    Mistakes because I don't always know what I'm talking about lol:
    6:13 - The 0.6x multiplier is actually slowing down your speed, rather than reducing the knockback you deal. You still do have your knockback reduced after the first hit in a sprint, but due to a different section of the code. You can see a full explanation in the comment from @OpaqueEclipse (thanks for pointing that out!)
    7:32 - You don't actually move backwards when you S-tap in most cases, though I have seen this successfully used before. I phrased this section poorly. Rather, you press S *as if* you were moving backwards, but it just cancels out your forward movement (from pressing W) and allows you to stop on a dime for a faster sprint reset than W-tapping. Thanks to @ojfrizz for mentioning this!

    I'm honestly amazed at your progression through out this channel, I used to be an invaded lands player back in around 2018 and I remember seeing you around quite often, either in game or just hanging out on the forums, your determination is crazy to me, the fact that you always continued doing youtube and never gave up. I remember hearing people clown you for your youtube and making fun of it (as they do) because it was a very toxic community, and seeing your success and growth really feels good. You deserve it man. I've always been watching your videos even back from 2018, and you have really proven that you can achieve anything you put your mind to it. Thanks for showing me that.

      You really can do anything if you're willing to put the time and effort in, and that means anything. That's really all it is, the determination is far more important than natural skill or anything like that. I'm happy I've been able to show you, and I'm infinitely grateful for what I have today.

    Probably the most helpful and in depth PVP guide I've seen yet. A surprising amount of the one's I've watched just go like "ok so first get a good mouse, then tap w and click left and right click really quickly" and this one actually explained a lot of this stuff in detail. I never even heard of bow boosting too.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good, I'm happy I could help! I tried to include as much as I could that was really teachable (some things, like blocking, aren't nearly as easy to teach and you'll learn them pretty quickly through trial and error). And yeah, bow boosting is super super fun but I've never really seen anyone use it outside of kit servers!

  • @jaidennn
    @jaidennn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +65

    6:13 That is actually incorrect. The bit of code you have highlighted is the code that multiplies the attacker's velocity by 0.6 if the attacker is sprinting (This is why when you click high cps your knockback gets reduced). What really happens in the code is when the variable i is more than 0 [if (i > 0)], it will add extra knockback [targetEntity.addVelocity]. i is how much the extra knockback is multiplied by and gets increased by 1 if the attacker is sprinting. Also, for every knockback enchantment level, i is also increased by 1.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Ah, I see, I appreciate you letting me know! I do actually mention the high cps-knockback relation later in the video, it seems I just slightly mixed their code mechanics together: Java is not the easiest language haha. Regardless though, the in-game effect of reduced knockback after the first hit should remain true.

    20:21 When something explodes in Minecraft, the damage is actually taken from the feet. This is why if you see people mine for netherite, they put beds down, and even if they are on the same level as the beds, they put 1 block between them and the bed, and the bed hardly does any damage. This is the same with tnt, crystals, anything that blows up in Minecraft. You are correct on how being lower is better for more damage but I figured I’d go more into depth with the reason why it does more damage.

    Oh my god what a video. It makes me so happy to finally see this level of effort and quality put into a video, which is a bit rare these days and unheard of in the Minecraft scene at least in this aspect. As a 6 year Minecraft player and avid PvPer on Hypixel and servers alike since 2016, it took me a while to pick up on a lot of the concepts and mechanics mentioned in the video due to just the lack of there being a clear and in-depth analysis, so I respect and take joy that newer players have the opportunity to learn what took me and many others years in just a few months maybe. I’ve personally seen myself improve over the past 3 years and have picked up on almost every technique and mechanic mentioned in the video from the basics up to the more advanced and specific ones. Actually I can think of one I learned a few years ago from a PvP tips video that wasn’t mentioned, from what I recall, in this video (Hitting players’ legs or lower half of their body actually gives better hit reg (not sure why but would love to hear an explanation of that)). Despite my experience and knowledge of the aforementioned, I actually didn’t understand something that this video explained which was the logic and mechanics behind sprint resetting and knockback, and also didn’t know that the different sprint resetting methods had different uses! So thanks for explaining and teaching me that! Seriously man for the level of production, research and time that went into this video you deserve way more than what you have, and if you keep this up I can easily see you chilling at 500k - 1M subs in less than a year with how TH-cam is. Great stuff man, earned my Sub and really made me wanna PvP again. Great Job :D

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much man, I really do appreciate all the praise!! Oh, and on the "hitting legs gives better reach" thing, I haven't actually heard that before, but looking it up, it may just be placebo from what I've seen. If it is true, I think it probably has something to do with how Minecraft measures reach; if reach is measured from your head to the center of your opponents hitbox, then hitting their head/upper half would probably mean more reach, at the cost of some hits not registering because the server thinks they're too far away (when they're on the same level as you, this wouldn't make a difference, but when you're hitting them up into the air, then the top half would be higher up and the lower half would be closer to you.

    You said that shift tapping isn't worth it in

    • @yt-dman
      @yt-dman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      shift tapping is definitely important in 100%, there's been many times where i put in a little shift tap and get combos seemingly out of nowhere. it confuses alot of players mentally as you said, and that in gamemodes where swords aren't available, it can mean a big difference. blockhitting is definitely better than shifttapping to some extent, like that for blockhitting you move faster but for shifting you move considerably slower.
      shift-tapping is also easier to hold a combo with since you move slower, where if you blockhit a combo then you will move too close to the opponent.
      shift tapping is underrated and should stay underrated.

    I very much enjoyed and paise your detailed PVP guide in the video about the many different skills and how they're explained, but it would be very thoughtful to add upon it discussing how to effectively defend yourself against absolute sweats (such as myself but mainly in UHC Duels) or explaining many different types of keyboard keybinds, and if optional, the type of keyboards to use to that can are easy to master and get a hang of for the long term since I would love to switch to use keybinds to efficiently sort my Hotbar rather than still use a scroll wheel when using my Hotbar and only my *[4]* for healing and *[Z]* key to quickly switch to (in my case) lava in UHC PVP and pretty much it. Thank you for reading this and as always keep up on your grind my man and I hope one day you'll reach 100k subscribers and enter the big boys club of TH-camrs.
    *(P.S. side not, it would also be nice to discuss the rampant toxicity and harassment within the Minecraft PvP community because it used to be addressed years ago by other small and medium-sized TH-camrs at the time but it seems to come back more potent than ever and even spreading on many PVP servers (Including Hypixel) and forums all across the community and causing more harm to other communities or the server's own reputation with more serious allegations and such as Death Threats, DDoS threats, Doxing, Extortion, Discord Infiltration Raids, Child Predators, and even Swatting (Yes, police raid calls over a block game). It would be an honor for you to address it and give utterance out to bring as well taking to many smaller PVP and Minecraft creators who've been impacted by this and to bring the anonymous perpetrators involved to justice without giving them the credit.)*

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed! Defending against sweats and keyboard layouts are certainly important, but they're things that I'm not sure I can really teach; each person inevitably comes up with their own way of doing it, there's not really any set method, which is why you see people like xNestorio using arrow keys for movement and other wacky layouts. I'll keep up the content as best as I can, appreciate it man.
      As for the toxicity idea, you read my mind, I was actually considering that as a video very recently. I doubt I'd use it to expose anyone in particular, but it's certainly an issue that needs to be discussed; I'm just not yet sure how.

      @@mcbyt I'm supprised and well pleased that you had a video plan like that in mind about the dark nature and toxicity of some branches of the PVP community but there are a lot of sources you can go to such as older posts on pvp subreddits and older videos talking about the toxicity that was prevelant at the time. Even TapL made a video four-five years ago about the toxicity in skywars alone before bedwars was even a proto-type game (which is also extremely toxic and extremely sweaty one of the reasons I quited that gamemode).

  • @acfry
    @acfry 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A couple things to correct:
    a rodtrick is actually just that thing you mentioned where you deal double damage with a projectile, not just using it as a projectile.
    the thing you said about ping and it causing combos is somewhat correct, but if that was true people with 0 ping on both ends would just trade hits indefinitely. what mostly causes it is your speed/momentum. the higher it is, the farther your reach. this is why having speed in a fight is such an advantage, and why you want to use projectiles to knock them back.
    you can't get punch 3, punch 2 is the max. 14:22
    thats about it for correcting.
    you also forgot to mention more niche things, like hit-selecting, bow boosting to cancel peoples projectiles (like in mmc bridge), and jump resetting (take less kb)
    great video tho, and i will def sub + like
    also forgetting to mention the entirety of axe pvp, lava buckets, and f/s is kinda weird since they're very important for different types of pvp. Also more things like hotkeying and inventory management are very very important for pvp.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually didn't know that about rodtricks, ty for letting me know!
      And yeah, I absolutely oversimplified ping and combos but the explanation is a really long one, thought that the explanation I gave would be enough for the tips that followed at least
      Some servers have custom levels of punch IIRC, swear I've played them
      Super niche things I didn't mention because I don't know enough about them and it's not entirely known how they work
      Fire/lava I was going to mention in the first draft of the video but I cut it out, don't remember why. Axe PvP I probably should've mentioned, yeah. And inventory/hotkey stuff was excluded because I can't really give tips on that, everyone has their own way of using controls/organization

    even though you mentioned in the pinned comment that you cannot move backwards in the S tap showed in the video, it isn't entirely correct as an older form of S tapping where you let go of W, press S and then back to W works just as well if not better than the more common version if you can do it efficiently enough to not be slower than standard sprint resetting because it allows you to slightly distance yourself from the opponent, but like I said, if you time it properly you won't go so far away that you can't hit them again. I need to make it clear that this is a terrible way to START a combo as if you fail you will take a lot more kb and get comboed urself. So only do this to keep a combo that you started with any sprint resetting method shown in this video!

    Double damage isn’t only on Hypixel. Double damage comes from code in minecraft where if you get hit multiples times in a tick, you take the damage the one which deals the most does. So when you rod an opponent and hit them in the same tick, the rod will deal sword damage.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I shouldn't say it's specific to Hypixel, but many other servers have patches for it in my experience

    • @fireballman31
      @fireballman31 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow someone else that actually knows this, this shouldn’t be patched on any servers because it is vanilla but the only correction is it is the highest damage per invincibility frame not per tick which is 0.5 seconds not 0.05 seconds

    The is a really nice pvp explanation but there is one error I would like to point out. S-tapping doesnt move you backward, because you hold W and tap S. This results in you stopping completely movement wise, and without the keystrokes mod S-tapping and W-tapping look basically identical.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I poorly explained that. Think I addressed it in another comment, you just cancel the movement instead of moving backwards (though that is actually a strategy that is used sometimes)

    god bridger and decent pvper here. CPS matters a little, but a cracked out 30cps kb reducer is still going to lose against someone with low ground. Strategy is a lot more important than cps, and most of the time I don’t drag click, butterfly, or jitter. I just play around low ground, strafe, w tap, go for combos or just trade hits when they’re low. Hypixel isn’t competitive enough for things like cps, extensions, and anything above ninja bridging to matter. Plus, with all the invisible blocks, hackers, and lag, you can play perfectly and still lose.
    Actually on that note, I’ve beat hackers before in bedwars. I kept eating gaps and sat in a corner and because I was backed into a wall, when he got up close to kill me I was able to trade hits and kill him, all with 8-10 cps btw.

    While this is a good guide the movement section didn’t touch on correct movement against good opponents (this applies especially in speed 2 but also in no speed)
    I’ll explain correct movement:if you’re strafing to your right towards your opponent and your opponent is strafing to their left away from you, even if both of you are aiming perfectly, you’ll get a combo. Im on a phone so i’ll give a brief explanation of how to move well: you want to strafe away from your opponent until right before you collide with them when you switch to strafing into them. Straightline during long trades (the one’s where you’e basically reducing) unless it is a hit select long trade (or in certain specific situational long trades)
