Just to add to Joe’s awesome work we are trying to get all of the new/restored trim, grills, etc ready for when Joe is done he can install. Should be a different car when he is done. It’s going to be 1968 all over again.
Hope so my brother......either leave the dings as patina, or do it rite......glossy paint over wavy ground looks worse.....good luck, its in GOOD hands!!
Making this fish slippery wet again, knocking all the barnacles off! I Love that the scraping technique is keeping all of that clearcoat out of your lungs and the atmosphere. It also allows you to see all the imperfections as the layers come off, such an organic hands on approach, bitchin! ❤
Hey Joe, I'm glad you are making videos on this. My 65' Coronet 500 has black laquer over the original gold, and that paint is more than 40 years old.. I bet it was really nice once, but the last owners buddy too a razor blade to a couple areas and took it down to the original color. My buddy, (last owner), was going to buff the black back to life, well, until he saw his boss scraped a few spots!! I've had it 19 years and have done zero with the paint. (Not much with the rest of the car either)! :( Anyway, I now see what his boss was saying about the black coming off without my damage to what is under it. Also, I would love to hear your feelings on that drum sander.... Maybe after you have put it to some serious work. It looks like a serious time saver... Keep killin it, buddy!!!
Joe - Fantastic job!! Makes me feel so much better that you are saving the original skin on my car. That flapper wheel tool looks like it works great on the washboard quarters. Looks like some things were patched up before my dad bought it back in 1986. Keep up the fantastic work!
Nobody can say a damned negative thing about that job. That turned out better than the vast majority of the scraper jobs I was a part of back in the 90s and that was quite literally my entire job. Day in and day out, scrape scrape scrape. It was pretty painful to watch in a ptsd sort of way but the results are amazeballs brother! Honestly, I think you have to be the luckiest guy in the autobody world getting that to scrape so easy. Can't wait for the dent repairs!
Thanks buddy! I appreciate the support and your explanation Of the process. Got some dent repair video ready. It’s one of many. I will try to get some close ups for the ones to follow that.
@@JustMoparJoe Yeah I don't know paint for crap but I sure can prep a car for it, haha! I'm not so good with dent repairs, even after 30 some odd years. I love watching other peoples methods so I can see if I still do it right :)

Snap on has a very good short handle blade holder l was a dealership painter gm as per the maytag notion that looks like a 30 blade job never seen that 60 grit drum looks like a bare metal job for paint
Yes Sir, anything's better than sanding. I used to be a drywall finisher, and, well, that was about 12 years ago, and, they cannot pay me enough to do that ever again, period....
@@JustMoparJoe Well I did see they've got this one thing called "bondo honey" and it REALLY makes bondo spread nice and easy and evenly, just about like when you thin drywall mudd with water to make it spread easier. I did a lot of hanging the sh$!#: too.... Lol
You sure like doing this the hard way. We paint stripper the cars and it's so much faster. I have a special product I treat rust with too and it beats anything on the market and few know about it. Messy but effective. No more rust comes with a price lol. I can't believe how crappy that clear is man. Wow a razor blade and it curles up in sheets. Dam. PPG doesn't do that lol. Wonder what brand that was. My red d100 is like that too. That's getting stripped and redone. Progress is a good thing. ❤
Total newb here: I dont see many people scrape paint off like this. Why scrape when you can grind or media blast? Cost? More control? I heard your comment on not having dust everywhere
In my experience its a combination of all of those plus quality. Getting rid of the harder outer most shell of paint first makes blocking a breeze. Think of it like sanding on two unlike surfaces, hard and soft. Which one will sand off, grind, or media blast faster? You will be at bare metal on one spot and still on the hard first layer 1/2" away and then get bumps and thin metal spots, etc.
CJM has it! Once this is scraped off, the under layers fly off with a simple DA sander and 80 grit. You don’t really want to grind on the panels because they will thin out and warp. The scraping probably sped this whole job up 2x, and will will ensure now that we go to bare metal.
Hey Joe, Tim here.....WHO PAINTS OVER MAJOR DINGS AND DENTS???....did Earl Shibbe or Macco do it???.....i mean, get it reasonably straight first......i mean, i've seen bad ideas, but this one is up there on body work/prep awfulness.....enjoyed it nonetheless......you do good shi% my brother, and i bet it'll look quite snazzy when ur done!!.....just had to comment, cuz they just painted over awful dents/dings......like not even a skim coat......WOW!!
I just saw another video of a guy using a product citric drip he put it on with a paint brush covered the area with plastic and 24 hours later he just pressured washed the whole car and it took everything off.According to him it doesn't smell and it is safe.

Thanks Steve! I actually used this on the old blue truck that I painted. It did a great job of stripping the hood and all the rust that it had in it.

Well done. Looks like the more layers the easier it is. Maybe maybe not.
Thanks Stan. I’ve got a good process going now. Once the stripping is done, the rest should go quick

Joe , sand one edge of the blade, it won’t dig hardly at all!
