Regret #9 does it to me every time. I get so into it as a musical journey, when it closes out I almost collapse down into my seat. Every time. Wilson is the Mozart of our age.
I saw this tour. Hats off to Alex for taking this on knowing he would be compared to Guthrie. As I understand it, Steven spoke with Alex early on about the inevitable comparisons and criticisms he would undoubtedly receive and told him to not worry about it. At the shows I saw, I heard the criticisms. It was a no-win situation, and he handled it like a professional. I'm sure it wasn't easy, and he deserves a lot of respect, which was well earned. The solo Guthrie did on the recording is amazing, done in one take and, SW and PT fans expect a lot. One can't blame them after the standard SW has created with the studio recordings and live shows. However, to pull things off live, that someone else recorded, and lacks your fingerprint, is hard. As an artist, you want to add some of yourself into the performance to make the performance genuine and not have to fake it. Any performance an orchestra does of classical music is an interpretation by the conductor and that is accepted. The same courtesy wasn't applied to Alex. Would I have wanted to see Guthrie? Yes, and I'm just as guilty. Luckily, I did see Guthrie and tried to not make comparisons but, it wasn't easy. Ergo, that's why I take my hat off to Alex. He did very well in a no-win situation.
Alex is an amazing player and this is a super challenging gig. How many players on the planet could play like a pro with Wilson and outshine Guthrie? A few maybe, Any ideas, could you name them? Jason Richardson, possibly, for a purely shred approach?
@@spencerdawson6536 There's no one I can think of off the top of my head with that combination of technical skill, musicality, restraint (compared to his solo work) and who plays what the song calls for and doesn't have the "look at me" ego. There are guys who may have the technical skills but, what I think what makes Guthrie stand out is, he's very musical and "means" what he's playing. You can feel it. He's not just showing off.
that's the brilliant Adam Holzman. Jazz chops for days -- spent four years with the legendary Miles Davis, including one year as music director, and has recorded a bunch of his own albums as well; he's been Wilson's keyboardist of choice since 2011 (SW's first solo tour).
Fucking proper prog! You are the messiah. When I was 16 I lived in west cork on the family farm , I am the eldest so it was going to be mine but I had to agricultural college for a year , then in one week I heard suppers ready and echoes and I decided more to live so I went to Dublin after school to study philosophy , thus meaning I had passed on the farm , I started a pHD on Jungian imagery in early genesis lyrics , then I wanted to be a shrink so went to medical school in my 20s became a shrink and ultimately bought the farm back from my sister because I got a job in cork , just raise horses on the land now . But prog did that for me , to hear it still being made so my kids will hear hit just fills me with joy , thank you
The build of the song proves how big genius in composing is Steven. He knows exactly what he want to be played in every section and choose everytime some of the best musicians to play with knowing how he do it perfectly and without headaches.
Steve Wilson is on the top rung of song-crafters of our time. So many styles, so many genre, just from one multi-instrumentalist writer. His band are also some of the best, and many are multi-instrumentalist, as well, which in my opinion is a great plus, and brings me back to the 70's of watching bands swap out instruments and being just as good on one as the other instruments. It is so hard to find these days.
So grateful to have been at this show. I was relatively new to both SW and PT, and the only track I was desperately hoping to hear was Regret #9. Both solos are incredible...as was the whole band that special night at the RAH.
This CD/DVD is one of my favourite live ever... it is so high quality, so well mastered, the performance il flawless and the set list is wonderful... I also recommend Get All You Deserve, which covers his early records. I love that one as well!
Oh man.. Im so grateful for having been there. This very show is still impregnated in my memory. And of many PT and SW shows Ive been on, this, is one of the most vivid. It was probably one of the best I've seen of all.. I hope they also release Regret and Index.
How time flies, 10 years since Hand Cannot Erase. This and Ancestral were my favorite live moments ever and I can’t wait to see the SW concert next year in Stuttgart!! My heart will overflow to see them performing live together again. Until then I'll be watching my Home Invasion DVD In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall
Superb. I saw this tour in Brisbane back then. At the end of the the opening song Steven commented *"This wasn't my idea"* . He was addressing the fact that the audience was *seated*. It was my first 'seated' SW concert and it did feel a bit weird.
Qué grandes músicos ! Magníficos ! Todos sabiendo cada acorde, cuando darlo y de forma magistral! Es como una orquesta y ya sabemos quién es el director! 🖤🖤 Esperando veros en España !!😊🎉
Thank-you SW; always surrounded by best of class players! Love every ensemble--thrilling live--and eager to hear who and what comes next! Thanks again & cheers from PDX, OR USA.
This is my favorite music, I espically love the part that begins on 06:41 - the keyboard and guitar solos are just magnificent (even though they are not technically solos), I play this on my MP3 over and over and over.
Foda!
When my friends say, there's no good new music anymore -I play this for them. It changes their minds. Thank you SW.
Sounds like you need to change your friends.
Which he is… with better music.
Dude, this song has 9 years... it´s not new
9 years, terrible that time is Running so fast, Hard to say that Steven has not made something like this in newer days
Simp.
Killer performance.
Killer crowd. Congratulations.
The most popular unknown man in music.
Absolutely wild isn't it. I've listened to Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson for 20+ years. NEVER heard them ONCE on any radio station.
Regret #9 does it to me every time. I get so into it as a musical journey, when it closes out I almost collapse down into my seat. Every time. Wilson is the Mozart of our age.
guitar solo needs that fat and heavy tone in the original version.
That dude in the guitar has so much musicality!
That's Alex Hutchings. Great player.
He has a youtube channel!
He's great but he didn't write that. Guthrie gowan is the originator he's also an incredible player.
@@MrSphandor surely Govan's original part and playing is killer and I like it a lot, but this guy nailed the feel indeed!
One of the best prog songs ever (including the 70's).
Steven is untouchable.
I'll wait for him in Rome on June 8th.

That epic Moog solo right into Alex's amazing guitar solo...
Nothing hits like Guthrie’s original solo (unfortunately)
@@scarem84604 The synth solo on the album is something to behold, followed by one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
I’m hoping Steven will bring the tour to the States. I Need to see these guys at least once before I croak 🐸
Agreed!
I still can't believe I saw him in 2015 and with Porcupine Tree in 2022. Amazing to witness.
I've been there at least 25 times, I really envy the first meeting.
S.W. is phenomenal on stage.
Greetings from Poland!
The great Alex Hutchings! Brutal solos both Adam and him, hats off...!
Hats Off To Alex But Guthrie Solo Is The Real One🙂
Man this moog solo has so much feel. One of the best SW tracks ever

Awesome, I never saw Steven playing bass live before.
Les musiciens changent, tous excellentissimes, mais le résultat est le même : une espèce de perfection. Bravo Steven.

Sir Alex Hutchings is such a beast. I love the way he plays.
The pocket this song has with both the intro with Steven and after that with Nick Beggs is astonishing
