For some people they can play one game for the rest of their lives and beat it endlessly, for others, they can only play a game so many times before they get bored with the one game. Some honorable mentions that could have made the list depending on my mood include: Dark Wizard (Sega CD), The entire Ys series (MSX, Master System, Turbo CD, SNES, Genesis, PSP, PC), Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (PCE-CD), Metroid Fusion (Game Boy Advance), A Link to the Past (SNES), Link's Awakening (Game Boy), Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD), Lunar: Eternal Blue (Sega CD), Planescape: Torment (PC), Fallout 2 (PC), The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Warsong (Genesis), Shining Force II (Genesis), Shining Force CD (Sega CD), Phantasy Star II (Genesis), Phantasy Star III (Genesis), D&D: Shadow over Mystara (Arcade), Dark Seal II: Wizard Fire (Arcade), Samurai Shodown II (Neo Geo), Super Street Fighter II (Arcade), Mortal Kombat II (Arcade), and Ultimate Mortal Kombat III (Arcade).

This was a great list and could easily be mine as well. I'd only make one change - I'd swap OutRun 2 for Gran Turismo 2. Always liked this question. Never went 10 before. I also like to iterate no compilations or online games.
1: Chrono Trigger. My comfort food. Just have to play it every so often.
2: Fallout 4. I was late to the franchise and pick this one because I could build settlements for hrs when not playing the story.
3: SSX 3. Partly a nostalgic pick as so many great memories with my late wife.
4: Hot Shots Golf… let’s say 3 for same reasons as above.
5: WWE 2K14. Could pick a few different ones here (including No Mercy), but loved the Wrestlemania Mode and might have had my most favourite created roster.
6: NHL 22. Need a hockey game and skipped this year so why not🙂
7: Super Street Fighter II. Could be just about any SF, but this one holds a special place with me.
8: Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past. Who doesn’t like going back to this one?!?
    9: Red Dead Redemption 2. Because I haven’t died in yet😅
10: Persona 5 Royal. Another big game to eat up lots of time. And can just go to school when start going crazy! 😅

Ah, the classic "desert island games" scenario. This is always a fun one, so here are my ten:
    - Xenoblade Chronicles 2: I love this game's story and characters, but it also offers a vast open world, hundreds of side quests, and the randomized Blade system can change your playthrough everytime. On top of that,it has a New Game Plus mode with exclusive content.
    - Final Fantasy VI: Another favorite story, it also features tons of possible party combinations and a huge amount customization possibilities
    - Pokemon HeartGold: Pokemon is the king of replayability, and while almost any main series game could go here, HG's Battle Frontier facility pushes it over the edge
    - Mario Kart DS: A quick race of Mario Kart is always refreshing, and the extensive Mission Mode exclusive to this game is a treat.
    - Tales of Symphonia: Another RPG favorite, the game's affection system with fellow party members can change several minor scenes and even parts of the story on repeat playthroughs
    - Disgaea 1 Complete: Almost any Disgaea game could go here. You can grind, customize and min-max your units to absurdity, and the Item World randomized dungeon can create endless challenges.
    - Castlevania Symphony of the Night: Specifically, I would go for the newer version on PSP/PS4, so Richter and Maria would both be available as additional playthroughs.
    - Capcom vs SNK 2: Not only does it have tons of fighters and Grooves to learn and master, but the soundtrack is worth listening to all on its own.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the Duelist: I love TCG video games, and Yu-Gi-Oh is one of my favorites. This one has story modes for all of the TV shows, special challenge modes and thousands of cards to build your deck with
    - Persona 4: Like Symphonia, your actions and character relationships can heavily affect your playthrough, and New Game Plus lets you carry over stats and Personas unlocked

Quite a diverse list of games. So I have to confess that although I love Mario 64, I couldn't imagine making it one of 10 games to basically play forever. Mario 64 even has tons of replayability, but it's also a game I've played to death. I guess if I tried to perfect speed running it... but, nah, there are some games I've played too much and can only return to them once every so many years.

I am glad someone explained my love of MGSV the game has 100 of hour of game play and lot of variety... you have 100 of weapons at your disposal and can approach a problem different ways the base development and raiding of other people installations add rpg elements and their at least 60+ hours of lore of the universe from the cassette tapes given to you or found in the game....it gives you so much... I played 200 hours and still only have a 75 percent completion rate. .. people get hung up on their being no third act but the second act is a resolution of several plot elements

I get burned out on the same game, music, food, job, neighborhood… it’s hard to think of what games could stand the test of time for me. However, I have some:
    •Escape Velocity: Nova
    •Marathon: Infinity
    •StarCraft II
    •Civilization V
    •Virtua Tennis
    •Burnout III: Takedown
    •Halo 3
•Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
•Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
    •???
Why these games (and only 9)? Well, these are games that I feel like I already HAVE been playing and replaying for a long time, gave me really great entertainment that sequels and competitors merely try to live up to, and refuse to get worn out.
If you’ve never played EV: Nova… it’s essentially the perfect laptop game. The game saves every time you land your spaceship on a planet (which you might do a few times a minute), and you can pick up and play for as short or long a session as you desire. Great, near novel-quality writing and 8 storylines to follow, plus side missions and little secrets that unlock side missions and more flavor, plus it’s just fun to made tons of money as a trader, raiding pirates to capture the ultimate ship, and customizing your ship’s performance and armament. The core gameplay of 2D spaceships with thrust and inertia was cool in a simple and accessible yet satisfying and tense way. This game came with me through the lifetime of 5 computers, and I would still play it today if the developers hadn’t gone out of business and modern operating systems were backwards compatible.
Marathon Infinity has similar charm as the sprite-based DOOM series, but more mature with an unsettling dark Sci-Fi atmosphere, intricate and multi-path story that branches alternate universes and has some levels just for acknowledging the meta of you trying to find your way and overcome, plus it comes with Anvil and Forge… and just like the later Bungie games that had their own versions of Forge, these were tools supplied for making your own levels (which many people did, including total conversions).
StarCraft II also has an editor and an online arcade with tons of game variants, but honestly I love the base game and multiplayer. It’s almost like therapeutic weight-training for people with ADHD, being very stimulating but encouraging you to get better at multitasking, and multiplayer would be important to keep the game fresh and to keep me from being too lonely on a hypothetical desert island 😉
I’m not sure which Civ game to put here, so I just put the last one I bought. Honestly, I only played the Civ Revolution game for smartphones (iOS), but I played the ever loving crap out of it for years until the developer added bugs and then stopped updating it, and Apple dropped compatibility for it. Still, I’m sure that “just one more turn” and addictive nature translates to the PC version of Civ V, and it would be fresh for me to play at first but much deeper in gameplay once I get into it. Weird to list a game I haven’t actually played on my list, but it still feels like an appropriate choice for the scenario.
Virtua Tennis. A glorified but beautiful Pong? Well, this game certainly was deeper than Pong, but a sports game like this has a fun gameplay loop and you don’t have to worry about already knowing the plot twists of a story or having played through the whole thing already. Super great for couch-coop (hopefully I have or can make friends on this island, right?), also there is a neat career mode if I wanted something longer form to sink my teeth into.
When “I” think about fun racing games that are all about speed, adrenaline, and addiction, first to mind is Burnout 3: Takedown. It can get pretty challenging, and the career mode seems to be never-ending, but the moment to moment gameplay of risking near misses for extra boost power, slamming rival cars into big crashes, and the beautiful and colorful courses and tons of cars have a lot of variety. The only things are that I wish the camera was a bit higher off the ground and looking down at the car just a bit more so I can see the cars in front of me (without switching to the dizzying first person view), and I’m burned out on pretty much all the music (I only liked 2-3 tracks in the first place, but even those I eventually heard too many times). Oh, and Crash mode was really fun!
Halo 3. Yeah, the story is linear, so you wouldn’t think this would have much replay ability, but you can track down several Easter eggs, find skulls that make the game harder or different, and also just mess around with the sandbox (warthog jumping, vehicle commandeering, rare dialogue, jumping to weird places and trying to break the game). It’s the most complete package FPS game I have played so far (in my opinion), and I need that genre in my life. The music is ACE. The gameplay is ACE. Multiplayer? There is couch co-op, and there was something about this game’s multiplayer that made it feel like a sport, also the skill based matchmaking made games feel competitive but fair, and taught me to be a better gamer. The value of other’s Forge creations cannot be understated, and it was also just a great social “place” to hang out. The community around Halo 3 could not be understated, and it sprung right back up when Halo 3 was re-released as part of the Master Chief collection (but I haven’t played MCC yet, only have the Xbox 360 release). Reach’s Forge mode was better, and I loved ODST’s music, but only Halo 3 did every aspect of the game at an A grade quality, and I think the colorful graphics stand the test of time better than the earlier games or the more “realistic” later games.
CoD4 was such a great game, I was able to play it so much that the younger Zoomers out there might call me a Boomer (even though the baby boomers were my parents generation???). This to me is all about the multiplayer, the right feel of gunplay, and the arena of maps that were just the right balance of action dense and giving you enough room to make escapes or big flanking plays (also, it was easy to tell where to go to fight enemies). The story is Great the first few times, and I played around with the score-keeping “arcade” modes and veteran difficulty, but campaign does get old because of the boring enemy AI and linear story. But that multiplayer… so addicting!
Metal Gear V. For all the same reasons Sega Lord X gave. I have been picking it up occasionally for three years, and I still haven’t beaten it yet. It’s just fun to mess around, capture high-ranking enemies to join your army and build up your base, stealth-neutralize enemy bases, discover weird stuff like making your horse poop to make enemy trucks crash, sand-sliding in your “tactical” boxes, or tranquilizing enemies by shooting their alert “!” marks. It’s a crazy deep game!
That’s 9 games. I don’t even know what else I would pick to retire with, off the top of my head. I LOVE games, but there’s been so many good games that have come out but I haven’t even played yet, which might fit into this challenge well. Skyrim, X3: Terrain conflict, The Witcher 3, these are all must-play games that I own, but just like Civilization V I haven’t actually started playing them yet! In no small part, this is due to their highly addictive nature, and I’m sure I would get deeply sucked into them, possibly to unhealthy levels. That might be perfect for a “Desert Island 🏝 “ situation, though honestly we sort of had that kind of situation during the pandemic lockdown of 2020, and I spent that time diving into retro games I had missed before (SNES Classic and PS Classic), playing through the eerily prescient Death Stranding (also an amazing soundtrack!!!!), and feeding an addiction to the newer CoD: Modern Warfare and Warzone. Sometimes you need to break away from replaying addicting games so that you can play new games (and clear that backlog)!!!
