When I was in high school in the late 80s, I acquired Shogun, Fortress America, and Axis&Allies, my brother and my friends had great times with those games, but Shogun (I had the original) stood out as a true convas for creative, incisive play. The initiative, ninja and allocation mechanics were absolute gold, resulting in a looming sense of dread as everyone essayed to murder each other behind their player screens. Reading the other players' intent was a big part. I haven't played since high school, college and grad school, but I have used the allocation and initiative concepts In a game I have developed and I hope will soon see publishing. Thanks for doing this video. FYI, there is an immaculately rendered copy of Shogun available on Table Top Simulator's workshop.
Awesome! I have fond memories of "Shogun," the copy we played was old enough to be called that. And I know I always think of revolutionary-Iran whenever I think of family-game! 😄

Hoping to get it to the table with the current group I play with. I will send a link to this playthrough so they can get a feel for it.
I LOVED this episode! I own it but haven’t played Samurai Swords since the later 1990’s. It was a “ family game night” favorite of mine but not the family- if you get my drift. I also own the Avalon Hill game Samurai published in 1980, but only did a little solo play and never a full game of that. Still have it though. I think either might be converted into a “campaign” battle generator where the battles could be fought out on the table top using miniatures rules. Again great video and more like this please.
My absolute favorite board game as a young adult!! We played every week on Wednesday nights in college one year, as there were not many Thursday morning classes on campus. The game became legendary on campus with so many people becoming aware of it, they would ask us who won on Thursday. In fact a group of girls tp’ed our cars one night as we were gathered to play and no one noticed until the game wrapped up late. Played this game back in the day. I predicted Chal would win prior based on the players style. I knew Zach and Wyatt would be most aggressive. Josh is solid but always has that one roll or decision that trips him up. Chal is always defensive minded but tactically offensive hence why I thought he would prevail. Did players forget that the fortress (base section of the castle) has spearmen as a garrison? That you get both ronin and spearmen when defending a fully built castle.
I never played this game but have seen it online before (but not played) it looks so fun! I wonder what it would look like if you used painted 2 or 3mm army units instead of the default units on the board to represent the armies...
I have the original game. I love it, but it is hard to find 4 players to play. With only three players, two will just gang up on one. If I remember correctly there is also an alternate start where players take turns picking provinces which allows players to consolidate early and it shortens the game.

Their series was top notch.
That was great. Having a commentator explaining the flow of the game was a great choice. Would love to see you play a game of Twilight Imperium using this format. Thanks.
This was a lot of fun!
