trying to figure out how Karate Combat has gotten to the point where they have Crypto influencer fights, only 3 actual Karate practitioners on a card, and has become just MMA standup with weird rules
Yeah, it was always gonna happen, there are only so many karate fighters who would want to fight in this org.
Not really surprising though. The number of karate fighters who transition to professional combat sports was always gonna be limited because there are well-established, technically deep competition circuits for that, and people mostly stick to it. The same goes for judoka, boxers or sanda practitioners, even sambists to some extent. You'll always see a comparably lower number of people from those sports transitioning to MMA or something comparable. BJJ is the obvious exception because BJJs global expansion was always tied to vale tudo and the creation of the UFC, however, in modern sports BJJ you also see fewer and fewer people getting interersted in adapting their style to MMA and full contact combat sports.
@@honigdachs. I never thought about it, but it makes so much sense. It's not exactly motivating to train in a sport just to adapt it and then train for another sport.
I wondered the same thing until 4:00 when they explain it exactly… actually seems like a decent thing to figure out, how to take some direction from fans over the fight structure.
it had a change in leadership
Would you like to see more muay thai fighters in Karate Combat?
Yes 👍 Hopefully they adjust the rules surrounding low kicks. Maybe just make oblique kicks illegal.
Ban all combat sports except MMA with ONE FC ruled. THE talent is scattered throughout different combat promotions that have different rules. Fights should be open weight short notice.
Bruh, not everyone wants to do MMA @@Toddpicogram-aka-Satan

Karate combat is basically pro Sanda rules now. Get the Sanda guys in here!!!
they can bill it as Karate vs Kung Fu? 🤣
They already have a bunch of them. I agree that the Karate Combat format as it is now is 100% applicable to Sanda, and when you look at Shahzaib Rindh (who is a Sanda stylist) and his run in KC so far, it's nothing short of impressive, he's doing really well.

I'd like to see more Karate based fighters being added, KC is becoming just another kickboxing org.
This seems more like a stand up dominant mma. Or shoot-boxing
Karate basically is kickboxing it all came from the same place
@@Brandon-up7sg true, but the main point was to display talents from styles like Shito-ryu, Uechi-ryu,etc. it just seems like it's massively shifted on that premise
@@zenmartialartist701 they do what they need to do to stay relevant and get people tuning in. There’s still plenty of karate guys there. But very few will tune in to watch them so they’re now putting big names on the poster which gets people tuning in. Otherwise they’d end up out of business
Maybe there isn't a lot of fighters from those point fighting karate style that wanna fight full contact. There are probably tons of Kyukushin fighters, but they pretty much fight like Kickboxers.
Eddie Farrell is a solid fighter. No elbows is ridiculous
I mean 99% of People doesn't know Karate have Takedowns and Grappling because of Sport Point Karate that focus more in striking, Ancient Karate have Grapplings skills.
3 amazing fights! Great upload. I would love to see more muay thai fighters in Karate Combat.
I like the Clash of styles. Remindes me of times I missed when there was such a thing like sumo wrestlers at the UFC ^^
Keep mixing them up :)
Kind of weird that all the Muay Thai fighters we're given short notice to prepare for this fight. Almost as if they wanted the karate athletes to have an advantage of facing an opponent who wasn't able to have a proper fight camp.
Of course man, how else are they going to make the token buying fans happy. The favorite has to win. St Pierre is almost saying as much when he keeps calling the rounds for the shittier fighter just because they are the favorite. Also Karate seems good at running away, which is great for self defense i guess,
KC execs knew what they were doing with these matchups. It’s fun to watch and very welcome, but you can’t have “Karate vs Muay Thai” matches and then put restrictions to one of them.
This is what KC did. Karatekas can still use ground and pound yet Nak Muay aren’t allowed elbows.
Muay Thai stylists still struggle with the takedowns
@@AroundElvesWatchUrselves96 Not if you allow elbows from all positions and give the MT fighters time to train takedown defense.
@@chriskerwin3904 I seriously think the dumbest thing in the world is to complain about a ruleset that a fighter agrees to fight under. We can get mad a the promotion all we want but, the fighters chose to come to the promotion and sell out/ represent their art form. It makes more sense to admonish them for that
People who actually keep an open mind tend to study from other disciplines and add to their knowledge. Unfortunately, there's so much ignorance within practitioners of both arts that provoke incomprehension between one another.
I think it was a good opportunity to showcase the beauty and the effectiveness of both martial arts, regardless of the results
This is true but this is karate rules, mma is a better show case of which martial arts is the most useful and functional.
the ruleset defines what "style" is going to work best, people put way too much thought into trying to make these comparisons. Muay Thai works really well if you can't be taken down or hip tossed i.e. MT rules. Karate is better for applications that benefit from a wider stance and give you room to back away quickly. Either way, the rules will dictate what techniques and tactics will work the best, secondary to the skill of the athlete.
Real talk man. It's been like this for too long.

I like karate combat but sometimes, not all the time, It can be 1 sided.
I’d say it’s my number one favorite to me it’s better then one championship
They Should Allow Elbows and Ground and Pound ilimited that would be fair for Karate and Muay Thai and no one would cry about rules.
The 2nd match at 17:24, the ref and the organization(?) pretty much cheated for the karate guy. The attempted gnp lasted 20 secs. Usually it goes for about 5 only. Even GSP and Bas commented on it.
The 5 second rule is gone, it was already removed a while ago.
What I’d really like to see is the Rule book opened up, Kata has Elbows, Chokes, Takedowns and Joint Locks embedded in them, make a rule set similar to MMA expect limit clinch and ground time to 20 seconds
That would be mostly a domination for karate then.
There is some old 1950 60s or 70s Karate vs Muay Thai footage where usually the Muay Thai fighters won at stand up but there was a match where about 2/3s of the karatekas won with many using throws.
What? What are you talking about? It'l be a win for Karate?
Let's do Aghyaev VS Tawanchai or Superbon. Leg kicks allowed. The very moment Karate Combat allows Leg kicks, the point stylists will lose against top elite level Thais
And I say this as someone who has medals in WKF kumite
@waterlegend72 I'm saying Karate as in the style. Karateka's these days generally don't train takedowns at a competitive level.
Why are you bringing up kickboxing events? Muay Thai guys generally destroy karate guys, yes, but bring takedowns back, and it becomes much more even. If a Muay thai guy does takedowns, that is unambiguously not Muay Thai.
Muay thai guys are bad against takedowns. Muay thai does not train against takedowns. Karate is a massive umbrella term of styles and sports, and some branches include takedowns. So a karateka doing a takedown may be from karate.
There is a bit of unevenness here. Take an elbow away, and it is no longer Muay Thai. Take away takedows, and it's may or may now be karate anymore because, again, karate is a large umbrella term.
Again, refer to old footage of karate guys taking down Muay Thai guys. Takedowns make a difference.
Why don't you fight yourself need so much
It's interesting how much the pit & ruleset favor the high mobility of the karate fighters. Muay Thai has the ring and the "don't back up" scoring system. This gets more interesting if the karate fighters are penalized for not engaging. (Also gets more interesting if the refs know what the rules are!)
Is low kick to thigh allow ?
No elbows ? What nonsense. That isn't Muay Thai then. Should call it Karate vs Kickboxing instead
righttt? and they also allowed ground game wtf, that's sooo fair for Muay Thai alright lol
Muay Thai its not just elbows.
Yes
I genuinely believe the organization needs to sit down and solidify its ruleset for everyone. With so many special scenarios for matches, I must admit that it’s hard to watch the fights without constantly questioning if said technique was allowed mid-match or not.
For sure the biggest discrepancy for me is what EXACTLY warrants a stand-up from the ground. The 2nd fight definitely shows that inconsistency when the ref allowed the ground-and-pound for much longer compared to the other matches.
I would like to see more

The camera work in Karate Combat is horrible.. there is no reason to have the camera that far away from the fighters most of the fight. 🤬
hard agree, the zoom out is horrible and so unnecessary
Bro why is everyone so salty in this comment section.
Sorry but nothing “Muay Thai” about these 3 guys. Put in superlek vs daniels and it would be a different story. An elite kick-boxer as well, holzken and valtellini have shown how to beat a karate style.
Ironic that Holzken's trainer is a Kyokushin black belt
@@AroundElvesWatchUrselves96 Probably why Holzken knows how to deal with them when meeting in the kickboxing ring
@@AroundElvesWatchUrselves96 Muay Thai fans like to take credit for anything successful in martial arts without knowing the history

Find Saidyokub Kakhramonov's inclusion as a "freestyle karate" guy funny. In MMA/the UFC he was a pace wrestler/grappler.

Wouldn't it make sense to make the Katate guy wear the gi jacket as well. And have all the regular karate combat bouts be in a full gi that would make it very interesting with clinch work from a striking, sweeping, & throwing perspective. It would also make it different from mma. Otherwise if you keep changing the rules people are going to just say its mma in pants with a few limits
Also make the gis look not so stupid with the whole cyborg sci fi designs they could keep them more trad but have basic designs & contrast
no Thai men?
as a karate guy the muay thai fighter won that second fight
The rules favor KARATE...
How? Upper thigh low kicks have been added and unlimited cliche with striking was added to accommodate Thai practitioners.
Why ?
@@stephenellis6601 i think the rules seem kind of fair based on the occasion but the lack of elbows and more importantly the ground game is a big disadvantage to thai fighters. learning to check leg kicks is also way easier than learning ground grappling and how to defend against throws and takedowns that aren't included in muay thai. there is also the different gloves and arena that even if it doesn't seem like it, make a huge difference, especially the arena. i'm not using this as excuses cuz if u go there and agree to the rules you can't complain but i'm just doing a fair assessment of the situation here.
How so? Elbows were the only thing that wasn't allowed (which they also aren't in standard kickboxing, which MT fighters regularly dominate) and the third fight was the only one where they would have been applicable. In the 2nd fight elbows wouldn't have made a difference and in the 1st fight the dude who won certainly didn't allow for that.
@@metalface_villain not shure If you know this but karate also has elbows, ok lower focus on that than muai Thai but they have. Its called hiji-ate.
Muay Thai VS Karate, but thai guys cant use elbows, knees or low kicks. Alright, then 😂
Besides, it is clear that when the karate is mounted, he can stay there freely, while the thai guys can stay mounted for only 5secs...
I mean, if we're going to do those special matches, this shouldn't block the weapons of the other guys... 😅
เจอเข่ามวยไทยเป็นไงครับ
KC needs to brief their refs.
Overall, the idea of combat karate is great. But some of the rules of Karate Kombat are ridiculous. Why are low kicks allowed only in these fights? Because Muay Thai fighters are represented here? Then low kick should be allowed for representatives of such karate styles as Kyokushin, Ashihara, etc. Otherwise it won't be fair. These rules are made for the convenience of styles like Shotokan karate and similar point fighting styles.
The pit was invented to make it more convenient to avoid direct confrontation in a fight, which turns fights into catch-ups and jumps.
And of course, the terrible design of the pants)
Why TF does the Karate guy in the thumbnail have an OnlyFans sponsor on his shorts? 💀

Why MMA Is Invented
I think Muay Thai got caught off guard with ground and pound and take downs. I didn't know it was allowed.
muay thai cant elbow?
When the muay thay fighter lose against a karate guy they always cry about something, "oh no but the rule set" "oh no but the size of the gloves"
In this show they dont alow elbows, thats sucks, but they think that this is putting in disadvantage just the muay thay guy, but thats not true, because karate also has elbows (its called "hiji-ate") and we could also use low kicks, they use in kyokushin.
About the gloves i know that in muay thay competitions usually they use boxing gloves, but the karate gloves look more like the mma gloves than the boxing gloves and also they alow grappling which is allowed in the fight.
so you mean there are many people who wanna show how Muay Thai is weaker than their martial arts in a match with their edited rules righttt?👍

“Making some concessions by not being allowed to use elbows” is extremely misleading. That’s like 20% of that total rule differences between Muay Thai and KC.
These matches are rarely compelling, because you take one guy, neuter his style, and pin him against someone whose profession aligns precisely with the fight rules.
Only exceptions I’ve ever seen to this are boxers who start doing karate and enter amateur tournaments. They can seriously outscore their opponents with jabs and footwork.

I want to know how in all hells that split decision went to Souza? Running away the whole fight, barely striking and then stumbling away with hands down and zero gas in the tank. Then the ground and pound with no reset for like 15 seconds. Karate combat seems rigged.
At least in these fights, to me, it seems the Karate guys are good at exactly two things. 1: Moving backwards, and 2: Lucking into a fall on top of their opponent and then ground and pounnding. gg
Georges St-Pierre is either blind, watching the wrong fights, delusional or in on the grift. He keeps calling the rounds for the Karate guys who walk backwards and miss all the shots. Guess thats what scores in KC. But it makes sense i guess, the tokens or whatever that shit is decides the favorite and kc don't want to upset the fans so they give the favorite a handicap based on the tokens received, i bet its like that. A grift.
Also, the fact that it went to a sudden death round, in the raymond daniels fight is crazy, Farrel was dominating the whole fight. I don't know @GabrielVargaOfficial, you are better than this promotion and i would love to see you in something serious like ONE instead of whatever this meme promotion is supposed to be.
If you say someone is good at "luckying into a position", that just means you are either not seeing what is happening or looking for an excuse
Because karate combat just wants to make their organisation look good

How can you call this Muay Thai when you don't allow elbows? And Muay Thai isn't the same as having an opponent fall or lie on the ground. It's really disgusting. I don't think karate will take advantage of this rule.
The dumbest rules in standup
It’s not Muay Thai if you can’t throw elbow. At this point it’s just called kickboxing with clinch. If elbow were allowed I’m pretty sure the karate practitioner would be lights out. elbow play a big part in Muay Thai.
Stylistically, you clinch, punch and kick with the shin and you swing it like a bat instead of snapping it.
That's still muay thai.
@@toyoseries bruh it’s not Muay Thai if you can’t throw elbow. It’s just a kickboxing match with clinch and ground and pound. You can’t sweep or hold legs kick like Muay Thai and they took out the elbow.
Technically speaking, this isn't really karate either, as the promotion prioritises finding those with a point-style background and giving them a platform. The no thigh kick rule and lack of elbows and weird knee ruling makes it more difficult for other full-contact karate styles to try to adapt.
@@pumaloc3584muay thai is not just elbows, you know this right? And talking about that i got to say that karate also has elbows.
