I love these longer, multi-part campaigns. Watching things slowly develop really brings us along for the ride.

Guys - a tremendous campaign with a thoughtful framing. I love V&B as the rules set for this campaign as it allows you the ability to game the largest battles. At the same time the map board and the drama of the Allied discussions was the best. Ed's request for a cigarette made me lol on an airplane! Well done crew. Congrats Greg. What you guys do matters!

As a solo wargamer, campaigns like this with multiple generals is something sadly missing from my games. This campaign was truly enjoyable, with the different commanders arguing over the plans. Also, the loss of support from Saxony due to the politics of Spring added a great deal to this game. This was my favorite of season 4. I would love to see a continuation of this into 1814; my personal favorite campaign of the Napoleonic Wars.

Spring 1813 had the most going on. Don't shy away from loonger episdes like that one, it's worth it to get the greater detail.
For that matter, these long campaigns like this one and the Pyrrhus campaign are the best. Do more of them!

This was extremely fun to take part in! I felt extremely bad at the time about all of Tony’s Austrians getting blown away; I was unaware just how powerful defense was. That said, I’ll take wins when I can get them!

    • @harrisonsearles1470
      @harrisonsearles1470 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

At least Tony demonstrated that the Austrians had martial virtue and that they simply weren't going to let the Corsican ogre take Prague without a fight. Both he and Dieter had very unenviable positions in this wargame. It seems that all they could do was take the best fight they could and hope for a French failure to concentrate. Sometimes the best move isn't necessarily always going to win.
I do wonder whether the Coalition forces could have had a better result if they had all advanced rapidly on a central location after they got initial clues about Napoléon's advance across the Erzgebirge. However, that's just being an armchair general.

    • @vis532
      @vis532 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I feel like that was a rules issue mixed with board size one (the latter only fixable by somehow using smaller models or corps sized units), but I don't know just *how* much it was without seeing the nitty gritty behind what the rules say on defense math wise because it seems the French genuinely had some decent positions.

My vote goes to the 1813 series. Loved the way you mixed hex-and-counter with figures to create a synergy of both strategic and tactical perspectives on the conflict. Keep up the good work! 44:37

Absolutely Riveting! I just finished watching the entire 1813 campaign series, and I'm blown away! The production quality is top-notch, the narration is engaging, and the battles are incredibly well-recreated. This was great. As Carl noted, the friction amongst the players as commanders actually made this more realistic. I was especially impressed by the hauling out of the 6 x 8 table, and I totally get the problem of maneuver that Miles mentioned. Not enough sheets of plywood!

Great experience! When the tabletop game is just a part of the overall story, it makes for a memorable event!! It’s honestly one of your groups main strengths. You make a historical game come alive. I love historicals but find refights to be a little bland, especially if the rules demand special abilities for those who were the original victors. These kind of history based games with variations and decisions, are the highest form of the art. Well done! Thank you for sharing! Left my comment before the end, so I say chosin reservoir was my favorite. Spring campaign was awesome, but I could feel for the marines and army trying desperately to get away! It was so emotional!

I enjoyed the Hastings episode (living in the UK), and the club v club marathon battle.

Wow, what a finale to end the season! The 1813 Campaign trilogy is easily my favorite game/video from season 4. I’m a huge fan of any and all fog of war implementation-the flags were an elegant device. Well done players and GM, and hats off to your editor!

I like the flags and the FOW, however I do think that, if I remember correctly, that there should be some kind of idea about the size of the flags as you had in the spring episode. There were spies all over the place after all. I also think that even in a tactical battle there should be some kind of operational movement. Waterloo for instance is after all a tactical battle but the Prussians add an operational element to it. I really liked the Leipzig campaign and the mix of tactical and operational feel to it. But I also have to give a shout out to the Vicksberg campaign that was very entertaining.

I think that the Hastings episode was the greatest of this season. I was, in my humble opinion, always inevitable for Ravenfeast to go grand at one point or the other, and this has now spawned my favorite Dark Ages ruleset to date. Thank you for all you do for wargaming!

I think the best video of the season was Peleliu. While I may be biased, having played the scenario at Historicon, I think the beautiful board, grand scale of it all, and scenario design, all rolled into one episode, made for a cinematic, but epic scale video.

  • @Mandowinger

Little Wars TV gang, this is perhaps the most in-depth war gaming experience I have seen. When I began watching the channel around October 2022, I began to find the enthusiasm I had for historical war gaming I had when I was much younger. I have never played a Napoleonic-type game but this series has allowed me to see the possibilities. With the inclusion of the historical experts, along with adding the intrigue of diplomacy and allowing the Patreon community, which I joined, to offer strategic decisions, I felt like I was part of the gaming experience. While I know things will be different in the near future as far at the ability to deliver content; for me you have a dedicated follower. Cheers and good luck to all.

    Regarding my favorite episode.
Oh gosh, too many to choose from! Riachuelo, and Alamo were great. But by far my favorite from Season 4 was Vicksburg Saga. Love the what if and the amount of detail that was covered about the campaign and the views from both sides.

As much as I like the age of the musket and that era of fighting. My favorite has got to be the Chosin Reservoir. The task of surviving and escaping brings a lot of hard decisions a commander has to make in order to have a chance of fighting another day.

I think that this actually (and I never thought I'd say this) is better than your Marengo campaign video from Season 1. It's always hard to top the first great campaign video, but this does it. While the Pyrrhic War campaign was awesome and informative, this was better put together and more fascinating in turning history completely on its head. Thanks for the quality content as always.

As someone who is new to wargaming (and your channel) and a longtime fan of the Napoleonic wars, it was an amazing experience to see your epic 1813 campaing, so Spring 1813 has to be my favourite episode. In this final part of the campaing it was cool to see the fun engangements on and off the battlefield as the allies tried to unite their forces in the limited time and as Napoleon once again surprised them with his aggresive attack! Keep up the great work and thanks for the amazing videos!

    @mattiaskjelltoft4758 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Fantastic wrap up of this campaign, bravo! Very exciting to see the resolution after the unconventional decision to cross the alps in force.
I believe the operational scale is where your wargaming videos shine the most, since the more zoomed out perspective compared to the battlefield scale allows for more space to maneuver and more interesting decisions. It is also often at this scale where interesting historical strategic dilemmas exist which you are very good at presenting and then test counterfactually.
The Vicksburg episode from this season was a good example of a very good operational scale gaming video, but my favorite is of course your napoleonics 1813 campaign, which was also operational but grander in scale. All the feigns on the map and the debating between the coalition generals was very entertaining.

It is a hard choice because so many of these campaigns and/or battles were so great. If I had to choose, although it was extremely campy at times, it would have to be the club vs. club take on the Persian invasion of Greece in 480. That may be just because I am a bit of a nut on the Greeks and Romans. I also loved the campaign of Pyrrhus against Rome and in Sicily. These are just fantastic. I can think of dozens of multiplayer ancient wargame campaigns I would like to see you guys tackle.

What a great campaign! While I have a soft spot for the Chosin Reservoir game, I can't deny these last three episodes have been incredible! Truly a titanic effort that must be applauded. This is a great series! I also love these long campaigns, they really change choices on the battlefield and set up asymmetrical battles which is much more historical. My vote for best episode would be the three episodes of this series, if I have to vote for one episode I'm split between the first in the series and this one, but I will choose the spring campaign. Great job guys keep it up!

First of all, what a season!?! Thank you Greg for all you do on editing and congrats to you and your wife on a new baby boy! It’s a huge blessing and you both deserve the best. Miles and the French Team, you did me proud! I’m not even sure I could have pulled such an amazing victory off so kudos to a great ride to victory. Even though my dear friends Zack and Alex do not believe it will buy the 1st Empire much time, the what if scenario questions are flying off the charts. Greg and the Allied Team, equal thanks for keeping it intense. My favorite episode next to the 1813 Campaign is the Alamo for both the realism and the history. I thought it was really well done and it made my kids interested in doing some research which is partially what we are all about. Happy New Year and thank you for a wonderful 2023! I look forward to what 2024 has to offer and hope to see you at Historicon.

With the greatest respect, the best way to attack and make use of superior numbers in V&B, is to close to musketry range and then the enemy either has to attack, losing his stationary advantage or sit there and enter into a shooting match between stationary units when one's own side can pull units out and replace them with fresh. Close artillery support, particularly horse artillery, can help by inflicting disorder through morale throws.

It's really nice to see how a hex base wargame enhances the experience on tabletop by adding just two more layers to the mix. Logistics and its effect on morale were always huge in how an army performs in the field, this is alas not often seen in the games I normally play. Very well done guys, many moving parts came together and left me wanting for more.

Just watched the whole thing, imagine Miles having the support of the Poles and being able to defend Leipzig better and maybe even Berlin. I think this was a clear French victory in regards to tactical battles and a draw in regards to the strategic situation of 1813. Prague could be used as a staging area for future French campaigns or as a bargaining chip to the half-hearted Austrians. The Emperor could send Murat to Dresden and Eugene with Saint Cyr to Leipzig to defend it. Overall a great video series, congratsulations to all of you et Vive la France 🇫🇷

I was soo hoping for a staunch defence of Prague would have blunted the massive French army to a point where they were forced to fall back. Wishful thinking I know but all I can dream. As for the best video I watched, it would have to be Thermopylae. Battles of the ancient/classical period are always fascinating to me, coupled with club vs club made for an exciting watch.

I have to for sure say that the spring campaign was one of my favorite videos. It was fun watching it all develop, and seeing how this timeline is very diverse from the historical campaign. I must say, it was full of tention, and i absolutely love theese videos. Will love to see more.

This long campaign was very cool to see! It's a really nice format to split up longer campaigns into multiple sessions, but let the outcomes of each session influence the next, can't wait to see more of it

I Really like this video, the outcome is interesting and hoodie Miles is now Iconic, but my favorite episode this season is the Alamo as that episode was how I learned wargaming existed. Thank you for the great videos and hopefully you continue with the masterpiece parade next season!

I really enjoyed this 1813 campaign. Not only is Napoleonic era really well represented by a tabletop game using hex maps, but the multi-player and campaign scale nature of it added so much over a single battle. Really fantastic content!

A great end to the season! These campaign matches are great though I'll say my favorite is the Vicksburg Campaign! It had layers of everything, battles, operational movements and random events.
This campaign played out like Napoleon's first Italian campaign in 1796, echoing it with decisive moves that spilt his opponents.
Unfortunately Emperor Napoleon didn't have the same political freedoms that General Napoleon enjoyed! Though the allies are still committed, I feel that 1814 will be a much bloodier struggle than it was historically.
The French played extremely well in capturing Napoleon's style of operational warfare, using speed and singular command to unhinge a spread out opponent united under a war council. I do think the allies played well in trying for a late game victory, it's just that they needed the threat 2 turns earlier.
Love your club's work, as a French player fighting the Peninsular war this system would be great to refight the 1810 Invasion of Portugal!
See what happens if Soult maybe lends a hand to Massena this time (he won't).

This has been an amazing season. So much fun to follow and watch. It's so hard to pick a favorite from this season, but put to it, I have to say, the High Plains Drifter game. I really enjoy Ruthless and this video demonstrates that Hollywood has provided a nearly inexhaustible vein of scenario concepts to mine for the game. Thanks for being awesome.

The Spring 1813 campaign by far is my favorite. As much as I love the clash of dice and the confusing smoke of cotton balls, the drama of arguing for the reckless attack versus the sane pleas for retreat was really fun to watch!

This campaign was amazing. The amount of effort put into the layout and deliberation on strategy was tremendous. I tend to prefer smaller unit scales and the detail that comes with it - but can recognize the magnitude of this campaign needing to use the scale it did.

I always love table top engagements when they are woven into a campaign situation. This was terrific. This Fall episode was my favorite of the season, but really due to the context of the episodes that preceded it. Good stuff.

This was interesting to watch and to hear the historians' perspectives about what the post-campaign would look like.
As for my favorite series, that is tough. I loved the Hastings series as I enjoy learning about that period of English history; my grandfather served with the Marines in the Chosin (and was wounded there) so that is a personal connection, and this 1813 series has been fun to follow. I imagine putting these together is not easy but please continue series like this. I learn so much from these.

Tres fantastique! A tremendous end to a tremendous series. The multi player and the fog of war, plus the whole campaign itself, made this 1813 video series my favourite of the year.
A fascinating period! As ever, my thanks for the all hard work and effort your club puts into these cinematic masterpieces. The hoodie budget alone would gladden the heart of Cecil deMille.

I've enjoyed all the videos this season from Hollywood gunfights, Civil War campaigns and Korean battles, to the fight at Peleliu. My favorite though has been this campaign for 1813. I like the multiple episodes, the audience participation, and the hilarious mayhem resolution that ensues when your club starts each project. You have a good time, do great work and I can't wait for the next adventure!

I would say the Spring 1813 was my favourite, and what made me find the channel. While I definitely enjoyed this episode, the first episode had more back and forth with the initial Allied aggressiveness and the manoeuvring by the French to take Berlin and rescue Davout's army. The fog of war mechanic was great, the different personalities of the generals really added to it, and the mix of hex board and miniatures was amazing and has made me think of how I can incorporate hex boards into my own games.

What a great season. Some of my very favorite fights and wars, were taken to the board here. Think if forced to choose one the Vicksburg scenario, edges out a few of the others for me. Just rewatched Spring- up to winter 1813 campaign and the end of the video, has encouraged me to go back and watch most if not the entire season. You guys are awesome and inner cooperation/fights with Mark's Game room and his top warriors are sweet to see. Excited to see what more you guys bring to the board in this season. Think a huge campaign for 7 years war may be amazing if fought as you did the 1813 part series. Huge fan of your group, videos, and most important the men doing the fighting. Props to both groups for bringing in young gamers. Thanks for your work, and your experts put your videos over the top, and have added to my understanding of many of the wars and time periods that you have dug into.

Loved the Spring 1813 episode! It was played exactly how I would imagine Napoleon at his best would have acted: Strike quickly where the opponent least expects, and concentrate your forces to ensure you have a numerical advantage on the battlefield even though you don’t have it on the campaign overall.
    Very well done!

My favorite part of the season has to be the 1813 campaign, I absolutely adore the longer multi episode campaigns and think the summer truce and the diplomacy along with it added a whole new and exciting dimension to the already fun wargames. Well, this was an amazing campaign to witness. And paraphrasing one of Hannibal's commanders "Napoleon knew how to obtain victory, but now how to capitalise on it."
This has been one of my favourite videos of this season, alongside Peleliu. I really like the historical scenarios where players can change the script just a little, positioning troops differently, and telling a different story altogether.

This campaign was insane and easily my favourite this season. The scale of it along with the strategic talks as well as the inclusion of historians in deciding how different actions affect the campaign truly elevate it. This campaign has also made me want to try my hand at Napoleonic wargaming as well.

What!? 4 seasons already...shut the front door! Awesome...so awesome :D
All the episodes in this season are very good, wouldn't expect anything less from the gang of LWTV. So which one do I choose then? Well, that's a tough one...it's either going to be Operation Compass...as I'm a WWII gamer and always enjoyed gaming in North Africa, or the Spring 1813 Campaign as I do also enjoy the Napoleonic era gaming. But, in the end...Operation Compass takes this one.
    Again, awesome stuff :D
