    As a long time PHOTOSHOP user
    I'm glad for this tutorial.
    I just started using Affinity Photo
    and I was asking myself the same question about Smart Objects. Thanks.

    Hi Rich, I love your tutorials.Firstly, the audio and video are both very good, which is not the case in many, many of the other tutorials on TH-cam. Secondly, I love your way to not having it all perfect from the beginning, but making mistakes or trying out features as you go. Makes us, at least me, to see which way to correct obvious mistakes I certainly will make myself. Keep up the good work. Oh, BTW, do not change your pace in speach. It is so easy to follow you.

      Hi Jon Borersen, What a great compliment. I was not sure if people would accept me making mistakes and figuring out how to solve them, but I thought it was important to show the process. Your post encourages me to continue. Thanks so much.

      @@DigitallyFearless Hi. I like your videos a lot. Very instructive. However, I have a beef: A lot of us have never used Photoshop, and it would be great if you defined the subject matter first, then proceed to explain how to do it in AP. For instance, I have no idea what a Smart Object is. Why would you want to change an object into a smart object. Never had to do it in AP. Thank you.

    Hi Rich, I have a question. With regards to the Stock Photos section, is there any way that I can import my own photos into a similar browser in Affinity? A file browser plug in would be REALLY helpful. Thanks for the great videos.

    • @DigitallyFearless
      @DigitallyFearless  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a plug-in, but if your photos are in a folder you can open that folder and drag your photo in just like you do with stock photos.

    Really useful "how to" information took 2 minutes of this video

    Hey I don't think I'll get an answer on one year old video, but I'll give it a try.
    How do images work in affinity? I can see they somehow do not loos quality when I scale them down and then back up... Ar they already brought into the app as smart objects? I've been taught to always convert images into smart objects in photoshop, so that I can resize them as I please and I can't seem to find the opinion to turn it on or of in affinity.

      Images are already smart objects. I did a video on this. th-cam.com/video/3jOATQQGNDY/w-d-xo.html

    Is it the same process in Designer? As you mention Designer in the title?

      It's been awhile since I did this tutorial so I am not sure, but if I put the Designer logo up, then I would believe it is the same.

    How to change text colors for those images? Four images have black text color.

    • @DigitallyFearless
      @DigitallyFearless  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The same place you change the photo. Select the text and go to the colors section and pick a color.

    Who else think Serif should watchi this video? so they can implement this on the next update (it just need to be under-the-hood!)

  • @moreorlesslikeso

    Interesting! I actually do miss Smart Objects in Affinity Photo, so it's nice to have some workaround. Looks like this probably is in separate files what Photoshop does sort of "under the hood" when dealing with Smart Objects: having some files (the SOs) which are stored within the primary PS file instead of "outside".
    As the idea is really quite straightforward once you think of it I'd really wish AP will finally take the step and handle this in a similar way as PS in order to get rid of the "outside" files in favour of an integrated approach.
    Probably updating the file(s) will be a bit more fluent then, too. You possibly noticed that the thumbnails in the layers palette were sort of persistent although the corresponding "document" had been altered meanwhile.

      AF is still new. I am hoping that they add it soon. I also miss it. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks @digitally Fearless for this tips & tutorial!
      .
      I found (maybe) one workaround but limited to perspective *smart object* Using Live Filters on selected rectangle/oval etc (Which u need to save earlier as .afphoto file)..
      .
      As at now, i found nothing to customize "distort" especially on cylindrical objects.
      Cheers & Happy APing! ;)

    Why use such a "bad layout" and take 6 minutes of tutorial time to create it? This could easily be done ahead of time and the whole "layout" business done in a few seconds of tutorial time. Contrary to popular belief, our time is valuable, too, and we appreciate a succinct tutorial. This one, not so much.

    • @DigitallyFearless
      @DigitallyFearless  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of my viewers like that I don't plan ahead. Many have commented that they appreciate my thought process and my mistakes because others especially beginners will probably experience many of the same issues. You are correct that my tutorials may not be for you. They are not their to show layouts or refined projects. They only show beginners how a tool works.

    I'm abandoning Serif just because every basic tool tutotial has the word "almost" on it - I'm done, you can't work properly on theses apps.

    • @DigitallyFearless
      @DigitallyFearless  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Almost is used because Photoshop calls it smart object. In Affinity, if you import a photo it's already a "smart object" without having to do anything. You can scale it up or down without losing image quality. In Photoshop if you import and scale it you lose quality unless you first change it into a smart object. I used Photoshop for more than 20 years, but now Affinity is my go to photo editor.

      @@DigitallyFearless -
      Richard, firstly, I do understand what you are saying here - that unlike PS, when you bring an image into Affinity, it is automatically converted to a Smart Object, whereas in PS if you want a SO, you need to convert the image. However, your second sentence "you can scale it up or down without losing image quality" CONFLICTS with your opening spiel at the top where you say "They can be resized without losing resolution as long as they are not LARGER than the original".
      Which is correct?
      Tony

      @ghost_of_a_dead_poet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ausfan100 well I'm not an expert, but I don't think it contradicts, I feel like you never loose quality in affinity.
      The only problem is making it larger than the original... You can never get more pixels in the actual image reliably (there are some tools I believe, that aren't perfect) .

    • @DigitallyFearless
      @DigitallyFearless  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have used Photoshop since the first version. In both Photoshop and Affinity, if you scale an image larger than the original, it has to make up similar pixels. For the best quality you should never scale up larger than the original pixels, but both apps allow you to do it.
