Bought a new XV a month ago after considering a CX-3, CX-5 and Kona. Happy with my choice. Driven it mostly around suburban/city streets so far here in Sydney and the steering, suspension (our roads aren't the best) and acceleration are doing the job nicely. I have headed out of Sydney a couple of times and been on higher speed motorways and highways that included significantly steep long mountain inclines. The Subaru worked to keep up with cars doing 100+ up the hills but did it with the accelerator pedal 1/2 way and not a great increase in engine noise. It returned 6L/100km on these longer trips.

6L/100km sounds too good, my new 2.0L was doing consistent 11L/100km during the first 1000km and I only recently started to see 9L/100km. Still hoping to see some better economy in the future. Otherwise it's been great.

Yeah Subaru don't even claim the XV can do 6L/100km (not even the new hybrid) - sorry there's no way your XV did that

Nice little review! I purchased my new XV here in Brisbane two weeks ago and so far I'm really loving it! I haven't driven it off road yet, however I have taken one owned by Subaru I test drove up some quite steep dirt tracks and found the X-Mode worked extremely well. My favourite feature of the new XV is the adaptive cruise control - it works unbelievably well right down to 0km/hr. Having a car automatically brake for you is so unnatural, but it never failed. It holds the car behind the car in front perfectly at all speeds up to 110km/hr. The only thing this car can't do is automatically stop for red lights lol.

As a 6'4" person I am grateful for a review that mentions the space for taler people. And as an Aussie purchaser... this is a great review ... seen a few and love the look.. will be booking a test drive. Will be used around town mostly but longer trips are inevitable and wondering how this will fair.

For most buyers in the UK, I would imagine the power to be more than adequate. If you want a fast car, buy a fast car instead. Its not a young persons car, and mature buyers who are familiar with the Subaru brand will buy this because of what Subaru stands for.

    • @ForgotMyOrange
      @ForgotMyOrange 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not really about going fast, in terms of sporty driving, it's about torque - passing a car doing 95km/h or going up a long steep incline at 80km/h - how long it takes, how frustrating it is etc

Australia is lucky they get the red version.
Yes more power would always be nice.

Excellent commentary, gives good insight on the car. Hope they improve engine options. A turbo diesel would be ideal.

Great review. I almost made up mind go with XV 2018. I also don't see power as a problem in Melbourne.

Great review - clear and concise. Thanks for the info. A couple of questions that no one seems to address in these reviews: What are the lights like? How easy will it be to add driving lights? Cheers!

Great, thanks! Lighting is something that is not always considered. You can only drive as far and as fast as you can see!

Nice review. This is on the list for my wife’s new car. Will only ever get around town so can’t see the power issue being a problem. The size of the boot could be a problem if we didn’t have a Prado as the family chariot. Day to day shopping is fine and if the kids bikes need to be transported then the rear bike carrier is the go. Economy and safety seems to be the game here and the all wheel drive is just a bonus for a town car that may venture onto a dirt track every now and then. Red, white, blue, not an issue unless you spend more time looking at it than driving the thing... :)

If you want more power, go for the XT Forester. I wouldn't mind one of these though as they don't need Premium fuel, so cheaper to run.

      The Subaru manual recommends Premium.

Test drove the 2.0 Ridge. I think this car has enouch power. I didn't like the feel of the steering wheel, think I need time to get used to it since I've always been driving my Levorg which has a leather based steering wheel. A great plus with the XV 2018 is that the CVT is alot more silent compared to my 2016 Levorg.

I found the previous generation crosstrek, noisy to the point that I sold it before my lease was up. It nice looking but putting miles on it is definitely not a pleasant experience- too much NHV and not enough power. I have a Maxda CX 5 now and it is a pleasure to drive compared to the crosstrek

I have a Trek mountain bike with 29 inch tires and it will not fit in the back of my Crosstrek even with the front wheel dismounted.
