzzrite or something. also there's SO much gain on the tone that he just has to be stacking

John's not using a stock, off the shelf Big Muff on those studio tones fellas. He's using a vintage V5 op amp version.
This is the pedal that I'm really looking for, because the sound is so beautiful. i wish i could get this pedal. Hopefully
The big muff really has a big sound, but I catch that big muff has more noise, and the DS-2 more armonics, it depends on how you wanna sound

i just saw a wet sand solo cover where the guy was using an overdrive into a fuzzrite circuit (plus delay) and into a marshall tube amp and it sounded exactly like the solo itself, however i'm not so sure he used the fuzzrite there because of how clear and super-compressed it is. he's clearly stacking some pedals but it made me reconsider which it might be and whether the fuzzrite is there. would be interesting to see a video from you about the fuzzrite and where it's used in recordings/live. i can definitely hear it on dani california power chord part, and in the solo of warlocks. but i'm sure it's all over the place on stadium arcadium. thanks again for the great content

i know i'm late to the party but sometimes to me it sounds like he has the mxr micro amp before the muff in minor thing for example and some other songs when he doesn't jump from the ds2 to his solo tone, i think that when he goes from his crunch to a solo tone he adds the mxr before the big muff

I always like stacking the DS2 with another pedal be it a out right fuzz pedal or a big muff style, i can't say its one i use on its own
Hi Vigi... I'm having an issue with my ds2.... When I turn on my ds2 it sounds full but when I turn on my big muff + ds2 the sound is bigger then when I turn off my big muff, the ds2 sounds small and less full. Does this happen to you?
i think it sounds like a fuzz pedal on those recordings. i like to use fuzz on slow and precise leads like that as i think that fuzz has a strange ability to be super distorted to the point where it almost sounds clean whereas distortion pedals always sound really crazy, more like an overdrive pedal. i think calling them fuzz pedals is a little misleading as distortion pedals usually produce a more dramatic effect

when i play strip my mind solo i usually use a distortion pedal and when i play the wet sand solo i always use a fuzz pedal. the distortion pedal is clearly used on strip my mind in my opinion because of how screamy it gets. but the wet sand solo sounds better with a fuzz in my opinion and that's probably what he used

@@knowledgeisthepower1 i believe he would be stacking with the ds2 also since there's a nice mid boost, but it could also be the fuzzrite or something. also there's SO much gain on the tone that he just has to be stacking
