  • The Bel Canto operatic singing technique is classic for a reason, it works! And actually, it's really not that different to other techniques/styles, it's just that the names are different. So this warm up routine is for all voices and for all songs, yes even metal! And it's just a brilliant routine.
    In this video we start off as always by finding our breath with two fab breathing exercises. Then we move on to some SOVT (Semi Occluded Vocal Tract) exercises, firstly a tongue focused one and then lip bubbles/your SOVT of choice. Our next two exercises introduce operatic techniques of having a yawny open throat and drinking back sound. We'll do some octave slides before a nice warm down and final breathing exercise. It's a good'un!!
    New videos come every week so let me know in the comments what you'd like to hear about (Technique? Song breakdowns? Singer analysis?) We're a democracy at MusicForMy... so you get to chose!

    I’ve heard of Killing Someone with Kindness but you’re “Killing Me with EXCELLENCE!
    For those who can’t fully appreciate you, I’m a fitness coach and understand the great ability to meet everyone where they are and gradually ease their (current ability, or in this case) voice into greater clarity and power. I’ve been discovering you videos for 3 days and I feel so open and clear afterwards.
    I won’t bore you with ANYMORE compliments.😳🏆🎶

    I've done a lot of different warm ups for rock singing and this one has really given me a rich sound as a baritone. Great stuff.
    I'm bad at the waoow part though 😂 just feel like I'm straining the whole time. I'm not good at navigating my passagio.

    • @musicformy...
      @musicformy...  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! Operatic warm ups suit all genre of singing 😎
      And the strain feeling could be using muscles you haven't previously used? Keep the breath flowing and modify the vowel slightly to find one that's easier for you. It's all about manipulating vowels! Then after practise other vowels and sounds will become easier ❤️

    I do have a question but first I want to thank you for your videos and this warmup is fantastic! - I NEEDED IT - I have such trouble with my lower mixed voice (always have). I have had decades of voice lessons. I am age 75.I do sing in the church choir but want very much to get my voice in shape to sing solos again. Some teachers called their teaching Bell Canto, but except for "bubbles" I never was taught these exercises nor where the resonators in the head and body are nor how to use them. My QUESTION with a hopefully comprehensible explanation of my voice:
    My low passaggio begins at F above middle C. My chest voice can go as low as the octave below Mid C and it is very loud, and man like. I have been told my head voice sound is a warm Spento (spelling?) and strong above the G, above Mid C. In Years past I could sing High C. Today, high G is my high but it is not consistent. When I began lessons, I was able to correct my head voice passaggio that begins at B flat above Mid C. But my low passaggio has been my nemesis. Now, when I get to G above Middle C going into my low passaggio it feels like I have mucus under my vocal folds that I cannot clear. Above that G I have no feeling of mucus under the folds at all in my throat and my voice feels free. (I also use Allegra, & 1200mg Mucinex every other day or so) Also, my speaking voice is lower and very raspy. I am constantly having to clear my throat. This could be because of my age but I do hope there is a technic that might help to sing over the phlegm and to not sound like a man in my low voice (😵🥴).

      Thank you so much for this and I am so pleased that you are enjoying my videos and finding them helpful❤️
      Our voices do change as we age but that needn't be a bad thing and also, needn't be a massive change if we maintain good practise. A few years ago I saw an 80+ year old perform with the Royal Opera in London and they completely held their own alongside younger singers (their tone was lovely!)
      I will start working on a warm up video for smooth transition through the passaggio. It can be really tricky for many singers so hopefully many will find the topic useful. I'll make sure it works for the range you have specified, what you have said makes complete sense and I will try to help as best I can!

      @@musicformy... Thank you so much for your response!!! I enjoyed your story about the 80 year old woman that could hold her own with a lovely sound. I look forward to the warm-up you talked about. I can't regain what I lost but my hope is to improve upon what I have left. I also wanted to let you know that my worst vowel is the "AAH" and my best vowel is the "EEE". The AAH hardly comes forward and the "EEE" has a ping to it and seems to get through some of the phlegm. ☺BTW I love this warm-up!!!!!
