I really enjoyed the video Chris. The detail was perfect for my needs. I like seeing the evolution of substrates to the point that we are now hearing what WORKS as opposed to what has hit the market by storm.
I have been converting all of my plants over to a mix of 3 parts lava rock, 1 part pearlite, and 1 part leca. They have all been converted over from soil. They all sit in trays of water. I couldn't tell if your monstera is going to sit in a reservoir or not. Thanks for all the things I have learned from you.
The winged geniculum isn't a 100% safe sign of a large form. A very mature small form (borsigiana) will get them too. The safest way to tell them apart is the leaf shape. The large form (deliciosa) is much rounder than the small form, which is much more elongated.
I've bought a top cutting of a Monstera albo. It's finally growing roots. Can I use this method for young cuttings that have only been exposed to water?
I have a question if you don't mind... Do you soak the LECA in water for at least 24 hours before using it? Everywhere online says you need to soak them first. I was curious as I have purchased LECA for my monstera and english ivy.
It looks like you are using very small perlite but I just wanted to check for sure, what size do you use? Any specific size or just the regular kind commonly bought at stores?
So the fizzing/oxidation indicates what? I was doing a little soak on a variegated peru cutting and the spot where the petiole was cut at both ends was fizzing (and was getting increasingly brown so I knew there was a rot issue but still) .
Oxidation indicates theres some life form at the site of fizzing. Ideally you see very little/no fizzing. And cut back until its not fizzing any longer
Yup, so drain to waste. Just like most typical plant pots with drainage. Water with hydroponic nutrient at every watering every 7-15 days (depending on pot size) th-cam.com/video/m7zAgiFKbfE/w-d-xo.html
No reservoir actually! Just Perlite / LECA in the pots with holes drilled in bottom. Water about 0.5 gallon every 10-17 days or so! (still determining my interval for the 12" pot size)
So with drainage holes and still every 2 weeks? My monsteras are in leca mixed with pon and doing it the way you are, I’m watering once a week. My rationale is that if I’m training them to be water roots, they should always stay semi-wet instead of totally drying out. Am I wrong to think this way??
Hey Carol!! Yup just run out the bottom of the pot without a reservoir. Our big 8” pots last 10 days without water, so this one should work! Will do an update soon 😄

Thank you, Shaun!

Sounds like an awesome mix!! It’s just sitting in the pot with drainage holes in bottom, and no water reservoir beneath. Works great!
@@prettyingreenHello, new guy here. Can you explain to me how that works? I thought with leca you should have water in the pot at all times?

True!

I want one that big! Lol. So beautiful!
They get so pretty when they're large :)
Great video! I will gradually convert my plants over to semi-hydro 😊

Learning tons from your videos. Thanks for the content!

Okay, so you're using no reservoir at home? Do you have a video on that? (I've got your video on no drainage with leca).

Guys what do you do with the aerial roots? Some people pot them in with the roots and some people say not too 🤷♀️
What do you pair the 12" 3D pot with holes drilled in it as a water reservoir?
No reservoir actually! Just Perlite / LECA in the pots with holes drilled in bottom. Water about 0.5 gallon every 10-17 days or so! (still determining my interval for the 12" pot size)
Will you be adding any type of support for your Thai to climb? I've been curious if a moss pole or other support would stay positioned in Leca.
I don’t think so since deliciosa kinda stands on its own well. But positioning a pole in LECA might be a little of a challenge

Ikr I was thinking the same. It’s one of those videos where you want a follow up video lol
Thank you!
Very informative video.
Thank you!
I ❤ your videos. How’s big mama doing? Is there an update video?
No update vid yet! But she’s doing great in my living room 😄
The hydrogen proxcide can you reply with link so I can buy some for mine thanks
At any walmart in the medical area.
Also the best hydroponics food you recommend that I can buy from online plz thanks
He'll probably recommend his. Many people use General Hydroponics tri-part.
@@AntoninJezek haven't tried , is it simple and good for most indoor plants
💚
My is 3yr and she is huuuuuge she is 5 feet long every one of my fam want me to cut her but i dont want to cut her each leave is 18 inch longs
Ahahahaha I get that! They get so big and beautiful, and take months to recover after a big chop chop!
Ha I have the same with my euphorbia, everyone wants a piece, but I don't want to cut it!
Big beautiful Thai! You just let the solution run off & not have a reservoir? It would be amazing if it lasts for 2 wks without a reservoir!
