11-Player Napoleonic Campaign | Fall 1813

  • Our 1813 campaign event comes to a thunderous conclusion in this wargame episode. Napoleon and his marshals enter the Fall with a rebuilt army, momentum from a successful Spring, and a radical new strategy to test. Unlike the historical Napoleon, Miles has opted for for a bold, all-or-nothing offensive into Bohemia to knock the Austrians back out of the coalition. It's a move our allied players do not expect. How will they react? Can the French change history and avoid another Leipzig?
    We want to thank all of our guest historians for participating in this series: Dr. George Nafziger, Professor Alexander Mikaberidze, and Dr. Zack White. We encourage you check out Zack's exceptional podcast, The Napoleonic Wars Podcast (formerly known as The Napoleonicist) here:

      Guys - a tremendous campaign with a thoughtful framing. I love V&B as the rules set for this campaign as it allows you the ability to game the largest battles. At the same time the map board and the drama of the Allied discussions was the best. Ed's request for a cigarette made me lol on an airplane! Well done crew. Congrats Greg. What you guys do matters!

    As a solo wargamer, campaigns like this with multiple generals is something sadly missing from my games. This campaign was truly enjoyable, with the different commanders arguing over the plans. Also, the loss of support from Saxony due to the politics of Spring added a great deal to this game. This was my favorite of season 4. I would love to see a continuation of this into 1814; my personal favorite campaign of the Napoleonic Wars.

    This was extremely fun to take part in! I felt extremely bad at the time about all of Tony’s Austrians getting blown away; I was unaware just how powerful defense was. That said, I’ll take wins when I can get them!

    • @harrisonsearles1470
      @harrisonsearles1470 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      At least Tony demonstrated that the Austrians had martial virtue and that they simply weren't going to let the Corsican ogre take Prague without a fight. Both he and Dieter had very unenviable positions in this wargame. It seems that all they could do was take the best fight they could and hope for a French failure to concentrate. Sometimes the best move isn't necessarily always going to win.
      I do wonder whether the Coalition forces could have had a better result if they had all advanced rapidly on a central location after they got initial clues about Napoléon's advance across the Erzgebirge. However, that's just being an armchair general.

    • @vis532
      @vis532 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel like that was a rules issue mixed with board size one (the latter only fixable by somehow using smaller models or corps sized units), but I don't know just *how* much it was without seeing the nitty gritty behind what the rules say on defense math wise because it seems the French genuinely had some decent positions.

    Great experience! When the tabletop game is just a part of the overall story, it makes for a memorable event!! It’s honestly one of your groups main strengths. You make a historical game come alive. I love historicals but find refights to be a little bland, especially if the rules demand special abilities for those who were the original victors. These kind of history based games with variations and decisions, are the highest form of the art. Well done! Thank you for sharing! Left my comment before the end, so I say chosin reservoir was my favorite. Spring campaign was awesome, but I could feel for the marines and army trying desperately to get away! It was so emotional!

    This was great. As Carl noted, the friction amongst the players as commanders actually made this more realistic. I was especially impressed by the hauling out of the 6 x 8 table, and I totally get the problem of maneuver that Miles mentioned. Not enough sheets of plywood!

    I like the flags and the FOW, however I do think that, if I remember correctly, that there should be some kind of idea about the size of the flags as you had in the spring episode. There were spies all over the place after all. I also think that even in a tactical battle there should be some kind of operational movement. Waterloo for instance is after all a tactical battle but the Prussians add an operational element to it. I really liked the Leipzig campaign and the mix of tactical and operational feel to it. But I also have to give a shout out to the Vicksberg campaign that was very entertaining.

    I think the best video of the season was Peleliu. While I may be biased, having played the scenario at Historicon, I think the beautiful board, grand scale of it all, and scenario design, all rolled into one episode, made for a cinematic, but epic scale video.

    Little Wars TV gang, this is perhaps the most in-depth war gaming experience I have seen. When I began watching the channel around October 2022, I began to find the enthusiasm I had for historical war gaming I had when I was much younger. I have never played a Napoleonic-type game but this series has allowed me to see the possibilities. With the inclusion of the historical experts, along with adding the intrigue of diplomacy and allowing the Patreon community, which I joined, to offer strategic decisions, I felt like I was part of the gaming experience. While I know things will be different in the near future as far at the ability to deliver content; for me you have a dedicated follower. Cheers and good luck to all.

In this final part of the campaing it was cool to see the fun engangements on and off the battlefield as the allies tried to unite their forces in the limited time and as Napoleon once again surprised them with his aggresive attack! First of all, what a season!?! Thank you Greg for all you do on editing and congrats to you and your wife on a new baby boy! It’s a huge blessing and you both deserve the best. Miles and the French Team, you did me proud! I’m not even sure I could have pulled such an amazing victory off so kudos to a great ride to victory. Even though my dear friends Zack and Alex do not believe it will buy the 1st Empire much time, the what if scenario questions are flying off the charts. Greg and the Allied Team, equal thanks for keeping it intense. My favorite episode next to the 1813 Campaign is the Alamo for both the realism and the history. I thought it was really well done and it made my kids interested in doing some research which is partially what we are all about. Happy New Year and thank you for a wonderful 2023! Really like this format with the multiplayer, it adds a element of uncertainty, because you don't have full control by one player either side, my favourite moment has to be the capture of Berlin!

    Fantastic series, as usual. The finale probably takes the crown for me but what is most remarkable for me is: there is no downer in this season (nor do I remember any in the previous season). Looking forward to the next one!

    Love every episode but to be honest this whole campaign was my favorite! I love these longer campaigns and seeing what can come of them.

    Vive la France! Mr Miles was so charismatic as Napoleon, with his bold plan to attack Austrians. Great battle of Prague, only to regret, that it didn't happen in real life. The best episode of all times. Lots of fun. Thanks for that.

    I think there are other episodes that are perhaps better quality in many ways, but the passion that Ed clearly put into the Compass game and the historical videos around that really showed to me. I really have to rate that as my favourite of the season.

    The Napoleonic Campaign takes this year's cake. Have to agree with an earlier commenter on how the development of the multi-part campaigns bring the viewers along for the ride.

    What a great season. Some of my very favorite fights and wars, were taken to the board here. Think if forced to choose one the Vicksburg scenario, edges out a few of the others for me. Just rewatched Spring- up to winter 1813 campaign and the end of the video, has encouraged me to go back and watch most if not the entire season. You guys are awesome and inner cooperation/fights with Mark's Game room and his top warriors are sweet to see. Excited to see what more you guys bring to the board in this season. Think a huge campaign for 7 years war may be amazing if fought as you did the 1813 part series. Huge fan of your group, videos, and most important the men doing the fighting. Props to both groups for bringing in young gamers. Thanks for your work, and your experts put your videos over the top, and have added to my understanding of many of the wars and time periods that you have dug into.

    This 1813 campaign was absolutely stellar. A fantastic amalgamation of personal interactions, strategic maneuver, and tactical action on the tabletop.

    OH. MY. GOODNESS.
    When I saw the Spring 1813 campaign video and subsequent videos of the series, my inner self sprang to life! Thanks for providing Napoleonic era wargaming content, I remember when I watched the Austerlitz video and loved your content. Overall, this campaign has to take the cake for best episode but great work as always!

    My favorite part of the season has to be the 1813 campaign, I absolutely adore the longer multi episode campaigns and think the summer truce and the diplomacy along with it added a whole new and exciting dimension to the already fun wargames. I am very happy to be here as you go into the upcoming season!

    Just watched the whole thing, imagine Miles having the support of the Poles and being able to defend Leipzig better and maybe even Berlin. I think this was a clear French victory in regards to tactical battles and a draw in regards to the strategic situation of 1813. Prague could be used as a staging area for future French campaigns or as a bargaining chip to the half-hearted Austrians. The Emperor could send Murat to Dresden and Eugene with Saint Cyr to Leipzig to defend it. Overall a great video series, congratsulations to all of you et Vive la France 🇫🇷

    This is a great series! I also love these long campaigns, they really change choices on the battlefield and set up asymmetrical battles which is much more historical. My vote for best episode would be the three episodes of this series, if I have to vote for one episode I'm split between the first in the series and this one, but I will choose the spring campaign. Great job guys keep it up!

    The spring and fall Campaign videos were the best episodes this season concluding a really interesting what-if-scenario! A perfect season finale and in my opinion an even better outcome on the operational level for the emperor. Having the austrians nearly at the state of their defeat at Wagram in 1809 and still having dynastic ties with them would have the fortune back at Napoleon's side.

    SPRING 1813, really captured the scale of the campaign and its always great seeing the internal politics of multiplayer battles. Although covering campaigns that don't often get covered is always encouraged. I found Chosin very informative. Thanks again for some great content gentlemen!

    Love this little series, inspired me to setup and run a similar style campaign with my friends digitally over the Russian Invasion. I will say the clashing of ideas on strategy and the interesting and meaningful integration of fan ideas from patreon really made this one the most fun to watch series this season! Would love more camera time of gameplay to show off more of the games in future videos!

    I absolutely love the inclusion of input from historians in this series. Ots one thing to play these games and dream about the effect your actions would have on history, it's another to have actual historians contextualize your games. The peace talks rocked!! Love your guy's videos and hope to see another multi-part campaign soon!

    While I'm a big fan of all your content, if I could only pick one, it would be the Alamo episode. It inspired me to dust off my 28mm Alamo collection and give the Alamo Ruleser a try. But thanks for everything you make and share - it's keeping my inspiration level up!
