I contacted the Lacock Abbey museum's team asking this same question when I was working to recreate one of his mousetrap cameras. They told me that he had used custom lenses he made himself using glass from microscope and telescope lenses he had around his property and put into brass bodies. Later, when the daguerreotype became widespread, he used daguerreotype cameras and adapted them for his salt paper photographs.
This documentary is inaccurate since the first photography in the world was taken by Nicéphore Niépce, whose researches were taken on after his death by Daguerre, who never mentioned his predecessor's name. This was proven thanks to a member of the Royal Society, Francis Bauer, who met Niépce in 1827 when he tried to present his discovery to the Royal Society. Bauer kept proofs of Niepce's work. The first photography by Niépce is now exhibited in the Harry Ransom Center in Texas.
A distant ancestor of mine so doubly fascinating. Thank you.
Hmm 'the first photographs' think millions of French citizens will disagree. They did it in 1826...
Nice animation!
this is so cool!! well done
Interesting . What " lenses " did Talbot use in his early endeavors ?
