I watched the making of this film, I've heard that the producers wanted that the scenes between Candyman and Helen were powerful, so they hired a true hypnotist for the actress who plays Helen to be hypnotized for the scenes in which she are in contact with Candyman. On the part 2:06 when she is weeping, she is under hypnosis.
Yep...she says as much in the film commentary. She said everything got really dark when she was under hypnosis. But I wonder if it was even worth to hire the hypnotist I mean, it would have been nothing at all for her to let her face go slack and have someone apply a fake teardrop on her face just before the camera began rolling. The producers were pretty generous on this film.
It's more about the fact that a seemingly disembodied voice is calling her name in surround sound. LOL. Up until this point in the movie he's just been a legend, so this was our first intro to him along with Helen.
