I am 53 and retired at 50. 1 thing I did do to retire early was to get out of the 401K and IRA programs. Bought rental real-estate and I am now a Limited Partner in about 1500+ units from collabrative efforts in the fund my estate planner has me invested in. I do not work
I only contribute 5% to get full company match, that's it. The 401K plan is designed for you to work until you are about dead. Also, the government does not have their hands on it yet either
My wife and I live off of our 401K. We don't work. I recommend highly to everyone to build your 401K or Roth IRA's as an alternate revenue stream in retirement to your Social Security. An observation on 401K's is when it gets over 300K it starts to accelerate. When you get over 500K it can really accelerate as the stock market grows

Most things at the Villages are still available in surrounding cities. some of the reviews show lots of fees to live there more than other locations. Do your research....
Our friends moved there and loved it until she developed a heart condition and the "friends" they met, didn't want to be around someone with health problems because they were there to party and have fun and she became the buzzkill that reminded them that they weren't in high school but were senior citizens only a step away from serious health issues themselves. After she died, her husband moved back to North Carolina to be near real friends and family.

Just call the sales office and inquire about a lifestyle visit..I visited here 7 times...approx 6 mos time spent before purchasing a home. Yes you pay for the lifestyle here, but if people think the prices are out of line why are there people moving in daily...obviously they see the value in living here. It is a great place to live!
The Villages is so far inland that usually they will get tropical storm winds that cause minor damages. As far as water and flooding the very low spots like the tunnels will hold some water and the ponds but nothing major.
Water management is designed so that the retention ponds, golf courses and nature preserves get the excess water. Neighborhoods will not likely flood. Hurricanes and tornados are a risk, which is why insurance rates are going up.
I regret moving to The Villages. My neighbor smokes medicinal pot on a daily basis in his lanai and the smoke engulfs our house preventing us from using our yard and lanai, and The Villages won't take action. You put an unapproved rock in your yard and you'll get a $2000 fine, stink up the neighborhood with pot and they do nothing.

Most of the residential neighborhoods are gated and just like any other city in the there is law enforcement that help keep it safe
