This is Bobby Hatfields song, make no mistake about it, Angelina did a nice cover, Elvis poured his heart n soul into it but nobody sings this song like Mr. Hatfield.
It is talent with a lot of practice to be great. That is what auto tune robs singers of. They can't reach true greatness. They don't have to give it their all because a machine is doing it for them.
I really wish I could watch one video of a classic performance without seeing whiny comments from bitter old Boomers complaining about auto tune. Get a life, you sad geezers. You ruined the economy and the environment; nothing to be proud of.
What is so impressive is that's its a live version and not a studio recording. The guy just walked on stage and sounded like that with 1965 microphone and amp.
Gotta be one of the most moving ballads ever voice of an angel. Never gets old and amazes those who hear it for the first time. pure talent cant touch this
This man had talent no gimmicks to his voice pure magic. many a GI loved this song while in Vietnam I thought of my love back home and made it back, RIP my fallen brothers who did not return. My love and I just celebrated of 50th Anniversary still love this song.
This is a "Live" performance done back 55 years ago in 1965. Composer's Alex North's (1910-1991) "Unchained Melody" never sounded so good then when the late great Bobby Hatfield (1940-2003) of the "Righteous Brothers" sung this with the beautiful instrumental arrangement of the "Andy Williams Orchestra." The string section of the orchestra is to die for. This performance alone has solidify Bobby Hatfield as one of music's greatest "Tenors" of all times. Rest in peace Bobby Hatfield. For you left us a great legacy of songs generations will come to enjoy and marvel...
I was 16 when this song came out. Didn t realize then how talented he was how perfect that love song was and that I now can listen to it over and over. And so appreciate seeing young people praise and recognize the most talented singer
That’s the emotive power of the legendary BOBBY HATFIELD (RIP 1940 - 2003) - arguably the greatest tenor singer EVER - his pronouncing and clarity is perfect. This was his 1965 masterpiece 👌
Beautiful reaction to Bobby Hatfield pouring his soul into every note in Unchained Melody, and melting all our hearts! Incomparable vocals- The voice of an angel RIP 💖 🕊 ⭐
The first high note was Perfection. Wait for it. How would you like to slow dance with a tender man like this? I was a teen in the 60's we need to bring back the sock hops.
This was before Electronics could adjust your voice to sound how they need you to. This was REAL RAW Talent, I remember when this version came out my sisters would just keep repeat playing it for hours. Back when men would sing with emotion to women not speak a phrase at them. But it never gets old, Thanks for the memory's.
I’m reminded by a famous radio personality who used the phrase, “Talent on loan from God!”…and y’all just heard it. Amazing rendition and made personal by Bobby as distinguished from the outstanding Studio cut.
The only one who captured our hearts until todate to sing this song. it was too perfect that your soul is being brought to heaven! oh wow an angelic voice really!
*The combination of his VOICE QUALITY, RANGE, CONTROL, VERSATILITY, EASE OF DELIVERY--->this is by far the BEST VERSION!!! Also he did not put on a SHOW by dancing or gyrating, allowing you to concentrate on the song. FINALLY, this performance was done in 1965, where there was no electronic apparatus to 'enhance' the voice. A singer in that era had to have 200% talent--->WHICH HE DEFINITELY HAD.*
The righteous Brothers always did solo songs on their albums and this one turned into a single that reach number one. A little history they both wanted to sing it and they flipped a coin Bobby hat field won. When Bobby recorded it Bill medley said he was glad he lost his coin flip
I have to say. I am 83 years old and it makes me so happy to see you young people looking back to my youth and realizing that our music was great then and even better today. Thank you. My thoughts. If you wonder why boomers hate AUTO TUNE so much, this is why. We miss the days when singers could actually sing! No tricks, no redos, no second chances, no auto tune, no nothing but his talent.
I'm 74 and I can remember dancing with that special girl to this song at our high school dances. This is why music such as this has lasted over 66-70 years.

Back in the day there were many "Crooners." Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, etc. They used singing to get to the hearts of women through romantic swooning. You were very receptive to swoon & this number is one of the most powerful. Many others too, Frankie Avalon, Andy Williams who hosted this show & Bobby's parents were in the audience.

Thanks Ovuada - this is Bobby Hatfield solo -- LIVE - I heard that he was nervous b/c his MOM was in the audience -- I'm sure she was proud! (there are other songs with the two in harmony - which are awesome.. although they are not actual "brothers") - what I really love about Bobby's performance here is that it seems to effortless - he does not strain or scream any of his notes -- just sings them straight out...
Bobby Hatfield dedicated this song to be a singing love letter from us guys over in VIETNAM at this time {1960s} to our wives and girlfriends back home , while there in country , we very rarely got a chance to just sit and write letters home , with trying to duck Bullets and incoming Mortar rounds , so I would occasionally just jot off a few lines that simply said "HONEY, IM OK, PLEASE LISTEN TO BOBBY , HE'S GONNA TELL YOU IN A SONG HOW I AM FEELING ABOUT YOU RIGHT NOW , GIVE THE BABY A KISS FOR ME , WAIT FOR ME , I'LL BE COMING HOME WAIT FOR ME ,I LOVE YOU BILLY
