It's nice to know the company knows that there is still people who prefer Manual over automatic, and not because it's cheaper but because we like the feeling manuals gives us
This is one of the best 2018 Subaru Crosstrek videos that I have seen! Great job, great car. I can't wait to get my new 2018 in October. And for all the acceleration freaks who think this car is underpowered, just go and buy a WRX and stop whining!
You can barely pass people on the highway or get up to speed efficiently with a fully loaded car. I still don't know why it doesn't have more power. We owned a 2014 XV for its first 20k miles.
I've just drove home from the States, (live in Canada) and I drive a 2012 Yaris 5 speed, 2 people, full car of goods and food, and I've had no problem passing anyone with the 102 HP I have, with all the weight. Just dropping a gear or 2, I don't know about a CVT but that Manuel would probably be deadly 😍
I test drove one a month ago. I love the look and hoped it had more power too. I thought it would be sluggish, etc., especially with CVT but no, not at all. Neither the car's power nor CVT disappointed. Coming from a truck with 300+ HP, I was impressed with this vehicle and for the money, you could do a lot worse.
The disadvantage is under power. This vehicle is not meant to be driving fast. It’s economical and outdoor lifestyle. I’ve heard people complaining about power but then again when they buy STI or WRX they complain about gas mileage.
I got a charcoal metallic 2018 Limited. I am very glad I held out and waited for the new platform. This new Limited is awesome. Feels like a lot more than 152 HP as well. The gauge cluster/UI in center of dash and on the display screen is very very well designed by Subaru. My new limited at night lights up like a Christmas tree...
Yes I did. Not only does it feel faster than the 1st gen it IS faster than the 1st gen. The CVT in the 2nd gen is one of the best CVT's I have ever driven. The 1st Gen CVT was nothing but slop in my opinion. It is now far easier to load up my new Limited with the rear hatch no longer tapering inwards at the bottom. My friends 1st gen has been back to Subaru twice already for oil leaking from the engine. He never told me what failed in order for his engine to repeatedly leak oil. New gen has better gas mileage. I could go on and on. Still Crosstrek's are not meant to go hunting for Porsche's. The new exterior all LED lighting especially in the rear are far superior than the 1st gen.
What do you people have with the turbo? subaru makes car that last long, turbo add complications and things that can fail. Keep it simple and will last forever.
@@VDJ4500 I have a Subaru Forester 2,5XT (=turbo) 230HP and I love it. Still going strong after 200000km; if you treat them well they last. I'm in the market for new car and the only draw back I see is the XV's lack of power. Kinda boring.
Dude, that loose rock hill climb was sick, very impressive, that CVT might make me a manual convert, would love to see the 6 speed off road though (my '08 Outback is a 5sp).
Heated steering wheel should be in US models as well. I live in the Northeast and it gets very cold in the winter , especially in January and February. It is found on the Mazda CX3 Grand Touring in the US.
yes! It doesn't make any sense they do not offer heated steering wheel in the US. It doesn't make any sense! Is it some kind of punishment? ................... ( fill up with your own curse words)
Great review. Will be trading in my 2012 XV (here in Australia) for the 2018 model sometime soon. Still happy with my 2012 after many outback adventures in up to 47degree heat. Great touring car. Would love tyres with more sand grip though.
Cool video. I just purchased the 2018 crosstrek premium with cvt. I really like the smooth suspension and the stereo system. I switched from a 2007 mazda cx7 awd turbo and the difference in fuel economy is significant. Sure I lost all the horse power from the mazda but, I can live with that. I am glad the crosstrek does not have a turbo, I ended up having a leaky turbo in the mazda and cost me a bit to replace it. Anyways I am glad I made the switch.
I’ve been looking at this car for a bit and man watching this video has me sold I’m okay with it not having tons of power I mean hey I’m sure the after market will make plenty of go fast goodies for this thing but as an out the box vehicle I think it does great I’ll be going on a test drive in one of these soon with the six speed even without xmode I’m sure doing it the old fashioned way won’t be to difficult to sum it up great review and I’m digging this new Subaru
Not sure the performance on the street has ever been an issue. I'd much rather see some off-roading capabilities improved. Try disconnecting the front and rear sway bars and do these off road trails again. SO much better/funner/easier.
I love our limited 18. It does definitely lack some things and we hate the Canadian market they get the CGK with two tone leather that we don't get in the US over all that's one big thing we do not like. Others are power once in a rare occasion it lags when we need it. We wish the cargo was a tad bit wider to fit our double stroller better. But it fits two car seats and I can fit between them at 5'5" and 150lbs I am not big so I fit. The mpg could be a tad bit better a couple MPG better considering the low HP other higher HP vehicles that can light off-road claim to get similar milage with more cargo and passenger space. If we were to do it again we may go for an 19 adventure Rav4 but that can be near 10k more in price. Overall it's a darn nice vehicle and I may take it over so we can get a bigger family hauler. I currently drive a full size truck and use it when camping and fishing I make it work some times. I really think this could be a fun adventure vehicle with a couple upgrades.
I think they should have gone a step further and equipped these vehicles with underbody protection as well as reducing that front overhang. Otherwise, it looks like a decent vehicle to do some light off-roading.
Just got a 2020 Limited earlier today and it's obviously too early to tell, but I can say that it's PLENTY of power. It has no problem getting up to speed and moving. You won't win any races, but then again it's not made for racing, anyways. I'm actually shocked by how planted and flat it feels when cornering.
Space and control are what I want but not a large vehicle. I think it will be great for the winter trips I like to do. Never had a Subaru but I hope I like it.
You will like it. I have an 09 Forester and I have not had any problems. Great on the snow and sand. I drove a 2016 Crosstrek for 2 months and it was nice, the new one is even better.
hopefully it handles better than the 2018 Outback 2.5i with upgraded tires. Not impressed with body roll and the way the suspension and tire bounces off manholes and and other bumps with light steering input

Hi, I love this car except the engine response, do you classify weak, slow or both? I know that it is slow but I don't how much hill power does it has. I live high altitude place so I'm a little worried, 2600 Mt above sea level. Greetings from Colombia!
Fuel injection has made a huge diffence.Speaking from experience owning a 2018 XV overtaking at altitude is more than adequate compared to most of the vehicles now on public roads.Look mate you'll still pull a chick even if altitude make dicks smaller.

My current lease (FWD Golf manual) ends in 2 years and I am now anxiously looking at rumours, hoping the next WRX will be available as hatchback or that at least there will be a Forester with manual transmission and interesting engine. I want AWD and hatch/SUV practicality, but I love driving manual too much to buy a CVT... Well, there's also the Golf R, but it's pricey. It is getting difficult buying manual cars...
I'd say your best bet would be winter tires. AWD will help you get up hills much easier and have better takeoff from a stand still but for maximum traction winter tires are the only option even with AWD. I live in NH and run all seasons all year but we don't get a ton of ice. I own a Forester.
it will do better than a front wheel drive vehicle off the line. for icy roads you should get yourself a set of winter tires anyway. AWD alone has no effect on braking distance.
I am looking to change my 2013 Jeep Patriot (5-spd manual). I like to drive rough, forest service roads, much rougher than what is shown in these videos, with long, steep rough sections. Is the X-mode make up for a low gear for steep offroad? I like to tow trailer (go to lumber store and dump). Would this be good replacement or maybe Forester XT? or Nissan Frontier Pro-4X?
X-mode simulates locking differentials, not so much low gear. However, the CVT can stay in its lowest setting if you need. I have similar requirements to you and am looking into the Forester XT instead because of the power and still great fuel economy.
Got mine end of May - 2019 Sport. Now 1.5 months in and we hate it. Cabin noise levels on ashphalt/concrete highways is unbearable after a 2 hour drive. It’s going to be a long 3.5 years in my lease. Will see if I can get rid of it before.
Seems very sluggish up that hill, imagine with a full load? Did you guys drive carefully or the car simply doesn't have any steam? I also wonder why you didn't use better off-road tires. The wheels are slipping...
Shameful how Subaru treats the front passenger; poor seating; poor storage, etc.No heated steering wheel for U.S.? That will go over real well with folks in all the northeast and north central states this winter.
This car is priced too expensive! Fully spec out it’s $40k Canadian. Base with manual has no heated seats but they include Apple car play and android auto with big screen as standard, hello? It’s cold in Canada Subaru!
The lady just bought on, much quieter and it doesn't feel like it's struggling to get around, looks nicer in our opinions to but that depends on if you like the future look look or old school look the old model has
This is by far the best Crosstrek review on the internet.

WRX isn't offered as a high-clearance hatch that gets over 30MPG and has roofrails. Crosstrek 2.5L is a bit better.

What are your criteria?
Are the Subaru Crosstrek and Hyundai Tucson in the same category? I would like your honest comparative analysis of these two cars in terms of performance, safety, quality, and value for money.
no, it is not, tucson is bigger.
tuscon competes with the CrV, rAV4, etc. thats now to say that the amount of room in the crosstrek is much less. in fact, theyre pretty comparable there. the tuscon is faster with much crappier fuel economy, and a not as good AWD system.
Honda’s don’t compare to Subaru’s just period.

+Row Nu later this year I promise :)
Which wheels are on the Cool Grey Khaki model at 1:20? I like those better than any wheel I've seen on any Crosstrek, including my '15! :)
those wheels come standard on the base and touring (Canada) models, the sport and limited come with the starfish ones.
Any idea if they'll offer a more powerful engine in the near future? I need a new car and this one checks all the boxes except for the puny engine.
unlikely. get the forester XT if you want something faster.
Has the new 2018 Subaru Outback received this global platform update?
not yet. only the crosstrek and the impreza so far.
Did you take a manual off-roading or did you just get to drive the premium model
The wanted us to test the X-drive system that is only offrered with the CVT.
We will try the Manual one this summer ;)
It needs 1.6 turbo (170hp) from the Levorg.
better a 2.0 turbo and manual transmission, both the forester and xv (crosstrek) should get that option.
@agenciaLT
That would b less sensible, much less fuel efficient and probably too much for such car.
sic22l better yet, the diesel boxer for longer fuel tank range and more torque.
My current lease (FWD Golf manual) ends in 2 years and I am now anxiously looking at rumours, hoping the next WRX will be available as hatchback or that at least there will be a Forester with manual transmission and interesting engine. This car is priced too expensive! Fully spec out it’s $40k Canadian. Base with manual has no heated seats but they include Apple car play and android auto with big screen as standard, hello? It’s cold in Canada Subaru!
Exactamente
Anybody with a brain would hit that hill, with some speed and let momentum carry you up the hill...and yea it needs a turbo model
SUBARU Turbo, turbo turbo, turbo please
Too bad no turbo
Turbo for this vehicle would achieve nothing except create a higher price point.Fuel injection has made a huge difference.
Less attractive than earlier versions, and those weren't saying much
highwaymaintainer but that's your opinion so who cares.
Edward Bernard and I could care less if you spent your money on one, so what's your point
So why comment?
because he wanted to like it but he cant seem to bring himself to
sorry, no HP no buy
You forgot to mention the ugliest wheels on any vehicle made.
HORRIBLE REVIEW
Horrible from you to say that without arguments! Shame on you!
The lady just bought on, much quieter and it doesn't feel like it's struggling to get around, looks nicer in our opinions to but that depends on if you like the future look look or old school look the old model has
