    Those are a great pair of knives, and I absolutely love that wharncliffe blade. Thanks for participating in Two for Tuesday, my friend.

      These are really nice. They are a blend of old and new. Many of the other modern traditionals don't capture the old part that well, these do.

    I love those trappers. The trappers with the Wharncliffe blade are often called Improved Trappers. I don’t have any of the new models with the S35VN steel. But I think they look fantastic. I like your slip, very nice! You have quickly become one of my favorite channels. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks! For my day job I like the Wharncliffe Trappers but otherwise the spey blade is very good. Quite often I can't make up my mind, hence the pairing! There is something very special about the buffalo horn. It's a wonderful material. I have always loved leather. Traditionals are a good excuse to play around with leather. They just belong together!

      The smooth red bone sounds nice! I'm going to search your channel for it. If it's in a video I would love to have a look at it. There is just something different about the buffalo horn that can not be put into words.

    I absolutely LOVE the mini wharncliffe trappers!!! One of my favorite patterns case makes. They also have a single blade wharncliffe mini trapper. I love them too; they're just super slim and they carry about as easy as anything you can find. I also like the mini trappers cause they have half stops where the full size dont. I really like the look of the buffalo horn too!! Very nice 👌

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I fell in love with the buffalo horn. I don't know if they made one or not, but a large stockman in this series would be killer! The single bladed ones are a joy to carry but for my work having the additional blade profiles for different applications is more important than having the knife disappear in the pocket. However weekends are a different story and that's when slim models are nice.

    That first trapper with the wharncliffe is right up my alley. Not knocking the buffalo horn ones, they are beautiful but out of my budget. Great video again.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the Buffalo Horn plus S35vn that make these ones more expensive. They do make the trapper and mini trapper with the warrencliff blade in trusharp with bone for a lower price.

      If you like the saw cut bone slip check out Richter Knives! He is the one that started it. I just attempted a shameless copy for my own use :) He is a true leather smith and I would advise anyone that is interested in this look to check out his channel. He would be glad to make one for anyone that wants one.

    I'm still doing the 30 Day Traditional Slipjoint Challenge as well, I've been swapping between my RR Barlow and Buck 303 Cadet; I'm enjoying it so far. I agree with you, I rarely only carry 1 knife at a time, usually at least some kind of folder as my "main blade" and an SAK or multitool of some sort. That Case in s35vn is very nice and thanks for sharing. I just subbed, btw. ☺ Cheers!

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, have been subbed to your channel for a week or 2 now. I found it through a shoutout on another channel. I always have a multitool on my belt. Usually it's a modified Leatherman P2. This gives me an idea, I should make a video about modifying multitools. This seems to be a trend with me. Everything I carry is either home made or modified!

    Great Blades!! You are correct, their grinds are so bad but nothing has been as bad out of the box as my Buck 112 Sport Pro.. Had to re-profile right out of the box, absolutely nuts. I really wish they would just step up the QC a bit, nothing worse as being excited for a new $140 knife and when you open the box you are just let down... Thanks for sharing these wonderful pieces!!!

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The mini trapper required a re-profile right out of the box. A knife is a cutting tool and it should come ready to cut, otherwise what good is it? It drives me nuts when companies don't provide a usable out of box product! Is it really to much to ask for a knife that cuts? Other then that I love the blades and from the initial feel on the stones the S35VN feels like it was done well.

  • @BaxtersBlades

    Very good idea..
    " knives that complement each other." That is a good tag. Those are some serious blades there. And good for you to send that Case back! I really hate when that happends, but when you spend the money.... You have to. So .... Your short film is posted on my page. It is the first video. It is called "2 for Tuesday on a Monday?" Thank you for the inspiration. It was thrown together at the last minute. And maybe they'll be even better versions in the future.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The short was hilarious! I have been brainstorming a fun knife Friday video using the same theme. I will have to get a couple suckers....I mean volunteers to help make it. Maybe in a month or so I'll have it up! Hopefully a few people pick up on the tag. It's why I carry certain knife combinations.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 2 weeks left but will probably carry this pair for at least a month before giving some final thoughts. Another common pairing for me is a knife of choice plus a multitool. Just think of pairings that work together to provide more options. On the other hand they don't have to work together but just be enjoyable or have a certain look/feel to them.

      I have a doctors knife, but have never tried brain surgery. Any Guinee pigs in here? Just know that my philosophy is instructions are only for when all else fails! What I am not the best at is kydex. I don't have any actual tools for it and form everything by hand. The result is a good functional piece of gear but it is not as pretty as a commercial offering or something from an actual kydexer.
      Thanks, I hope you like the knives!

      @@LastChanceKnives you can use me what the hell can you mess up more with me lol 😂 all kidding aside I’m shocked you didn’t come up with some kind of press!!! • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I did come up with a press. It is used mainly for hybrid ccw holsters. I need to play with stiffer foam because I can't get enough pressure to form kydex around a thin knife.

  • @davids9549
    @davids9549 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think you'll find that first knife is Bonestag, not actual Stag. Nice Wharnie, either way.
    I like Case's Tru-Sharp precisely because it sharpens so easily, but it has to be acknowledged that S35 is an awesome steel as long as you have the equipment and expertise to sharpen it!
    The Buffalo is great, no question - Case can make a good knife when they want to. Too bad they don't appear to have cured their QC issues just yet.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you are right about the covers being bonestag. It does have a very different look from the regular jigged bone. Cases QC does need to be addressed. It would be better for each knife to cost a bit more if that is what it takes to solve the fit and finish issues. I either buy local so that the knife can be inspected first or am ready to send it back if ordered online. Perfection is not required but a reasonable fit and finish is.

    I have the same Warncliffe mini trapper as the one you fixed but my main blade is slightly different. It's my only Case and I wanted something with the Case chunky scales and something unique to them. It's very good, good QC and qualifies on both counts! Nice little knives.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That mini trapper is one nice little knife! The fit and finish from Case can be hit and miss but they do turn out some great stuff. I have had to send more than one back in the past for a replacement.

    I'm not much for Trappers, in fact, I'm trying to join Tobias' ABATClub. 😎 But that Mini Trapper with the Wharncliffe blade, be still my knife-addicted-heart! I think you did a great job with that slip too, thanks for sharing.

      I generally prefer Stockmans (Large, has to be the Large) over Trappers, however this particular combination just does it! If you like the slip check out Richter Knives! He is the one who came up with the idea.

      An S35VN Copperlock would be a nice knife! There also was a Large Stockman in the series, but I missed it! I really wanted that one too. Maybe one will come up for sale some day. They haven't made them for a while now so you will have to keep a lookout on places like eBay to find one.

      @patrickbledsoe2176 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, I hope they make another run some day I have been checking they're website more now day, I've seen some nice knife think ill pick up another medium stockman. In your opinion what's the better of the 2 steels they offer the true sharp or the other I can't remeber the name at the moment

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The two steels are CS (carbon steel) and SS (Trusharp Stainless Steel). Of the two I like the carbon steel better. It holds an edge longer than Trusharp plus it will patina with use. It will also rust if not cared for. If you prefer ease of maintenance and no patina then choose Trusharp. @@patrickbledsoe2176

    • @LastChanceKnives

    Its absurd to pay over 100 dollars and get a dull knife.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have yet to see any knife that comes with an edge that is good enough! I have knives from $10 up to $600 and end up reprofiling the edge on every single one. Even if done well, the edge angle is always to obtuse. Maybe I am just more fussy than most. When my friends think a knife is sharp and ready to go, I usually think the edge is junk.
