It never once crossed my mind even once why Emma does all the driving. Maybe because I do all the driving in my marriage too. We've been married almost 30 years and learned fairly early on in our marriage that I love driving way more than he does and he's way better at navigating than I am. Plus I am a horrible passenger and need to close my eyes in order to keep from pissing off whoever is driving with my anxiety-ridden "backseat driving" tips (it's hard to navigate and sight-see with closed eyes, LOL!).

I can confirm, its a bird with a white tail 🤣.. Small vans are great for parking etc, but you do lose the separate toilet/shower.. not sure Id survive without my separate toilet/shower/bed/kitchen and office area.. In regards to Emma only driving.. i think its cause shes the better driver 😄

Brilliant vlog. You've become tremendous film-makers. Much as I'm an admirer of the v-dub for its compactness and the shrewdness of your conversion (Emma!), I've realised that it would be too small for me to live in for an extended trip. Respect to you both for managing it (being young helps, I think!). I tow a large pop-up camper for holidays but if I was to turn to vanlife I think I would have to bite the bullet and go for a MWB / LWB Boxer or Sprinter and accept that parking & access may be compromised. Great sandwiches Alex, you da man!

Ooh, Beans, this vlog was so cozy and personal. Thank you for creating this. I have been soaking up so many van life videos to where my mindset is currently: YES I'd like to live in a van! I even convinced my boyfriend, and we're saving up for the van and build itself. I am so excited. I like what you mentioned about having your own tasks as a couple living in a small space. The apartment we live in right now isn't that big with one separate bedroom, but it would be a huge difference to live in a van. As of right now, I'd like to purchase a van in which I can stand up without having to extend the roof ceiling. I also would think to invest in a shower inside the van. Only the future will know what we got in store. Lovely video! I wish you both a great day. PS. I can imagine you get the question about the driver often. It is quite crazy that people tend to think of a male when they're thinking about who's driving. I too wonder why such an image exists in people's minds; however, I too sometimes notice myself thinking to myself "please don't be a woman" when someone's driving poorly. I have yet to adjust my own thinking even though I consider myself a feminist. I also remember thinking last summer, as I sat in the park looking at many boats float by, why the majority of people were men who were in control of the stirring of the boat. My and my husband rented a fully converted van for our holidays! It is so cool to travel like this around the countries and park and sleep in nature. 🤍🌍✨ But by husband refused to use the toilet in van 😂😂 he just couldn't do it even therr was a totally normal compost toilet..🤦🏼♀️😅 yeah, so pooping is the hardest part 😂

Hiiii! Love your videos! (And the couple from MO you’ve teamed up with!) About 15 years ago I trucked around in a GMC VAN, aka ‘Vannie White’ as my boys called her, after they had left home. I loved it! The van was stolen once I moved to Little Rock to work, broke my heart, and now that EVERYBODY is reminded me what I’m missing!!!! I’m Van shopping again! Window shopping for now! -/-side note, I loved all the features in Frank, the Ford, and HATED IT FOR YOU GUYS when he met his untimely death. I would love to live in a small van! I know I would because I have. However, I now live in a 40ft class A RV. Why such a drastic size change? I acquired a husband and three cats, none of which would happily live in my small van! Lol Soo… to continue my nomadic life style I just had to adapt for the sake of everyone’s happiness! I've had the same issue as I love driving our Fiat Ducato 6.4m camper van and if I am parking up somewhere, occasionally on campsites and if someone (a man!) is watching they'll say something like "das machst du gut" (you are doing that well) like it's supposed to be a compliment because I am parking the bloody van properly. My husband once said to the guy "would you have commented that if it was me parking?" haha thanks babe!

😂 I had my driver's license 6 years before my boyfriend did so I drove us everywhere. Some people just don't like driving, or can't drive, or have insane motion sickness. It's crazy how people will immediately jump on something as small as who is driving 😂

Great videos, retired English truck driver 80yrs old now, so slowing down a bit, so seeing your travels is brilliant, but as I was brought up on bread and jam, not too bothered about food, some people live to eat and some people eat to live, so I am in the latter category. Being a Yorkshire Man, Yorkshire Pudding in a wrap ugh!! on a plate knife and fork and onion gravy Yorkshire Pudding OUT.
I think I'm too lazy to live in a van - it's much easier to kick the laundry under the bed when it's a king size. Emma, I'm the only driver in my family and I've had the "oooohh, why doesn't your husband drive?" comment a lot, usually from elderly women that I don't know. Infuriating. Equally Mr Bennet gets "why isn't your wife at home with the kids? What do you mean - you're the one at home??" a fair bit. Also infuriating.
I built out a 2007 GMC Savana 3500 Extended (US). I learned, by building it out, that all vans are small vans. My wife and I don't live in the van full-time, but we are still crowded in it. I will be working on trying to gain more floor space in the coming months. I thought we had loads of space under the bed, but that quickly filled up with folding ebikes and water (we do not run out of water nearly as quickly as you do, so that's the good news). I will often step outside the van while she is dressing and vice versa. I would love to travel more with her, but I do feel I need to rescue some space.
As another woman who always drives, I get it. I probably have another reason…. I am critical of my husband’s late braking and too close following habits. I drive my car and am in charge. If we are in his truck (rarely) he’s in charge.😊. I loved this vlog and did answer some of my questions.❤

I can confirm, its a bird with a white tail 🤣.. Small vans are great for parking etc, but you do lose the separate toilet/shower.. not sure Id survive without my separate toilet/shower/bed/kitchen and office area..
In regards to Emma only driving.. i think its cause shes the better driver 😄

Brilliant vlog. You've become tremendous film-makers. Much as I'm an admirer of the v-dub for its compactness and the shrewdness of your conversion (Emma!), I've realised that it would be too small for me to live in for an extended trip. Respect to you both for managing it (being young helps, I think!). I tow a large pop-up camper for holidays but if I was to turn to vanlife I think I would have to bite the bullet and go for a MWB / LWB Boxer or Sprinter and accept that parking & access may be compromised. Great sandwiches Alex, you da man!
Alex's commentary on the whole camping commode process had me rolling!! You both have such an uplifting happy energy, super sense of humor! I have never found anyone I would live in a van with, so it's really nice to see how you two make it such a special experience.
Ooh, Beans, this vlog was so cozy and personal. Thank you for creating this. I have been soaking up so many van life videos to where my mindset is currently: YES I'd like to live in a van! I even convinced my boyfriend, and we're saving up for the van and build itself. I am so excited. I like what you mentioned about having your own tasks as a couple living in a small space. The apartment we live in right now isn't that big with one separate bedroom, but it would be a huge difference to live in a van. As of right now, I'd like to purchase a van in which I can stand up without having to extend the roof ceiling. I also would think to invest in a shower inside the van. PS. I can imagine you get the question about the driver often. It is quite crazy that people tend to think of a male when they're thinking about who's driving. I too wonder why such an image exists in people's minds; however, I too sometimes notice myself thinking to myself "please don't be a woman" when someone's driving poorly. I have yet to adjust my own thinking even though I consider myself a feminist. I also remember thinking last summer, as I sat in the park looking at many boats float by, why the majority of people were men who were in control of the stirring of the boat. Thank you for mentioning this in your video!

Alex - I think you do a wonderful job of editing! On a different topic- the video presents a lot of DIY regarding bowel habits - but do the 2 of you have any procedures for dealing with impending digestive gas release (IDGR) in such a small living space? e.g. rapid evacuation, a warning signal?

My and my husband rented a fully converted van for our holidays! It is so cool to travel like this around the countries and park and sleep in nature. 🤍🌍✨ But by husband refused to use the toilet in van 😂😂 he just couldn't do it even therr was a totally normal compost toilet..🤦🏼♀️😅 yeah, so pooping is the hardest part 😂

Coming back to the question of would you do it, I think if I’d met my husband 40 years ago then I would have loved to travel in a van (with shower and proper loo!) He did it before we met and his Land Rover he did up, had shipped to South Africa blew up like your van did. He lost all his documents, cash the lot! Everyone stop us and ask us why she was driving. In Asia the man are supposed drive and women riding. My wife grow up riding motorcycle and I didn't. That's why she drove.
Hiiii! Love your videos! (And the couple from MO you’ve teamed up with!) About 15 years ago I trucked around in a GMC VAN, aka ‘Vannie White’ as my boys called her, after they had left home. I loved it! The van was stolen once I moved to Little Rock to work, broke my heart, and now that EVERYBODY is reminded me what I’m missing!!!! I’m Van shopping again! Window shopping for now!

I would love to live in a small van! I know I would because I have. However, I now live in a 40ft class A RV. Why such a drastic size change? I acquired a husband and three cats, none of which would happily live in my small van! Lol Soo… to continue my nomadic life style I just had to adapt for the sake of everyone’s happiness! I'm so glad that you clarified that a bag goes in the 'toilet"because as you explained I just kept thinking, "oh that must be a mess to clean and disgusting!' LOL!!! As you can tell I've never lived the vanlife, however I would give it a try if the opportunity came up. My husband and I like each other so I don't think we would kill one another...

I've had the same issue as I love driving our Fiat Ducato 6.4m camper van and if I am parking up somewhere, occasionally on campsites and if someone (a man!) is watching they'll say something like "das machst du gut" (you are doing that well) like it's supposed to be a compliment because I am parking the bloody van properly. My husband once said to the guy "would you have commented that if it was me parking?" haha thanks babe!

😂 I had my driver's license 6 years before my boyfriend did so I drove us everywhere. Some people just don't like driving, or can't drive, or have insane motion sickness. It's crazy how people will immediately jump on something as small as who is driving 😂

I couldn't live in a van that small, lack of storage space & no toilet/shower would do my head in.
My wife & I have a great arrangement for driving. She doesn't drink & I do, so I drive 'there' and she drives back - that's why I married her! 😂😂(& cos she's lush & I luv's her obvs.)
Great videos, retired English truck driver 80yrs old now, so slowing down a bit, so seeing your travels is brilliant, but as I was brought up on bread and jam, not too bothered about food, some people live to eat and some people eat to live, so I am in the latter category. Being a Yorkshire Man, Yorkshire Pudding in a wrap ugh!! on a plate knife and fork and onion gravy Yorkshire Pudding OUT.
I think I'm too lazy to live in a van - it's much easier to kick the laundry under the bed when it's a king size. Emma, I'm the only driver in my family and I've had the "oooohh, why doesn't your husband drive?" comment a lot, usually from elderly women that I don't know. Infuriating. Equally Mr Bennet gets "why isn't your wife at home with the kids? What do you mean - you're the one at home??" a fair bit. Also infuriating.
I built out a 2007 GMC Savana 3500 Extended (US). I learned, by building it out, that all vans are small vans. My wife and I don't live in the van full-time, but we are still crowded in it. I will be working on trying to gain more floor space in the coming months. I thought we had loads of space under the bed, but that quickly filled up with folding ebikes and water (we do not run out of water nearly as quickly as you do, so that's the good news). I will often step outside the van while she is dressing and vice versa. I would love to travel more with her, but I do feel I need to rescue some space.
As another woman who always drives, I get it. I probably have another reason…. I am critical of my husband’s late braking and too close following habits. I drive my car and am in charge. If we are in his truck (rarely) he’s in charge.😊. I loved this vlog and did answer some of my questions.❤
