Raising the Neewer light 3x the height of the Falcon doesn’t make it SOFTER, it makes it HARDER since the apparent size is smaller. It might make it less bright since it’s farther away, but it doesn’t make it softer. These things are very important if you’re going to be doing reviews.
Great video. My biggest complaint is constantly hearing "this light" instead of the actual brand of light you're talking about. It makes it had to follow if the viewer is multitasking and wanting to just listen.
Thanks for the great comparison of the round led bi-color lights. I recently purchased two of the Neewer 21 inch LED Bi-Color Studio Lights. As you pointed out, the light is too bright even at the lowest setting for fill light. I compensated by mounting a 24" collapsable round translucent diffuser 5 to 7 inches in front of the light. This does the trick and adds even more softness. Still, I wish the brightness could be adjusted lower. I would happily give up some of the upper end of brightness for more control over the lower end.
I'm using the fotodiox studio xl but it's definitely different from using a softbox. Softbox has better quality light, I hope they have some attachment that can soften the ligth a little bit more.
Dude thanks for this is awesome thanks for the comparison! This was is exactly what I was comparing and wondering what the difference was and whether it was worth big jump in price. I think the honeycomb texture is also adding to the intensity of this light. Thanks again!
@@PortlandEventFilms yeah. I think it’s more accurate in terms of colour tones too. I’d rather have more control than brightness as you can alway set up another light for extra light but as you say if you don’t want too much light then you have to move the light away and or use more diffusion.
Thank a lot. You have a new subscribers. In my country I can only find this one Falcon Eyes SO-28TD - Luce LED bi-colore, 28W, regolabile, 3000-5600K, rotonda, Soft Panel per illuminazione studio fotografico Don you think would be similar as a model and features ? Thanks
That's such a bummer that the newer is so bright at 1%. Everything else about it seems great for the price, but that brightness is a deal breaker for me. What's the point of having this nice small sleek light then having to add softness with a bedsheet or something? It defeats the whole purpose. On the other hand, I hate that the Falcon doesn't fold to an overhead the way the newer does. Might have to just go with the Mountdog soft box for now. Was really hoping to get something that wouldn't take up as much room though. Thanks for the video btw!
Hello, great review btw. I just purchased two of the newer batteries and want to purchase batteries for it. Which batteries did you get for it and about how much time does it give you? I am worried if I purchase the largest ones, it will increase the overall weight. Also what light stand are you using?
@@PortlandEventFilms Thanks a lot for quick response. One last question. Neewer has also two models square ones. 288 LARGE LED. Do you recommend the round 21 inch or the 288 square. I am pretty novice and I would like to start. Thanks
I am visually impaired and sensitive to bright light. Trying the 68TDX II for my TH-cam videos. Wow, awesome light BUT ... way too heavy for my desk setup. Is the Neewer seriously brighter than 25% of the Falcon Eyes? That’s really bright. And is it lighter weight?
@@PortlandEventFilms What do you mean? Are the Neewers really horrible build quality? Do you think they would hold up clamped to a desk and maybe being taken on the road once or twice a year?
I have two of Neewer's LED rectangular panels. I was looking for something substantially brighter for continuous lighting with portraits. I have the 440 and 660 bicolor Panels. Is this circular one brighter than these? It's funny how there are not specs on it.
great video, thank you! I have the neewer and need to get some batteries for it - do you recommend the vmount battery or np-f? and what are the specific types of vmount/which np-f does it require? it's my first studio light and i have no idea what batteries to buy...
@@PortlandEventFilms thank you! what type of np-f? the light description only says "compatible with sony np-f series batteries" - does that mean i can really use any type of np-f? i want something that will work for about 3 hours, but i'm scared to fry my light.
@@janirose Pay attention to the power draw, not sure the smallest np f will do the job. Better to use a slightly bigger output than one too small, otherwise you can damage the batteries and the light itself. I would probably go for two np f 970 with 7.4 v and at least 6600 mah each, bigger and slightly heavier but also last longer.
I don’t understand how you say “this light is too bright for product shots”- strobe lights are many times more powerful than these lights are. How can they be too bright for product photography? Are you shooting at iso 3200 or 6400? If you’re using video lights for product shots, there is no way they are too powerful to get a proper exposure. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?
Hi. Is there a big difference between this Neewer led soft light or using a Neewer ring light and attaching a diffuser to it? There's a big price difference so was wondering if there's a big difference in terms of the lighting effect? Thank you
@@PortlandEventFilms I mean both lights are from Neewer. So the option I'm looking at is the regular Neewer ring lights with the diffuse fabric cover over them or the Neewer 21 inch LED you were talking about in the video. so true. and if it's to bright - for whatever reason - you can use greyfilters.

Awesome! Do you happen to have a picture of how you mounted the diffusor or could you describe it?
I cant seem to find the 24" Collapsible Round Diffuser that you use. Can you get back to me rollsman4@yahoo.com Thanks
I’m so glad I went with the Neweer I got scared there for a moment!! Thank you for a great review!
Not a Problem

If you press the rotating knob on the Neewer it will adjust by 10% instead of 1% and you can adjust color much quicker.
great comparison i just got the newer light
Perfect. I have the newest but have had my eyes on the falcons eyes
I ended up keeping the smaller Falcon eye

Great video, very helpful and thorough review with real world info on both. Much appreciated man.
Very nice! I want that Neewer light!
Btw... you can always use an ND filter if the light is too bright.
or tape an ND Gel to the light.
Yeah but who wants to do that though? It's inconvenient. I wish they just would have made it a little less bright.
Great review. How would you compare the flapjack light to a neewer panel light ( box )?

the neewer is $160 and the falcon is $300
