I would love to see you build a kitchen cabinet using your total workstation Ron... I just finished watching the videos of you building the SMART Woodshop. Some of it I watched twice. Awesome set up.. Thanks again for the videos.
I used these cabinets in my first house. Everything held up except the soft close hinges and slide. I am planning to use them again in the future but buying Blum hardware.
Thanks Ron for your awesome review of Cabinets to Go. I looked at them for a bar I want to build at my home, and decided I would make my own. I am not in a time crunch.
Ron, great video. I just put 3 of the cabinets / drawers together myself. Question about hardware. The sliders for the drawers. From what I could figure out based on lack of instructions my drawers had pre drilled holes on the back plate and single holes on the bottom of the two sides. Slipped the back pointy things on the back plate and the sides had individual metal anchors the fit in the holes on the drawer sides. You mentioned adding screws ? Where did those go ? Instructions IMO we’re not good. Thx !!
I installed a vanity next to a door like that. Installed the casing. Then realized my drawer hit the casing and I couldn’t open the drawer fully. I was able to open it enough to where I didn’t reposition it but yours looks a lot closer. I’m sure you already know this but thought I’d let you know to be sure the casing isn’t too thick.
That bathroom is completely finished now and the drawer clears the casing by ⅞." I have installed 1000s of cabinets and made every mistake possible once. Now my goal is not to repeat any of them. Checking clearances is done at planning, not install.😎🤙
They look nice and are a lot faster than building your own... but that's where the fun is for me. In the total reno like you are doing understood just not enough time to build your own. Keep up the good work!
Have you assembled Lily Anne Cabinets before? They are pretty similar but are usually both cheaper and better build quality than Cabinets 2 Go. Order times are usually pretty quick unless you pay for assembly. Not only are the droors dovetailed, but so are the all panels, and they use metal brackets instead of plastic.
I love this guy, even though he is an Anglo Carpenter he has great ideas, super applications for residential sub-costruction and real added value to convey that I miss in Germany, he clearly has more going on than anything here in Germany. I am currently rebuilding his workbench. And looking forward to working with it. Check out his store... Just great.... ( The Google translator is not so good.) Like on Ron Paulk....
super informative. I just got back from Cabinet's to go and these cabinets were on sale. I also don't like the lines, but it is good to see they are solid wood. too bad about the hardware..
@thesmartwoodshop would you be willing to share where you got you work apron/belt combo and what brand it is? I have been looking for one like this for some time and they are never like this. Thank you
1000s of cabinets ago, I completely finished installing a high end kitchen and then installed the dishwasher which hit the cabinet around the corner from it. From that point on, I have never made that mistake again. In this case, I clear the trim by ⅞" 😎🤙
Hey Ron, you need to get hooked up with Matrix Cabinets. Check them out. A friend of mine was selling and installing them close to where you are now. He passed away so the area should be open.
Great content and review. Thank you! I'm looking for a similar product to use for a walk in closet. Do you know of anything that offers closet components? T
Great video, good to see you dusting off your old cabinet maker skills! I am with you, it would be a nominal cost to upgrade to better hardware. The public’s view of your quality is in the details.
Hey Ron, I have purchased most of your plans, some a long time ago and other just recently. The benches are amazing and I am currently working on building the PSS right now. I bought the smart trailer plans a long time ago and have them printed off but I unfortunately cannot find the file anywhere to view on my tablet/computer and was wondering if you could allow another download so im able view them and explode the pages. My order number is 43879 and was on 7/12/20 I have finally gotten an enclosed trailer and am excited to build it out!
EZ level is great, but for two cabinets not necessary, plus not having to spend $50. I didn't even turn on my green laser which as 6' away already mounted on the tripod.😎
Mr. Ron, please don’t take this the wrong way. Considering I built all of your benches I’ve even got art that I pull behind my truck, and one of these days I hope you get smart on the road as well. That being said… I am actually a palled that you prefer a frameless cabinet over a framed cabinet for the life of me I can’t understand why that would be? I’ve always joked that frameless cabinets or euro boxes belong in Europe or in the office. Now I am only 37 but I guess that makes me old school. IDK
A dado is a woodworking term that refers to a slot or trench cut into the surface of a piece of wood. This groove is typically cut across the grain and is used to house the edge of another piece of wood, such as a shelf fitting into a bookcase side. Dados are commonly used in cabinetry, shelving, and other woodworking projects to provide strong and precise joints. The term can also refer to the lower part of a wall, usually differentiated by a different material or color.
I looked at cabinets to go but did not like the look/finish looked cheep so I ordered custom cabinets from a cabinet maker he said 12-16 weeks it took 15 weeks but they are beautiful so worth the wait.
@@TheSmartWoodshop but if the hardware is sketchy, and the soft-close drawer glides and door hinges begin to fail within a year or two of installation (as noted by other commenters), then it doesn't seem like a very good deal despite using all plywood and solid woods. I can't stand the sound of cabinets banging when closing, or hanging open because the self-closing mechanism isn't working. Where can you find RTA cabinets with plywood/solid woods, AND decent hardware?
I have no complaints about the hardware at this point. About two years in and still going strong. We only have the CTG in our main bath, which we share and is the only bath we use, so it gets plenty of use. Now that the wait times for materials are back to normal, we will go back to traditional suppliers and purchase pre-assembled boxes.@@number6photo
@@TheSmartWoodshop thanks for the feedback. 👍🏻 I’m not opposed to pre-assembled cabinets. Are there particular brands you like, or would stay away from? I was considering Thomasville from Home Depot (30% off right now, but still around $15k for our kitchen), all plywood construction with solid wood doors. We have some plywood/solid wood Thomasville cabinets from Home Depot in our master bath that are 10+ years old and they have held up really well, including all the hinges and drawer slides. But the current reviews on HD’s website make it sound like Thomasville isn’t what it used to be.
@@lorivezina7913 in short the cabinets may be constructed with plywood but they are put together as cheap as possible some are held together with just metal clips
This was a great video. You are a very good instructor, explaining the details that make all the difference to amateurs.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I am not sure why they cheap out on hardware. I will carefully check out the hardware on the higher end stuff.
Did they stop after awhile? They may have not been oiled enough?
Thanks Ron for your awesome review of Cabinets to Go. I looked at them for a bar I want to build at my home, and decided I would make my own. I am not in a time crunch.

@Ron, did I see you reading instructions 😮. Good for you 😉. 🤠🇫🇮
Ugg! I should have cut that😎

There's a time for full on custom and a time for off the shelf. Keep up the good work Ron!
For me the only time I build custom is when it can't be mass produced.
I'm glad I came across your video. I was skeptical about ordering these.
don't do it

The worst. limited warranty is a bunch of garbage. bo warranty really
Interesting kits. Still, it looked like the best part of the cabinetry you installed was the 1/2-inch Premcore that you added to cover their hole.
Premcore is hard to beat😎

Hi Ron,
I don’t think you mentioned in the video but about how long did it take you from start to finish install???
Are the drawers going to clear door casing ?

I would use them again only I would give enough time to order frameless.
cutting the face frame with a track saw at an angle to get a perfect fit! @10:17
Wow ! im gonna try that next time there is something like this!
It works well. Before I got a track saw I did the same thing with a router.

I'll just keep building my own cabinets, I like 3/4 even for the backs.
Check out the ez level system for leveling the cabinets very easy and way better than shims.

Very nice review of these cabinets. What was your final thought about the sturdiness of the drawer dovetails without using glue?
They are solid. We have been using them for a few months and all is well.😎
@@TheSmartWoodshop Thanks for your reply. They must be machined really well if no glue is needed-very impressive!

CTG offer low end up to some very nice high end. I think you can see from this video, this series was very nice other than the hardware.

Time and material cost point to mass produced cabinets as a better choice most of the time.
