    I had an SRT392 in Canada. The $100/week in gas can be an issue for some people, also the factory tires that melt off in a summer or two can be expensive to replace. This is why I think you always see a bunch of them for sale when they are only a year or two old, people didn't consider the running costs of them. Don't forget 20" snow tires and wheels if you are going to run it in the winter, that'll run you at least another $2000+. And I haven't even talked about mods yet. They are much more expensive to run and maintain than a normal car.

    • @MaliciousSRT
      @MaliciousSRT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @JamesC. Taylor True the gas mileage isn't bad when cruising down the highway in 4cyl mode but the problem is when you get off the highway and goose it, you just lost everything you saved lol And yes, in theory they are no more to run than some V6 German car that requires premium and probably gets worse mileage, at least that's what I tell myself. (Shopping for a new Camaro SS right now to be used as a 365 daily)

    I have a 2015 Charger Scat Pack, so far I only spent 2 tire sets $990 each using Continental Sports 255/45/20 and $2100 (labor included) on the brakes (Using Single piece MOPAR rotors and Brembo pads), keep in mind if you want the multi piece rotors are about $700 the pair. I highly recommend you get the parts yourself specially on the holidays (you will get good discounts)
    As of now I have about 64K miles and use it as a daily driver, MPG AVG wise I get from 18-21 on a 50 mile drive to work (Traffic included), other ppl I've seen they get 23-24
    So far the Engine runs great although I just started noticing some kind of knocking this past week but it goes away as the engine runs, I will get it checked on my next oil service as I found some older 5.7 Hemi's have issue with the Camshafts, I haven't heard this applies on the 6.4L Hemi

Finally read up about the friction modifier in the rear end not being added from factory. Just changed mine and man its night and day! Sounds great now. Then definitely don't get the 6 pistons. Even going with aftermarket powerstop products it's still like 800 alone just for pads and rotors. The 4 pistons are much cheaper, as they are one piece rotors. The 6 pistons have 2 piece rotors. If you go with official brembo products to replace, it's WELL over 1000 for 6 pistons, not including any labor.

    I got a 2012 300 srt8 with 117,000 miles. The first problem and only problem I had was failed lifters. If u don't catch it early, it leads to the lifters shredding the cam! I'm now a victim of this issue which is huge because Chyrsler and Dodge is well aware of this issue after talking to techs that work on and build hemi motors. Yet they are not doing anything or extending warranties on it or recalling for these lifters. I just found out it is common with the 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 motor. I won't know if I have more damage other than the lifters and cam until next week after my 6.4 is pulled from the car a opened up.

Only thing I knew for sure before having the motor opened up was my lifter turned and was shredding my camshaft up. Didn't learned all the other damaged stuff until afterwards. Took a 16 R/T out and I was pretty impressed with that 8 spd transmission. Problem was the price of the 15+ R/T and especially the 6.4 Scat or SRT8 versions. I found a 2014 SRT8 Challenger with the 5 spd and the car was almost $10K cheaper than the cheapest Scat I could find, a 2015 only 1 year newer. I ended up going 2014 SRT8. The 5 spd looked alot better on paper at that difference of price. I didn't want the 6 spd as I drive a 15 spd manual all day for work and rowing just doesn't hold the same attraction to me anymore.
    I know the 6.4 isn't bullet proof though. A 2014 charger SRT8 I considered had a brand new motor put in at 145000 km. Apparently it dropped a valve. Passed on that one.
    I think alot of your commenters are not Canadian and don't realize how badly we get screwed on parts up here. I'll be looking for those low dust aftermarket brake pads from the U.S when it's time. There's no way they could be as much as stock costs up here.

Obviously I knew something was up by the 3rd time I had to fill with more coolant, I found the coolant which is supposed to be purple, looked like ‘chocolate milk’ which if you didn’t know means that oil is in the coolant. Most probable cause was that the head gasket was just about gone. No crap, just replace them yourself, they are cheap and super easy to install! BTW, hemi knock has nothing to do with the engine internals, its just the manifold. As the vehicle ages the different metals and heat expansion can cause one or more of the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold on to break, and then when the engine is cold it'll cause rattling or a ticking sound since the exhaust manifold is no longer perfectly bolted down. It doesn't really hurt anything, but is an annoying "feature" of the 5.7 liter Hemi.

More reliable, cheaper to build and make your own. So far, Borla exhaust, throttle body and intake. Headers , Hotchkis suspension and Hellcat wheels next.Plenty fast, and cheap to maintain sleeper. Also fully loaded leather, heated steer wheel, cool and heated seats.

    the Hemi tick or a LS tick is the valvetrain thats how most overhead camshaft engines sound like a sewing machine. BUT when it's ticking loud it has nothing to do with overheating, its the MDS/DOD system killing these engines prematurely from lifter failure look at all the poor 6.2,6.0 LS engines and 5.7 and 6.4 hemis dying just for the sake of fuel effecciancy.

    The 5.7 and the 6.4 is highly reliable because its naturally aspirated engine, those hellcats with those superchargers those are the ones to look out for, because if you have any issues with the Supercharger it will effect the performance of the rest of the engine. These engines are work horses and, look at the old Chevy Caprices and Crown Victorias of the past, those engines easily broke 300,000 and 400,000 miles as taxi cabs and cop cars, the Lincoln Town cars as well for limousine company's all naturally aspirated engines. Another thing people use high test V power gasoline, if you have a 5.7 or a 6.4 muscle car engine Hemi. Cheap gasoline, will overtime will prematurely kill a naturally aspirated engine, carbon tends to build with these engines over time if you use cheap gas, gas that doesn't have a high octane rating you should not drive one. Stick to a dodge Dart or a Dodge minivan or something. The Hellcat you probably can get 200k or 300k or more without modification or drag racing everyday.
