- The last time we saw the Nintendo Switch we were very impressed with its repairability, and scored it an 8 out of 10. Today we’re tearing down the new version, the Switch Lite, and we hope it’ll be just as easy to fix. Only one way to find out though and that’s to tear it down.

That’s what I was wondering. I could see the changes meaning a one point drop, but this is much easier to repair than an iPhone.
Probably because more vendors can service the iPhone, and has more experience doing so. There'd be more parts on the market for iPhones too.

pretty happy to see that the important parts to swap out are easy to access (excluding the display). Hopefully it also means custom buttons and triggers can be made to swap out in the future
Watching this video two years later, I can confirm that many companies make custom housings and buttons for the switch lite that are easily replaceable. Just ordered a whole bunch of mods right off Amazon.

Can I replace the buttons without disassembling the motherboard components or can I lift it all out as one unit?
I was just wondering where you would recommend I find replacement parts for the left mini board of the left joy con system. I have not been successful thus far finding a replacement part for that particular board. I see plenty of motherboard replacements but none for the left joy con mini board. Hopping you can help with this.
What kind of solution was used to unstuck the adhesive on the battery? I'm quite stuck on this part. New to tech repair
I just wanted to know if I can replace the special edition white's buttons with the regular white buttons/sticks/dpad. So glad to know it's possible!

Can you access the bumper buttons without taking out any of the electronic components or battery? One of mine is totally stuck and I've had my switch 5 days...so I think something is just in there.
@ifixit Your link to the Switch battery kit in this video is for the regular Switch, not the Switch Lite. To avoid any mistakes or complaints I would fix that. Great video btw, thank you!

you’re doing God‘s work, first thing I did with my Moray was open up my ebay purchases switch lite and clean out the brown goop stickying up the triggers
If I get joycon drift and I have to fix it myself, how difficult would it be exactly!?!
Oh good, somehow I got some crud under my RZ button. I was worried I would have to take apart the entire thing. now I know I can just take off the back plate, clean it and be done. :D Thanks for the video!
I love the iFixit driver set, and it can tear down just about anything, but it can't fully disassemble a Switch Pro controller. The driver bits are too short
Any suggestions for fixing the SD card reader not working? I have found a lot on troubleshooting/fixing the switch but not the switch lite. It seems a lot more complicated since it is not modular/separate from the motherboard.
Such a breath of fresh air when the writting on the battery is japanese instead of Korean or Chinese.

The lite is so stylish and the colors for it are really great. I want one even though i already have a switch.
I just saw a video claiming the sticks and buttons on the joycons are bad quality and are failing for numerous users, where they've had to buy new joycons cause they break after about a year when the warranty runs out. Is that true? Are the components bad quality and failure prone?
before I get this did they fix the joystick problem or is it at least better than the original ones?
build quality seems to be way cleaner and compact than the first gen switch etc...
i have one, and to me it's also more comfortable and more like, solid feeling than the original switch. i think i prefer it, definitely for handheld mode. wish the screen was sliiiightly larger but it's not a bad size as it is
Hello, I was looking up the fix kit for the Nintendo switch joy con, and I was wondering if it’s compatible with the Nintendo switch lite. I have a problem where my joy con gets stuck in an input, so it’s not really joy con drift, but it is annoying.
Does anyone know if the speaker parts (just the black grills) that are on the back part of the switch are glued to it or do they come off if pushed?
If I were to do this, where can I locate the “taking captures” button? mine stopped working and I would love if it worked again of course. im not sure how to fix it :(

i got the new switch lite coral on april third.... the charging port is loose, is that something that's repairable?
where can i buy a replacement switch lite battery? I can't find it anywhere other than one sold out website.
So I changed the joystick under the smaller motherboard .. the white beside the grey speaker battery that the blue and red wire detach from the bigger white connection? The bigger white piece snapped off and idk what to do. Any advice? I'm freaking out I don't know how much it would cost to fix or if/how I can do it myself.
What to do if the power and volume buttons are 'sunk-down'? Can I pop them back up somehow? Is a spring loose or something probably?
Use isopropyl alcohol and a q tip. Just rub it around the button while pressing gently over and over and it should loosen
What screws did you use specifically for this one?

My switch lite came in today and won't show any wifi. I think the wifi antenna came undone. I really don't want to send it to Nintendo if I can do it myself. Will I need to redo my thermal paste if I'm just reconnecting the wifi antenna?
What can I do to remove a screw stuck in the motherboard like the screw is worn out so the screwdriver won’t get it out

Joe Callister Depends. Almost the entire flash storage is encrypted using keys that are unique to every device. So if it’s able to power on to some extent and it’s a hackable device or you already have/had the device unique keys, yes. Otherwise, no.
Can you move parts from regular switch in order to allow for tv connection?
The motherboard is different and doesn’t include the connection points anymore
If I remember correctly, Nintendo redesigned the switch light joysticks at some point... Would you consider making a video that showing what changed (if anything)?
The switch lite has always had the same Joysticks, they are the same switches as the 2019 switch, simply more durable components, I haven't as yet seen anyone with drift on a switch lite, if anyone has please leave a reply.

@@timothymartin5538 I got deadzone. and if i push it hard enough it will start to drift.
I got my Switch lite in Dec 2020, there are dead zones in the left joystick and buttons that stay pressed even when not. I remember playing rocket league for the first time and not being able to forward flip without jamming the stick all the way forward, even after changing the dead zone settings in the software. just looking at the stick at rest, the centering is way off.
The button sticking is new for me but it caused havoc in menus and during play.
I've since moved over to playing on my PC and well, it's nice to be able to actually see the ball down field with a larger screen. lol. but I'm sad because that's all I used my switch lite for.
Also when I was watching youtube on the lite. For some reason my screen got really hot, it also sank my batteries so something is up with the app or my device.

There's no difference, nintendo just changed the cpu

AppleToaster There’s no GPU chip. Only SOC chip containing the GPU unit. Basically the newer Switch uses the same chip with smaller transistor size for better battery life and slightly better performance.

I don't think the use of Tri Wing screws is that bad as nintendo always do this and its almost expected to get one. They aren't hard to get anyway online so its a small point.

How did you get the battery out? I've been following along because my right joystick is completely broken and needed a replacement but I cannot for the life of me get the battery out
You don't need the battery out with a joystick replacement on the lite.
The battery is glued down but will come up, perhaps not in a reusable state. It's not necessary to take it out to work on inside, unless it's the battery you need to replace of course.

BTW remember that the flat ribbon cables coming from the battery are held in place to the board by tiny plastic hinges that you need to swing up, then the cable will litterly fall out of the connector for you.

It takes a 2mm tri-head scew driver

So I just woke up. Turned on my switch and now a have a white spot where some pixels are lighter than others. Not sure how it even happened. I went to bed and it was fine. (Got my switch lite on black Friday so I had something to play while waiting to buy a ps4)
I am glad that switching stick is still very doable like joycon itself. I replaced stick for third party one myself on joycon not because of drifting issue but rubber nub on stick peeled off but it was impossible to actually fully stick that nub back into place. Mine got off by accident, but please DO NOT take that thing off yourself, you will not able to put it back on perfectly.
Having said that, Switch that can't switch have no use for me... Also I bought that huge Daemon X Machina joycon replacement, mainly because my big hand can't use joycon comfortably on the go. I can gladly sacrifice some portability for my ergonomics.

Doesnt it directly tell you to NOT do this is the SAPM? (System and Accessories Procautions and Maintenance)
