I needed this but it's so hard when you've met a potential husband and fallen in love and then after that comes desire. We have such a strong connection we both feel but are not ready to just run off and marry yet. I know Gods word says it's better to marry than to burn but I don't want to rushes into marriage neither into sin...please pray for us to nail our flesh to the cross and stay pure of heart mind and all.
I know, It is hard. I think you need to focus on the "out of proportion part" of lust in these situation. I dont believe in the only-holding-hands-before-marriage-doctrine. But trying to keep the expression of desires in proportion to were you stand in your relationship. If you feel you need more time before marriage, your sexual desires should also get adapted to that. Otherwise it becomes lust and will disorders/overtake your thought and actions. Dont let sexual desires take the lead role, Both before and in marriage

It is urgent that you genuinely repent, that means coming into 100% agreement with God about what is good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. It's a black and white matter, so don't let it be any kind of gray area. When you recognize certain thoughts that come to you are sinful, you need to be fighting against them. When they come, you must not agree with them and take them as a basis for any fantasies. Instead, call out to God immediately and tell Him you don't want to keep having such thoughts. And also do your best to focus on something else. You can memorize some scriptures that have to do with the purity of your heart precisely, and recall them in those moments when thoughts come to tempt you to entertain sinful imaginations. These thoughts may not go away right away but you must not give up. When you stand against them, that's your cross that you are taking up daily to be a follower of Jesus (Luke 9:23). And if you're following Jesus, He won't lead you into sin. Jesus will completely deliver you, but you have to do your part which is how you show God that you love Him above all (John 14:15) and want to follow his ways with all your heart. And by faith, you need to see the day of your deliverance, where you will just look back and realize you haven't been having these kinds of thoughts, and give praise to God! Peace to you!
Lust is a very dangerous characteristic it can be uncontrollable so to the point that an individual can do painful horrible things to others. It is also a product of the imagination! If we focus on something which is out of character long enough, it can take us down and once acted upon can be very detrimental to that individual and those individuals he/she imposes themselves upon. If the act is consensual then there is no problem depending on the situation. If there are innocent people involved then there can be a serious problem. Self control is always a key factor in being safe and healthy. There are various types of lusts not just sexual. Drugs, power, control and so on are all pretty much driven by various types of lusts. One has to take the time to think about one's desires before acting upon them. It could at times be the difference between life and death also. I have learned to just walk away from anything or anyone that I'm in doubt of.

I'm going to ask for prayer from anyone here who would like to pray for me. I struggle with lust tremendously. I've quit drinking, smoking, lying, I eat right, I started praying every day, and I live a life with integrity as best as I can. I know I'm going to sin in my mind. Humans are hopeless in that sense. We know this, that's why Jesus had to save us. But I don't want to live IN sin anymore. I hate it. I havent been with a woman in over 3 years by choice. The problem is pornography and fantasy are TOO easily accessible. Please pray God takes that desire to sin from me in Jesus name
Isn't only sexual perversion, but also ties with Luxury, meaning the craving of material possessions, status quo, because most of the times, both are connected.

The word translated as "woman" is also the same word for "wife" which fits better with the not coveting your neighbours wife law. Sin is breaking the Laws of God (somewhere in the NT). I also believe it was Paul who said if you cannot contain (your lust?) then it is better to marry. Better to marry, not a requirement. I think it's speaking more about lusting after married women, not single women you might marry.
I am struggling deeply with lust and porn addiction :( Please pray for me brothers and sisters 🙏 I don't know what to do, it seems too hard for me to overcome my desires. They feel natural and I always give in to feelings of pleasure because I think it will make me happy or at least distract me for a while. I have built up a strong habit and now it feels like I am stuck in this pattern of sin, conviction, confession, repentance, temptation and then falling into sin again. Everytime I sin in this way, I am convicted in my heart but I still can't overcome my desires in the moment :( How can I overcome this sin for good brothers and sisters? magicpotion8, you have to make a determined effort if you want to change. You can't keep doing the same things and expect prayers to suddenly change everything. You have to understand what God wants you to do and do it. God wants you to repent, and it is urgent. Who says you have another month or another 3 months or even another week to come clean with God? Repentance is the basis for forgiveness of sins already committed. But not only that, victory over the power of sin and freedom from sin, which is what salvation in Jesus is about (Romans 6:5-7, 14, 18). You just can't be double-minded as you approach God (James 4:8), because then your _repentance_ will never be genuine. Repentance means coming into 100% agreement with God about what is good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. Don't call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). If you're still doing anything that you know doesn't please God, then you are not showing to God that you want to quit it for good, and that's absolutely necessary. Now, if you hate the things you know God hates (all sins), which would show genuine repentance, then you will turn away from them. If you regret having sinned against God, then you will stop sinning against God. Jesus will completely deliver you, but you have to do your part. I pray you are willing to do your part and repent to get on the same page with God about everything in your life. You must start submitting to God and resisting the devil (James 4:7-8). You will then see results.

Im glad you have overcomed it.👏🏽 the way the world is at the moment especially with social media its almost impossible for us to avoid it. Its hard on teenager like myself experiencing puberty and these unwanted temptations. Furthermore, its terrifying how natural and casual society makes it seem. I was just baptized a few weeks ago and i really planned to change but i kept repeating the same sin and constantly repenting for my mistakes. If this helped you I’m sure it can help me as well.

I'm getting wrecked with obsessive fears about my salvation all day long the voices in my head say I'm not believing. it's gotten worse over the last year. I dont know how to fight it because when I try its saying none of this matters because you need to be saved first. so I cry out to be saved and then it's like I'm trying to be saved by my own words. like trying to make it happen. I'm sick.... I damaged my brain from psyche meds and I've been tapering for 2 years I dont control my thoughts and emotions they have all projected into Gods charachter. I have become so so guilty and ashamed of every thought I have I say NO. I believe. but the inner thoughts say I'm not trusting in Christ's finished work but trusting in myself.... so I ask forgiveness but these thoughts happen all day long. please pray for me. I dont want to manipulate. or twist I need help. I cry out all day. JESUS help me. I BELIEVE! you saved me 2 years ago. I feel like I've grown in legalism and looking at self. lord do not let me be destroyed
Chris, I feel your pain brother. It sounds like you know that by focusing your thoughts on yourself, your own mind, and your ability to "believe", you're reversing the Gospel and making it about your work, instead of about Christ's work on your behalf. Our enemy loves to mix us up like that. Rather than trying to control your obsessive thoughts directly, why not work on filling your mind with Gospel truth? This is how every Christian grows and develops... by the renewing of their mind. When the obsessive thoughts come, speak over them by reading scripture out loud to yourself... Psalm 25 is a good start. Also, try stating out loud, as many scriptural promises and truths as you can recall. Make it a regular, daily practice. Think about what God has done, what he is doing now, and what will ultimately be. Throughout this practice, keep your focus on him and not on you. Your heavenly father is kind and patient. Surely he has seen your struggle. He has brought you this far, he will not abandon you. For the sake of his own name, he will finish the work he has started in you. I'm praying for you.

Hi Chris, it’s been two years since you wrote this comment, and i hope you’re doing fine! I feel your pain as well. When I read this I was like woAh, this guy was (a little bit now is) me. I really really tried to force my salvation down my throat and I me really anxious of my salvation. I agree a lot with what Brian said, I mean that’s what I did- focus on God and not on yourself, fill yourself up with the Gospel truth with the renewing of your mind:) oh, and this is a little something that I wrote to myself during quiet time, I hope it could be useful to you as well: You should stop denying you have doubts, there’s nothing you can hide from God. If you want to look good(that I have a lot of faith) in front of God, you should stop it, because, well, there isn’t anything you can do to win His favour. If you were, you are trying to find favour with Him. Which doesn’t happen, right, because God’s Grace is entirely free and there isn’t anything you can do to win it! And our good, gracious God has given that to you. Hey Chris! Like you, I also always sort of don’t really acknowledge this part and instead, I trust in my own work instead: God is good and gracious. And He is understanding! Yknow, there’s this song called “truth be told” by Matthew West, the whole song is great, but there’s a line that particularly stuck with me: “being honest is the only way to fix it”. At this point in time, I also feel like I still struggle with things and I like to push them down in hopes that God doesn’t see it. But then I realised, from my personal experience, being honest with God is the best way, and we should always trust in the final works of Christ. (Wonderful work of paying for our forgiveness and salvation) If we have doubts, we have doubts. We must acknowledge and know our problem before we can be led by God to treat it, right? Place your mind off yourself, focus on God instead (look at Brian’s earlier comment). Really, don’t hide from God, don’t be afraid to tell God how you feel. Ask God for help, to show you the way for certain things you can’t grasp, He’s always there. Don’t let anything hinder you from receiving the Grace God has intended for you. When You feel lust happening ask God to help you with it in the moment. He will. You can do this out loud or in your head. I’ve done this and immediately felt it decrease.

Nothing is impossible with God. His grace is sufficient for all situations. But you need to have a discipline about what you keep your focus on. Sexual desire doesn't have to be something that controls your life even as a single person. So, its not in itself sinful, but if purity of heart and self-control are lacking, then sin will come out of that.
This is tough. If a single man never lusted would he have a desire to marry? Is there a difference between sexual attraction and lust? It was sexual desire for a woman that was a large portion of my motivation to marry my current wife. Now, in marriage, I have clear boundaries for my sexual desires but before marriage are we meant to rid ourselves of all sexual interest in members of the other sex? If so, how would we fulfill the cultural mandate to be fruitful and multiply?
Lust is a synonymous of the word desire, actually. We can have good or evil desires. Desiring another man's wife to have her as one's own is an evil desire. If the context is ignored in Matthew 5:28 then your question comes up naturally. Desire has lawful and unlawful boundaries, that's all. If it's desire for sex, then that's approved within a marriage between a man and his wife, otherwise, either fornication or adultery will be committed.

If single Christians notice that someone of the opposite sex is physically attractive, does that constitute lust? Paul Tillich remarks on the long history of damage done by those who have called the natural strivings of the self-propagating body evil, and I agree with him. But then how do we take the demands of Scripture seriously? I have thought of some answers, but I don't want to rush in where angels fear to tread. You were so close to the correct definition of lust only to completely blow it after the 4-minute mark. Here's a hint: "What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, Thou shalt not COVET." [Romans 7:7] Another Hint: The 10th Commandment does NOT say "Thou shalt not covet" period. It STARTS with "Thou shalt not covet" then lists the things that you are not allowed to covet, including your neighbor's wife. The Answer: To "lust" after (covet) a woman simply means you want her to be your wife, which is NOT sinful in and of itself. But if you want a woman who is already someone else's wife to be your wife, THAT is adultery of the heart. There's no need for the paranoia towards lust that is displayed in this video, or your strategy for avoiding sexual sin.
My families in Christ, please pray for me for dealing with the temptations of lust and masturbation. I have been tortured and haunted by this deadly sin ever since my childhood years. However, speaking from a personal journey, I know that educating myself with the right doctrines might save me from sensual cravings which I find disgusting whenever I am in a serious study of the Bible or CS Lewis' writings. I want to know if a consistent triumph over lust in this life is ever possible, especially for a person like me who was used to watch porn?
Also, I have always doubted marrying purely for the sake of sexual gratification. It is almost as a selfish act to use another person as a means to gratify the senses. Having said that, I don't know if there are other proper ways to manage desire and not be burned with fire. Moreover, the theory of burning with Godly desire is rather hard in practice. Sigh... What can I do to not give in to my fallen natural tendency?

There in lies the source of sin. A sexual thought or desire can either be rooted in lust or in Christ. So it can never be a sin by it's own merit.
Ruben De Puben What makes you think you can control lust? In order to control lust, which is an unbidden thought/feeling, wouldn’t other unbidden thoughts (such as: “lust is wicked in the eyes of the Lord”) need to arise?
Enlightened Mumbo Jumbo that would be true if lust is a thought or feeling. But it is not, it is the engine, something that fuels our thoughts and feeling. The question of wether it's sinfull depends on whether there is an alternative. For making it a sin there must be an other engine to choose from. If it it's the only engine available it could never be a sin. So, no alternative, no sin. You can question if it is fair to attach consequentions to this sin if you are not (made) fully aware of the alternative or have no access to it, yes, but that changes not the nature (sinfull/good) of the engines. The controling part lies in the possiblility to choose, and sinning would than be choosing the wrong engine (if you accept/believe there is a choice that is).
I'll grant that lust is an 'engine' for the sake of the argument (even though I contend that it is a thought/feeling). Even if it is an engine, what makes you think that you can choose between engines?

2:49 romans says therefore don’t let sin reign in our mortal body. Why do we fight sin? The core is unbelief. Jesus said a fig tree bears figs. You will know a tree by his fruit. Of course fleeing lust will not save. You will flee lust because God has done a work and saved you, regenerated you, and you have been born again. Lust is very hard to define. Some people go extreme and everything becomes lust. If you go to church and see a woman with her boobs out dressing sexually. You notice her and see her and you feel disgusted and tell the church. This is not lust. Noticing beauty is also not lust. However, having an intense desire to pursue falling away from Christ is.
No. That definition has been changed over time. Lust means desire toward anything, but often toward a forbidden thing or something that is intrinsically evil. And today the word 'lust' is usually referring to sexual desire, especially toward someone who isn't one's spouse. So, in that sense it is possibly disorderly and possibly sinful (e.g. Matthew 5:28). One should control his/her thoughts and actions. But sexual desire in itself is natural and not evil. God cares about purity of heart most certainly (James 4:8, 1 Timothy 1:5, Matthew 5:8), so there is sin when that is missing.

Jesus was telling the married man an extension of the Old Testament. Not only must you not have physical sex outside your marriage but you may also not look at other women lustfully, because that shows your heart is not aligned to your marriage . If a single man checks out a girl at the mall with no negative thoughts , he honestly has comiitted no sin. If a single man watches porn or has sex prior to marriage he has committed sexual immorality, not adultery .

@@yestothetruth it’s important to know . People need to know the exact sin they are repenting off because repenting is confessing and turning away. (Past tense) I use to pray to GOD to forgive me of adultery , but in reality I had never even committed that sin. I was actually committing sexual immorality (porn)

If I were a single man watching porn and lusting after a married porn star woman, then I would be committing adultery with her in my heart in that case. Otherwise, in the majority of cases, it would be fornication starting in my heart just like adultery does (Mark 7:21). I have no knowledge that all female porn stars are single women. So, I could not say that as an ex-porn addict, I had only committed fornication. And it's not just that. There is no doubt in my mind that being a single man and lusting after a married woman, on or off porn sites, is adultery. That may not even be clear until God sheds light on such a situation that a wicked heart may be blind to.
It depends on what's going on in your mind. You said, you "look at girls"... If you had to record every instance of what you call looking at a girl, what short sentence would you write down each time? Or what would you tell those girls if you had to tell them each time what was on your mind?
Sexual lust is natural and not a sin in itself. So, no one "falls" into that as much as it can't be said that anyone falls into hunger, or the desire to sleep. But the object of the lust can make that it is evil or forbidden. For instance, having no love in the picture, just looking at random people as sex objects... That's a start to think on cases where lusting sexually after someone can be sinful.
How about you fall over and over this sin when the thoughts came, and I immediately response. Then I repent, I felt guilty again, I repent and tommorow the thoughts are there again. It is always just a cycle, I am still praying but then again I failed again

The sin of lust. It is the attraction of male for female that creates souls for God. A man looks at a woman and thinks stuff. A woman looks at a man and thinks stuff too. Blessed are the married. They get a free pass for lusts of the flesh. They can do no wrong in the eyes of God. They please God and the rest of us just have to eat it. We can't think things. We aren't allowed to wonder and want. The single person is damned for thinking.

If that thought didn't get into your mind deliberately, then don't worry about any other unwanted thought that gets into your mind. You just have to be consistent and stand against anything evil. It's when you agree to be entertained with an evil thought that you sin. But once you realize what happened, you must resist any temptation that comes from the new thought until you can focus on something else. So, you just keep on battling. You have prayer as your weapon, you have scriptures (it may help to know some scriptures that apply to such situations you are facing, ex: 2 Corinthians 10:5), and most of all you have your faith in Jesus delivering you from those situations altogether. If you are being obedient to Jesus in all (John 14:15, Luke 6:46-48), that's how you will purify your heart (1 Peter 1:22) and will conquer those issues. Peace to you!

Lust is a synonymous of the word desire, actually. We can have good or evil desires. Desiring another man's wife to have her as one's own is an evil desire. If the context is ignored in Matthew 5:28 then your question comes up naturally. Desire has lawful and unlawful boundaries, that's all. If it's desire for sex, then that's approved within a marriage between a man and his wife, otherwise, either fornication or adultery will be committed.

To lust after/covet something means to want that something to belong to you. I needed this but it's so hard when you've met a potential husband and fallen in love and then after that comes desire. We have such a strong connection we both feel but are not ready to just run off and marry yet. I know Gods word says it's better to marry than to burn but I don't want to rushes into marriage neither into sin...please pray for us to nail our flesh to the cross and stay pure of heart mind and all.
I know, It is hard. I think you need to focus on the "out of proportion part" of lust in these situation. I dont believe in the only-holding-hands-before-marriage-doctrine. But trying to keep the expression of desires in proportion to were you stand in your relationship. If you feel you need more time before marriage, your sexual desires should also get adapted to that. Otherwise it becomes lust and will disorders/overtake your thought and actions. Dont let sexual desires take the lead role, Both before and in marriage

It is urgent that you genuinely repent, that means coming into 100% agreement with God about what is good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. It's a black and white matter, so don't let it be any kind of gray area. When you recognize certain thoughts that come to you are sinful, you need to be fighting against them. When they come, you must not agree with them and take them as a basis for any fantasies. Instead, call out to God immediately and tell Him you don't want to keep having such thoughts. And also do your best to focus on something else. You can memorize some scriptures that have to do with the purity of your heart precisely, and recall them in those moments when thoughts come to tempt you to entertain sinful imaginations.
These thoughts may not go away right away but you must not give up. When you stand against them, that's your cross that you are taking up daily to be a follower of Jesus (Luke 9:23). And if you're following Jesus, He won't lead you into sin. Jesus will completely deliver you, but you have to do your part which is how you show God that you love Him above all (John 14:15) and want to follow his ways with all your heart. And by faith, you need to see the day of your deliverance, where you will just look back and realize you haven't been having these kinds of thoughts, and give praise to God!

Lust is a very dangerous characteristic it can be uncontrollable so to the point that an individual can do painful horrible things to others. It is also a product of the imagination! If we focus on something which is out of character long enough, it can take us down and once acted upon can be very detrimental to that individual and those individuals he/she imposes themselves upon. If the act is consensual then there is no problem depending on the situation. If there are innocent people involved then there can be a serious problem. Self control is always a key factor in being safe and healthy. There are various types of lusts not just sexual. Drugs, power, control and so on are all pretty much driven by various types of lusts. One has to take the time to think about one's desires before acting upon them. It could at times be the difference between life and death also. I have learned to just walk away from anything or anyone that I'm in doubt of.

I've quit drinking, smoking, lying, I eat right, I started praying every day, and I live a life with integrity as best as I can. I know I'm going to sin in my mind. Humans are hopeless in that sense. We know this, that's why Jesus had to save us. But I don't want to live IN sin anymore. I hate it. I havent been with a woman in over 3 years by choice. The word translated as "woman" is also the same word for "wife" which fits better with the not coveting your neighbours wife law. Sin is breaking the Laws of God (somewhere in the NT). I also believe it was Paul who said if you cannot contain (your lust?) then it is better to marry. Better to marry, not a requirement. I think it's speaking more about lusting after married women, not single women you might marry.
I am struggling deeply with lust and porn addiction :( Please pray for me brothers and sisters 🙏 I don't know what to do, it seems too hard for me to overcome my desires. They feel natural and I always give in to feelings of pleasure because I think it will make me happy or at least distract me for a while.
I have built up a strong habit and now it feels like I am stuck in this pattern of sin, conviction, confession, repentance, temptation and then falling into sin again.
Everytime I sin in this way, I am convicted in my heart but I still can't overcome my desires in the moment :(

magicpotion8, you have to make a determined effort if you want to change. You can't keep doing the same things and expect prayers to suddenly change everything. You have to understand what God wants you to do and do it. God wants you to repent, and it is urgent. Who says you have another month or another 3 months or even another week to come clean with God? Repentance is the basis for forgiveness of sins already committed. But not only that, victory over the power of sin and freedom from sin, which is what salvation in Jesus is about (Romans 6:5-7, 14, 18). You just can't be double-minded as you approach God (James 4:8), because then your _repentance_ will never be genuine.
Repentance means coming into 100% agreement with God about what is good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. Don't call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). If you're still doing anything that you know doesn't please God, then you are not showing to God that you want to quit it for good, and that's absolutely necessary. Now, if you hate the things you know God hates (all sins), which would show genuine repentance, then you will turn away from them. If you regret having sinned against God, then you will stop sinning against God. Jesus will completely deliver you, but you have to do your part. I pray you are willing to do your part and repent to get on the same page with God about everything in your life. You must start submitting to God and resisting the devil (James 4:7-8). You will then see results.

Im glad you have overcomed it.👏🏽 the way the world is at the moment especially with social media its almost impossible for us to avoid it. Its hard on teenager like myself experiencing puberty and these unwanted temptations. Furthermore, its terrifying how natural and casual society makes it seem. I was just baptized a few weeks ago and i really planned to change but i kept repeating the same sin and constantly repenting for my mistakes. If this helped you I’m sure it can help me as well.

I'm getting wrecked with obsessive fears about my salvation all day long the voices in my head say I'm not believing. it's gotten worse over the last year. I dont know how to fight it because when I try its saying none of this matters because you need to be saved first. so I cry out to be saved and then it's like I'm trying to be saved by my own words. like trying to make it happen. I'm sick.... I damaged my brain from psyche meds and I've been tapering for 2 years I dont control my thoughts and emotions they have all projected into Gods charachter. I have become so so guilty and ashamed of every thought I have I say NO. I believe. but the inner thoughts say I'm not trusting in Christ's finished work but trusting in myself.... so I ask forgiveness but these thoughts happen all day long. please pray for me. I dont want to manipulate. or twist I need help. I cry out all day. JESUS help me. I BELIEVE! you saved me 2 years ago. I feel like I've grown in legalism and looking at self. lord do not let me be destroyed
Chris, I feel your pain brother. It sounds like you know that by focusing your thoughts on yourself, your own mind, and your ability to "believe", you're reversing the Gospel and making it about your work, instead of about Christ's work on your behalf. Our enemy loves to mix us up like that.
Rather than trying to control your obsessive thoughts directly, why not work on filling your mind with Gospel truth? This is how every Christian grows and develops... by the renewing of their mind. When the obsessive thoughts come, speak over them by reading scripture out loud to yourself... Psalm 25 is a good start. Also, try stating out loud, as many scriptural promises and truths as you can recall. Make it a regular, daily practice. Think about what God has done, what he is doing now, and what will ultimately be. Throughout this practice, keep your focus on him and not on you.
Your heavenly father is kind and patient. Surely he has seen your struggle. He has brought you this far, he will not abandon you. For the sake of his own name, he will finish the work he has started in you. I'm praying for you.
I love you brother. Keep looking at John Piper's videos. He is a very tactful and eloquent man with a heart for our Lord. God has anointed Him to speak life over your situation. Pray for baptism in the Holy Spirit daily, seek after His will, and ask for the greater spiritual gifts and fruits to accomplish it.

Hi Chris, it’s been two years since you wrote this comment, and i hope you’re doing fine! I feel your pain as well. When I read this I was like woAh, this guy was (a little bit now is) me. I really really tried to force my salvation down my throat and I me really anxious of my salvation. I agree a lot with what Brian said, I mean that’s what I did- focus on God and not on yourself, fill yourself up with the Gospel truth with the renewing of your mind:)
oh, and this is a little something that I wrote to myself during quiet time, I hope it could be useful to you as well:
You should stop denying you have doubts, there’s nothing you can hide from God. If you want to look good(that I have a lot of faith) in front of God, you should stop it, because, well, there isn’t anything you can do to win His favour. If you were, you are trying to find favour with Him. Which doesn’t happen, right, because God’s Grace is entirely free and there isn’t anything you can do to win it! And our good, gracious God has given that to you.
Hey Chris! Like you, I also always sort of don’t really acknowledge this part and instead, I trust in my own work instead: God is good and gracious. And He is understanding!
Yknow, there’s this song called “truth be told” by Matthew West, the whole song is great, but there’s a line that particularly stuck with me: “being honest is the only way to fix it”.
At this point in time, I also feel like I still struggle with things and I like to push them down in hopes that God doesn’t see it. But then I realised, from my personal experience, being honest with God is the best way, and we should always trust in the final works of Christ. (Wonderful work of paying for our forgiveness and salvation) If we have doubts, we have doubts. We must acknowledge and know our problem before we can be led by God to treat it, right?
Place your mind off yourself, focus on God instead (look at Brian’s earlier comment). Really, don’t hide from God, don’t be afraid to tell God how you feel.
Ask God for help, to show you the way for certain things you can’t grasp, He’s always there. Don’t let anything hinder you from receiving the Grace God has intended for you.
Remember, Jesus is always there for you. Call on Him and He’ll save you! Don’t give up :) and if you need, I’ll always be here for you:)

Nothing is impossible with God. His grace is sufficient for all situations. But you need to have a discipline about what you keep your focus on. Sexual desire doesn't have to be something that controls your life even as a single person. So, its not in itself sinful, but if purity of heart and self-control are lacking, then sin will come out of that.

Hi......yours is an excellent framing of a question that I have been pondered off and on. If single Christians notice that someone of the opposite sex is physically attractive, does that constitute lust? Paul Tillich remarks on the long history of damage done by those who have called the natural strivings of the self-propagating body evil, and I agree with him. But then how do we take the demands of Scripture seriously? I have thought of some answers, but I don't want to rush in where angels fear to tread. Male, Calvinist/Baptist with a Messianic overlay is my official theological pigeonhole, married 38 years.
You were so close to the correct definition of lust only to completely blow it after the 4-minute mark. Here's a hint:
"What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, Thou shalt not COVET." [Romans 7:7]
Another Hint: The 10th Commandment does NOT say "Thou shalt not covet" period. It STARTS with "Thou shalt not covet" then lists the things that you are not allowed to covet, including your neighbor's wife.
The Answer:
To "lust" after (covet) a woman simply means you want her to be your wife, which is NOT sinful in and of itself. But if you want a woman who is already someone else's wife to be your wife, THAT is adultery of the heart. There's no need for the paranoia towards lust that is displayed in this video, or your strategy for avoiding sexual sin.
My families in Christ, please pray for me for dealing with the temptations of lust and masturbation. I have been tortured and haunted by this deadly sin ever since my childhood years. However, speaking from a personal journey, I know that educating myself with the right doctrines might save me from sensual cravings which I find disgusting whenever I am in a serious study of the Bible or CS Lewis' writings. I want to know if a consistent triumph over lust in this life is ever possible, especially for a person like me who was used to watch porn?
Also, I have always doubted marrying purely for the sake of sexual gratification. It is almost as a selfish act to use another person as a means to gratify the senses. Having said that, I don't know if there are other proper ways to manage desire and not be burned with fire. Moreover, the theory of burning with Godly desire is rather hard in practice. Sigh... What can I do to not give in to my fallen natural tendency?

It’s absurd that certain thoughts are considered sin when we’re not in control of our thoughts.
Enlightened Mumbo Jumbo If lust can control my thoughts, and i can control lust, than i control my thoughts by controling lust. I agree , thoughts can nog be controled directly. But it's roots can. There in lies the source of sin. A sexual thought or desire can either be rooted in lust or in Christ. So it can never be a sin by it's own merit.

What makes you think you can control lust? In order to control lust, which is an unbidden thought/feeling, wouldn’t other unbidden thoughts (such as: “lust is wicked in the eyes of the Lord”) need to arise?
Enlightened Mumbo Jumbo that would be true if lust is a thought or feeling. But it is not, it is the engine, something that fuels our thoughts and feeling. The question of wether it's sinfull depends on whether there is an alternative. For making it a sin there must be an other engine to choose from. If it it's the only engine available it could never be a sin. So, no alternative, no sin. You can question if it is fair to attach consequentions to this sin if you are not (made) fully aware of the alternative or have no access to it, yes, but that changes not the nature (sinfull/good) of the engines. The controling part lies in the possiblility to choose, and sinning would than be choosing the wrong engine (if you accept/believe there is a choice that is).
I'll grant that lust is an 'engine' for the sake of the argument (even though I contend that it is a thought/feeling). Even if it is an engine, what makes you think that you can choose between engines?

2:49 romans says therefore don’t let sin reign in our mortal body. Why do we fight sin? The core is unbelief. Jesus said a fig tree bears figs. You will know a tree by his fruit. Of course fleeing lust will not save. You will flee lust because God has done a work and saved you, regenerated you, and you have been born again.
And yes if you have your wife before God, probably not a good thing.

No. That definition has been changed over time. Lust means desire toward anything, but often toward a forbidden thing or something that is intrinsically evil. And today the word 'lust' is usually referring to sexual desire, especially toward someone who isn't one's spouse. So, in that sense it is possibly disorderly and possibly sinful (e.g. Matthew 5:28). One should control his/her thoughts and actions. But sexual desire in itself is natural and not evil. God cares about purity of heart most certainly (James 4:8, 1 Timothy 1:5, Matthew 5:8), so there is sin when that is missing.
How do we commit adultery by lusting if we are single? I'm not having a go I'm just confused? Anyone ??
If one is single, lusting after/desiring a married woman to be one's own would be adultery in the heart.

Jesus was telling the married man an extension of the Old Testament. Not only must you not have physical sex outside your marriage but you may also not look at other women lustfully, because that shows your heart is not aligned to your marriage .
If a single man checks out a girl at the mall with no negative thoughts , he honestly has comiitted no sin.
If a single man watches porn or has sex prior to marriage he has committed sexual immorality, not adultery .

So, considering that God is not respecter of persons, I regard that what Jesus spoke to men is also true for women if the focus person is reversed.
Otherwise, I see like you about checking out someone with a pure heart and watching porn. And 2 single people can only commit fornication / whoredom together.

I use to pray to GOD to forgive me of adultery , but in reality I had never even committed that sin. I was actually committing sexual immorality (porn)

If I were a single man watching porn and lusting after a married porn star woman, then I would be committing adultery with her in my heart in that case. Otherwise, in the majority of cases, it would be fornication starting in my heart just like adultery does (Mark 7:21).
I have no knowledge that all female porn stars are single women. So, I could not say that as an ex-porn addict, I had only committed fornication. And it's not just that. There is no doubt in my mind that being a single man and lusting after a married woman, on or off porn sites, is adultery. That may not even be clear until God sheds light on such a situation that a wicked heart may be blind to.

It depends on what's going on in your mind. You said, you "look at girls"... If you had to record every instance of what you call looking at a girl, what short sentence would you write down each time? Or what would you tell those girls if you had to tell them each time what was on your mind?
Why you waiting till marriage? Have some fun before you get stuck with the same person for the rest of your life.

Sexual lust is natural and not a sin in itself. So, no one "falls" into that as much as it can't be said that anyone falls into hunger, or the desire to sleep. But the object of the lust can make that it is evil or forbidden. For instance, having no love in the picture, just looking at random people as sex objects... That's a start to think on cases where lusting sexually after someone can be sinful.

The sin of lust. It is the attraction of male for female that creates souls for God. A man looks at a woman and thinks stuff. A woman looks at a man and thinks stuff too. Blessed are the married. They get a free pass for lusts of the flesh. They can do no wrong in the eyes of God. They please God and the rest of us just have to eat it. We can't think things. We aren't allowed to wonder and want. The single person is damned for thinking.

"trying deliberately to take the thought out your mind" shows you are battling. If that thought didn't get into your mind deliberately, then don't worry about any other unwanted thought that gets into your mind. You just have to be consistent and stand against anything evil. It's when you agree to be entertained with an evil thought that you sin. But once you realize what happened, you must resist any temptation that comes from the new thought until you can focus on something else. So, you just keep on battling. You have prayer as your weapon, you have scriptures (it may help to know some scriptures that apply to such situations you are facing, ex: 2 Corinthians 10:5), and most of all you have your faith in Jesus delivering you from those situations altogether. If you are being obedient to Jesus in all (John 14:15, Luke 6:46-48), that's how you will purify your heart (1 Peter 1:22) and will conquer those issues.

Attraction comes in different ways it could be as simple as saying someone is pretty but there is a sexual way which is towards someone who is not your significant other which is sin

Natural human attraction isn't the problem. Desiring (lusting) is different from simply (naturally) finding someone attractive. This post should help you better understand what the issues are.

You can find answers to any questions you have about your sexuality in your own relationship with God. He will surely point out to you anything that is possibly in the way of closeness to Him, whether that's a wrong action/behavior or a wrong mindset. So, if you focus on building or deepening your relationship with God, then you will be able to seek and receive his precise guidance on anything.
I can share this: One should control his/her thoughts and actions, but sexual desire in itself is natural and not evil. And God cares about purity of heart most certainly, so there is sin when that along with self-control in one's thoughts and actions are lacking (Matthew 5:8, James 4:8, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

Lust is a synonymous of the word desire, actually. We can have good or evil desires. Desiring another man's wife to have her as one's own is an evil desire. If the context is ignored in Matthew 5:28 then your question comes up naturally. Desire has lawful and unlawful boundaries, that's all. If it's desire for sex, then that's approved within a marriage between a man and his wife, otherwise, either fornication or adultery will be committed.
Lust isn't only about Sex. Lust isn't sin.

@@miracle10811 Lust = coveting which is NOT a sin in and of itself. Read the 10th Commandment very carefully. Look at what or WHO is on that list. THAT is what Jesus is calling adultery of the heart. To lust after/covet something means to want that something to belong to you. For a man to lust after/covet a woman means he wants her to be his wife, which is NOT a sin unless said woman is someone else's wife.

Oral sex isn't sick or wrong. It's perfectly fine if you are both comfortable with it and it doesn't hurt the other person. In the APJ podcast, he addresses this specifically. It's like breasts, they are designed to provide milk to babies and yet Proverbs 5:19 says, "Let her breasts satisfy you at all times." Unlike anal sex, this is physically damaging the rectum of the other person. Not ok even if its desired because it does harm.
